I lost my Naturalization Certificate and was told to do the FOIA request to get the number of the naturalization certificate. They came back saying there isn't any record on me. I complained saying that there must be since I have a valid American Passport which I could not get unless I born in US or had been issued a naturalization certificate. Since I wasn't born in the US, therefore I there has to be a Naturalization Certificate for me in some us institution. They did the second search and again there's no record. The refered me to the USCIS which refered me to them. What now? Can't get my wife's immigration process started since I don't have the Naturalization Certificate.

@@JesusMartinez How can this be an error on my part? The only way it could be an error on my part is if I am imagining that I ever became a citizen, that I am imagining that I have a valid passport. I am just trying to show you that there is no way I could be wrong unless I am crazy, in which case we are not having this conversation and this is all in my mind. I would think showing a copy of a valid American Passport would be enough proof that indeed I did become a citizen at some point back in my life. It is more likely that they lost or deleted my file, in which case nobody will be able to do anything.

Maybe. USCIS redacts information, so it won't be known until it is requested

If you previously got a work permit, yes. It should show up in the FOIA.
