  • Here is our review on the Premier 1 Solarstop 80 fence charger. This was a big step up from our older charger and we were super happy with the quality of this charger. We are in no way associated with premier 1, just happy customers. Hopefully this review is helpful to you, and thank you for watching!

Bought a Chicken Caravan 30 got it built, ordered 25 assorted layer chickens from McMurray Hatchery. Been looking for poultry fencing watched the videos on the Premier site. But always like to get a few 3rd party recommendations. Excellent job with your review. Greatly appreciated! Going to buy PoultryNet® Plus 12/48/3 Starter Kit. Actually, may get two kits so I can easily move chickens around property.

I feel the same way and saw there wasn’t any reviews on this charger. It’s still working great a few months in now as well. Love that it is solar and still hits hard even when a little grass is touching the bottom strands of the fence.

Thank you so much for the detailed instructions on how to attach the charger to the fence and how to use the energizer. Premier1 clearly thinks I know more than I do! I was lost on these steps until I watched this video. Now my fence is energized! I do have a question for you. My backyard has trees, and I’ve seen raccoons. They climb trees and a Google search told me that raccoons can jump up to 5 feet far when jumping from the ground and up to 10 feet when jumping from a height. I placed my fences at least 6 feet away from trees, would that be far enough to prevent raccoons from getting inside the fence?

Not sure on that. I would think that a raccoon isn’t going to jump clean out of a tree to the ground or it’d injure itself. They are climbers but the fat boys I see running around near our farm don’t look like they’d handle a fall from a tree too well.😂
I’m glad the video was helpful and thanks for watching!

The longer we’ve had it the more we love it. Even in tall grass it’s still keeping great voltage! It’s made moving the chickens and keeping them safe so much simpler. Hope you love it as much as we do!

Having trouble finding info on the LED lights on the back. I had a green then yellow flash which should be normal state. Then yellow stopped flashing and i was still getting a 5.7 on the meter. I know i have some grass to move out of the way

      I was on energy saver

I see it just stopped collecting sunlight as it was near dusk. I saw somewhere else the yellow light was an indicator that it was providing voltage to the fence

Glad you were able to get it figured out. Yes the yellow light is the solar panel indicator that it’s getting a charge. The green is the shock indicator. Both energy saver mode and non have the capability of knocking over 8k volts so if it’s less than that it’s due to grass touching. But anything over 4 will be an effective deterrent against predators.

Lol. Guess what I was shopping for online today!?! And here you are reviewing one! Need this for my chicken yard. Can this set up be used with a single strand aluminum wire? Or would it be too strong? Coyotes dogs coons opossums etc.
    As always, many thanks.

Should work on any electric fence set up as long as it’s not too big of an area. But this can handle quite a bit of fence. It can work for up to 5 164ft rolls of netting that have 5 strands of wire a piece. As far as it being too strong, some of my chickens have taken a hit from it and been fine. Since it’s a quick pulse and not constant any animal that touches it will most likely get that quick zap and run.

I’ve also grabbed a hold of the fence with my old charger that hit at 8k volts and it wasn’t fun but I survived just fine.😅
