“Everyone has a family member who knows someone in the medical field “ unfortunately that’s not the case for me I am hoping to be a first generation doctor as well as first gen graduate. But I love the advice and will ask my primary care physician.
Yes! Mrs. Celini is back! This was wonderful advice. I’m still trying to decide between med school and PA school, but they both sound like fulfilling careers. I am also volunteering at a level one trauma center. Except I’m a little bit of a non traditional student in that I work full time at a university and I am a part time dual masters student. I hope this helps my admission
I volunteered in a level 1 trauma center when I was in high school (I am premed) and it was crazy!! Definitely opened my eyes to sides of medicine I hadn't seen before. One of my jobs was to escort the bodies to the morgue and thats what I ended up writing my college essay about
Hi, I am currently in the didactic year of the St Johns PA program! I just wanted to let Andriana know that SJU is no longer going to offer the 4-year program highschool entrance program by 2020. The cohort under me is the last 4-year program EVER! By 2020, it will be a 3-year masters program. I just thought you would like to know!! Also, I love your channel and when you guys do videos together!!
Awesome video! I'm a premed student right now and I've volunteered in the Labor and Delivery, Trauma I Emergency, and in a Cord Blood Lab department of hospitals. This summer I'm switching it up to conduct research but next semester I'm excited to get an internship at a local hospital as well. Always inspiring to hear from doctors and other medical professionals who have made it!
Great advice, from both of you. I don't have any shadowing experience, but I've spent the last year working with a neurosurgeon on writing a retrospective review. So I hope this will strengthen my med-school application.
1st year PA student here and curious if there are many job opportunities in radiology/interventional radiology for PAs. Huge fan of your videos, keep them coming!
Thanks for your content. would love to hear about your experiences as a couple both working in the medical field. Difficulties, challenges, good and the bad. Do you have kids? Raising a family while in med school and after.
Thank you Dr.Cellini. It is not as easy to 'just' ASK. I am a Nigerian schooling in the Philippines, just walking up to a physician asking to shadow is not really simple. Thanks for the tips
I’m a senior in high school and I’m starting to volunteer at Columbia Presbyterian this week. Very excited! I’m going to college in a couple of months as pre-med. I’m hoping volunteering at the hospital in oncology will help me REALLY realize if medicine is for me.
Okay so just subscribed (thanks for the advice)! I have just finished my first year in college as a pre-med student, and I’ve officially changed to pre-PA so this video has helped me a ton!
Even though I am a BSN student, I just love your videos! I get so much out of them, especially this one. I am going to use your advice and see if I can shadow nurses. Thank you so much!! And yes, more video time with your wife!!
I’m so thankful for the helpful tips and advice for pre med and pre PA students! For Andrianna, what science/math classes did you take in high school in order for you to attend St. John’s university and get your PA “degree” in 4 years?
Hey Dr.Cellini! So glad i found your channel! You are such an inspiration and give great videos! I do have a question though, is it possible to work a part time job while in medical school?
I feel pretty lucky to be a paramedic before deciding to go to PA school. Working on bachelors now, but by the end of the bachelors program I should have over 20,000 patient care hours, and we get to encounter tons of ER physicians, some of the most renowned cardiologists and that opens up tons of opportunities to get great letters of recommendations. But on top of the patient care hours and shadowing hours, do you have any further tips for building a strong application for PA?
If you can talk about this in your next video, this would be great! I'm a Pre-med student, and I want to volunteer at my local hospital. Do I need any experience with anything, or should I just go for it?
so 2 questions for both, i guess! i am currently trying to decide if i want to pursue my pa license or go to medical school (i have a very "unique" set of circumstances that have led me to want to pursue medicine). i am not having any trouble finding shadowing experience. i have yet to volunteer, but i am quite sure i could get some volunteer experience in with some of the "best of the best" drs as well. 1. if you get your phlebotomy certification, does that count as "experience" or is that looked down upon because it would most likely be a paid job? 2. does shadowing any dental specialists count or is that just thrown out the window because "that's for dentists!" i ask because i find endodontics fascinating but i am not really interested in the rest of dentistry; but i wonder if i were to shadow an endodontist if that would help me just insofar as "oh, she tried that and it wasn't for her" or maybe because it would change my mind? i hope what i am trying to say there is getting through! thanks much!! extra question i just thought of: 3. what is the difference in liability between doctors and PAs; how does malpractice insurance work for PAs and is there a difference in which has more liability if something is "missed" or something goes awry with a patient, &c. thanks again!
Wow I’m so interested in shadowing but considering this pandemic that’s happening right now and I feel as though this is going to affect my application that I am considering In the bs/md program ;(
Could your wife make a video about what undergrad majors are good for pre-PA, I’m in high school and idk if I should apply as a Bio major because there’s no guarantee I’ll get into PA school.
When do you generally shadow? I’m wanting to enroll this spring and I was wanting to get as much information as possible. Can you shadow in your first year as pre med?
Any suggestions for current covid climate ways to get shadowing hours? Not everyone has family or friends in healthcare. I’m first generation to finish college and hospitals still aren’t allowing students in.
? I’ve been looking at Pre-Physician Assistant programs that consist of 5 years. Which one did your wife go to and could she talk a little bit of that process? I know that most times ppl first complete there undergrads at a 4 year then try to get into a 2 year PA program.
Dr. Cellini, on Thursday, May 30th, I’m having a (not sure exactly how its professionally worded) “guided ultrasound biopsy” of my right breast. I understand they are extremely common; however; however the location of the lump is not ideal and I have a feeling it is going to hurt. It right by the nipple. Do you have any tips or tricks for me? Thanks! Love your channel!! 💙
Is it beneficial to shadow or intern different specialties? I know these are requirements for my pa school for when you get to the actual school, but doing it pre-pa looks really great on applications as well. For example, I wanted to shadow at an addiction medicine inpatient center, a mental health case manager (that’s what my cousin does), and family medicine. I had some other specialties in mind as well like derm and Asian medicine. All for a couple months each. In my university they start introducing the thought of interning your freshman year. So I have 4 years as a whole to build up my experiences.
Thanks for all you do dr. Cellini. no offense, but your story shadowing neurosurgeons sounds way more intense than your wife's PA story. It must be so difficult to become a doctor and having to do all these pre-medical stuff. but thanks for both of you taking your time to help the communities!!!!
hey Im 23 years old just became a emt, i dont have a degree in anything but I really want to go to college getting a four year degree while working as an emt so i can then try going to become a Doctor or PA. i have no idea which one yet. I know im probably starting late by not having not even college experience, but its something im passionate about. im just looking for any advice and any tips from anyoneis much appreciated. I went from being a barber and going to hair school, to wanting something more and being able to help patients and make a difference in peoples lives as a doctor or pa. i appreciate any advice and tips thank you.
What if people don't want to tell you where they are getting volunteer/shadowing opportunities since they are afraid that you might take away their opportunity?
Will going to community college hinder the chance of getting into PA school? I read somewhere that medical schools/PA schools and all that sort will not accept cc (community college) credits.
Lovely Modesty when you transfer to a 4 year university your credits transfer with you I would y reccomend taking any of your math and science pre requisites at a cc tho, if they even offer them
Wow... 6:04-6:30 talk about out-of-touch :( not everyone has that. Some of us don't even have remote exposure/connections to people in these fields. Otherwise great advice! Thanks for this video.
Is it good enough to shadow a PA to get into PA school? Or do you have to have actual direct patient care experience? My undergraduate is in business. I have no medical experience but I want to apply to a PA program next year
Depends on the program you’re applying for. If you go to the university website they usually have prerequisites page that outlines what you need to do before even being considered.
Is it rude to ask a fellow doctor of the doctor you are shadowing, for a long period of time, to shadow them for a few days or so. They work in the same hospital but they don't really work together at all. I hope that makes sense?
“Everyone has a family member who knows someone in the medical field “ unfortunately that’s not the case for me I am hoping to be a first generation doctor as well as first gen graduate. But I love the advice and will ask my primary care physician.
QUEEN
That’s not the case for a lot of people. I’m first generation to even finish college.
I know Im quite randomly asking but does anybody know a good website to stream new series online?
@Braylen Abraham flixportal :D
@Vivaan Avery thanks, I went there and it seems to work =) I appreciate it !
Yes! Mrs. Celini is back! This was wonderful advice. I’m still trying to decide between med school and PA school, but they both sound like fulfilling careers. OMG you two are adorable! Of course we’d love to see more of your wife!

She should make a TH-cam channel! I would love to hear more about the PA profession!!
Thanks Dr Cellini! I was torn between PA and MD. Just got into a military program to route me to Physician!!! 😃 super excited to start this summer!
Volunteering in a level 1 trauma center as a premed must’ve been intense
I volunteered in a level 1 trauma center when I was in high school (I am premed) and it was crazy!! Definitely opened my eyes to sides of medicine I hadn't seen before. One of my jobs was to escort the bodies to the morgue and thats what I ended up writing my college essay about
julianatoli15 That sounds like a very deep and meaningful experience, both professionally and personally. Good luck on your med journey!
julianatoli15 what college do u go to
@@dance31115 what was the job called?
@@mimss2633 By "job," I meant task. I was a volunteer for the school and was just labeled as a volunteer but they always gave me that task
THANK YOU FOR THIS. As a high school senior I really appreciate this video.

There are definitely opportunities out there, but I doubt they are as prevalent as other jobs....definitely there though
Thanks for your content. would love to hear about your experiences as a couple both working in the medical field. Difficulties, challenges, good and the bad. Do you have kids? Raising a family while in med school and after.

Will you talk more about what it is like to be married as a PA and MD, please?
You guys are so cute! thanks for the tips. I am a per PA student and found volunteering in a hospital to be very helpful.
it is the best!
Hey Dr.Cellini! So glad i found your channel! You are such an inspiration and give great videos! I do have a question though, is it possible to work a part time job while in medical school?

“Back with popular demand” I don’t know why I laughed too much at that
Is it too early to shadow a neurosurgeon if I'm going to be a freshman in the fall of this year majoring in neuroscience premed track?
I don’t think so. It’s good to get in there and get some shadowing under your belt
If you are going to college in a different state, then would you still recommend talking to your primary physician back home? (NY to Cali)
And omg the bloopers were so cute!!!

How many shadowing hours should you have fro pre-med when you apply?
Sadly, I looked it up and St.Johns Univ, doesn't do the program your wife did.
Thankfully I have a cousin thats a general surgeon.
