  • A very brief video clip from The Blizzard of 1978. Outside our family home in West Roxbury, Massachusetts. West Roxbury is a section of Boston that borders Dedham, Needham, and Brookline.
My two younger brothers, my mother, my dad, and myself are shoveling out the mountains of snow on our street. A block behind our house was Route 1 at the Boston/Dedham line.
The movie clips were shot by my dad (and mother) with an 8MM movie camera.

This is such a nostalgic bit of footage, not just the music and the old fashioned non climate chnage winters we had, just seeing the kids get stuck in to helping and playing with each other. Made me really smile

West Roxbury also borders ROSLINDALE. Part of West Roxbury used to be in Roslindale- Sunset Hill.

Digging out from that blizzard took several days, and as I remember, it was quite cold in the days that followed. My father and I did all the digging. We had an 8 foot snow drift in front of the house. It's a find memory now, but was a huge pain in the butt at the time. School was closed for a week. I'm all set if it happens again. I bought a condo, no longer own a snow shovel. I do still love snow, just not a ridiculous amount like that.

I remember...I lived in Floyds Knobs, Indiana and we were out of school so long that we ended up having school on tv. That was the best winter ever.

So you lived near Fontaine's eh? That cheicken sign was a hoot. I grew up in Dedham. Lived in Rosi and JP, and I went to high school at CM in Westie. I was seven and a half in '78. I've been in your old neighborhood oh...about ten million times.

New England area? Boston? I ask because a lot of comments are from the mid-west, not Massachusetts.

My dad lost a boot in that blizzard in Indianapolis and he found it like 3 months later

The one that hit the Ohio valley along with Indian and Michigan was Jan 25-27, 1978. Just a few weeks earlier

Who cares about 6 days after? Hate the choice of music

Aren't we the positive one? Mute the sound if you don't like the music.
