Still the best and most underrated singer, songwriter of his generation. Love his no bullshit approach. Love the end... 'See Ya'... Ha ha brilliant. RIP Mark.
Mark's solo material is nothing short of stellar, just a masterclass of musicianship and song form. I just wish the world would have appreciated and recognized him and his discography while he was still here with us.
Sad to hear of his death from previous comments. I only discovered him about 7 yrs ago-went right into a heavy lean on his great work for quite a long stretch. (this band is fantastic)
@@browiththecoolslidyface9709He already had a baritone voice back in the day. He’s said in plenty of interviews that the songs written by (I think) Gary Lee Conner forced him to sing in too high of a register. I think it was because GLC didn’t know how to change the key of the songs.
Jeff Fielder is my favourite of Marks guitar players and his tone and feel on No Bells on Sunday is just beautiful imo. His playing really flows. And the harmonics between his guitar and the bass
Totally amazing artist... he played in my home town of Falmouth and don't think most people had heard of him before this gig but he was so good... love to have a recording of this set..😎
And all of a sudden it was 10 degrees colder and everybody put on their coat + beanie and refused to to talk to anyone else for the remainder of the festival. Nice!

Yep. See him all over town. Last time I saw him was at the NW Flower & Garden show, playing folky stuff for a crowd of about 10 people, lol. He's amazing, and plays every genre imaginable. #1 in Seattle for sure...

the man who sings better than he speaks...great songwriter...killer motherfucker...the music can get cool , high. sad ,nostalgic mundane and deep..at the same time.-thanks
The lead guitarist is fantastic he makes this boring music acceptable. This is indie folk rock for dinosaurs like me, based on 90's underground music....Lanegan music speaks about the worse side of life. For this reason he is so underrated
I don't think he has a strong voice. On some of Mark's live stuff he just sounds weak, like he has a hard time controlling pitch and tone. Even if he did had a big influence and was part of the who's who back then it doesn't mean he's a good singer. But I LOVE the guys music - it resonates with me on so many levels. He's voice does add some flavor to his songs but it's not the reason I love his work. I still don't get why he's not up there with the heavy's - famous I mean. Then again, he has some humility that might be the reason he never (I think) tried to claw his way to the top.
Well, it's evident that he's lost a bit of range from his days with the Screaming Trees. Not a whole lot, because he never had much, but some of the dynamics that made him known as the best voice in Washington during the grunge movement have been blown from alcohol, smoking (various things), and age. His deep raspy voice was always a favorite for that genre, and even with the reduced range it makes a very suitable blues voice in the vein of Johnny Cash now. Personally, I still find it very pleasing, even if a bit monotone. As for his success - well... as you allude to, he was a big deal locally in the Seattle scene. Made some success nationally, and even internationally with the Screaming Trees. I don't think he dealt with it very well. At the heart of grunge was kind a philosophy of being unsuccessful screw-ups, and Lanegan played that part. He was almost always on some drug or another while performing, and occasionally couldn't even perform. There's also the fact that his friends Lane Staley and Kurt Cobain died from overdose and suicide respectively. Despite Lanegan's lower profile nationally, these guys looked up to Lanegan, as he was not only a friend, but a bit of a mentor, and one of the major epicenters that created the genre. I can't know Marks feelings on the subject, but I would at least be wondering what actions of mine contributed to that. Also, I'd be looking at that and thinking - "shit... is that what success and fame brings? I damn near died myself. I'll pass"

RIP Mark. This was the first set of the weekend I saw at Glastonbury 2017, my first Glasto. So stoked I got to see him.
