Thats my hood. I grew up off Webster str on a dead end Rust str. That was my families paper route area. That brings back good memories. I was in high school and had a part time job with Massport where my father worked. Minimum wage was 2.35 hr and my part time job paid 7.50 hr. I went into the airport after every snow storm to remove snow and that was one of them. Back then field maintenance did the runways and all roads. The parking department where i worked did all walkways and travel ways that people walked. No snow blowers just hand shovels by people. We did all stairways at parking garages all parking lot meters and walkways. I think i was there 5 days, sleeping in terminals eating plainfood and just working. Great time. Even though that was a disaster people came together

I grew up born in Lynn 1951 lived there to 1976 moved to Texas soo missed the 1978 blizzard but I do remember there was another great Blizzard about 1962 Lived n a 3rd story apt on Mass. Ave and the snow drifted covering almost all the first floor.WE had to dig our way out of the house after the snow stopped. Snow banks after plowing were almost 8 ft high . In Texas a few inches of snow stops everything LOL

I was 17 and lived right on the ocean in Weymouth, we got 3 ft in the living room, we had evacuate ourselves, trudging through the slush and snow uphill 1/2 mile away to grandpa's house, luckily we all were fine, that whole week the community came together like nothing is ever seen, helping and chatting with neighbors in a way that's never happened again, it's strange how during difficult times we can come together and be so good to one another. I actually love snow storms because of that and after, it's so beautiful, and quiet, pristine white. Obviously people are displaced like we were, and some deaths which is sad. I've never felt so much love between my fellow humans as that week in 1978. 🙏🇺🇸

I lived north shore Long Island, in a two story house. The snow drift covered the lower level. We climbed outside, to see everything, through the second floor windows. It was beautiful but we had no power for several days.

I was there in Lynn in ‘78. Lucky I suppose. I’d been laid off from my job in Boston two weeks before and didn’t have the commute into Boston to worry about. I lived on a bus route and (once they were running agin) could get a bus to downtown Lynn to pick up my unemployment check. And our neighbor got a brand new snow blower that Christmas and let me use it. Oh, and my car was warm and dry in a garage the whole time.
