    Do you check your chain for wear? I always left it to the mech at service intervals and never really understood how it was checked. What maintenance mistakes have you made, what advice do you have for people just starting out? Drop a comment below.

    Interesting. Please note however a new chain and worn sprocket will not manifest itself firstly on the large sprocket. It will appear with few exceptions on the smallest, (unless that never gets used)
    Makes sense too as chain rings (very large comparatively) are the last of all to skip and chain suck when entire transmission is totally worn.

    How many kms does a chain generally last? I have a KMC X9.

    • @TheIndianCyclist
      @TheIndianCyclist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you Nitish - it really depends on how well you take care of your chain, and the conditions your ride in. I would say ... anywhere between 3 and 6000 km on average (should be the case for your X9 as well). If you wax your chain and take good care of it (stay tuned for an upcoming video on this) - they claim it could last for up to 15000 km!

      @@TheIndianCyclist oof! That's a lot. Waiting for that.
      I think 9-speed chains will be more durable as they are thicker and heavier. And yes, variable factors also count. Thanks

    Chain wear is not bad for me looks like but it is getting pretty rusty in spots. Do I use sandpaper to get it out? or just a good wipe down with oil?

    • @TheIndianCyclist
      @TheIndianCyclist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If not too rusty, maybe you could give it a rub down after a degreaser soak and see what comes off. I must say I don't have experience with rust removal myself, but wire brushes / steel wool seem to be recommended online.
