This album is incredible. Mixing modern metal with pop and RNB is such a good mix. They're a great bridge band to get mainstream into heavier music and vice versa
I have listened to this album pretty much non stop since it’s release. And this song might be my favorite. And their blend of different genres is so perfect. I think the reason it works is the change isn’t so harsh and abrupt. It’s like they prepare you for that change. It’s just so good.
Sleep Token's first tour in the US was opening for Issues, fun fact. The draw comes for me comes from the incredible lore that has extended across the course of more than three full albums, the perfect genre-mixing, the musicality, the lyricism - they have it all. I think you'd dig Ascensionism by Sleep Token.
To answer your question on doing vocal layers live, they bring a female trio choir on stage, all masked and in the far back doing just that. Complements Vessel very well.
this song ties it up for me. seems the story end here. vessel joined with and defeated sleep in Ascensionism. the songs in between that and this to me seem to be vessel getting used to him and sleep as a singular being and having memories and not recognizing himself. 1st verse and chorus is vessel showing desire to get to eden. : "i will travel far beyond the path of reason" to end it 2nd verse and chorus represent vessel "waking up" in eden (like waking up after being jacked i to the matrix) : "Well, yeah, I spit blood when I wake up Sink porcelain stained, choking up brain matter and make-up Just two days since the mainframe went down and I'm still messed up" like waking up in the actual place eden surrounded by gods the 3rd verse i think is vessel trying to figure out how to actually end the cycle now that he is awake in the actual eden: "And I don't know what's got its teeth in me But I'm about to bite back in anger No amount of self-sought fury Will bring back the glory of innocence" no amount of continuing to hurt myself will take me back to innocence the 3rd chorus to me seems like vessel knows he has to destroy eden and eventually does (the angry part whilst thinking he wants to go back to the beginning (eden) which is expressed in euclid (as if waking from an actual dream to where everything began WITHOUT the ties to sleep) the whole thing to me gives like digital/electronic vibes. like the story of the video game chrono cross where the main character finds out theres a super computer program essentially controlling and manipulating the whole world😬
I personally love MUSIC, i don't care where/ who it comes from... that's why i think ST is getting so much approval from the masses. I hope one day musicians like this can just make MUSIC. Sorry people kinda suck. It cracks me up when people watch reactions then get mad when the reactor doesn't agree...
Understanding and enjoying are two different things, i dont understand a lot about music and i sure as hell dont understand "we love you", but u enjoy it People meed to comperhend that Not everyone have the same brain/ears😂
I think the reason they’re blowing up could be summed up by the fact that it sounds different in a good way overall. People who are metal fans can show their friends this song and there might be some common ground and bonding that there wasn’t before. The genre blending is “done right” I guess. Showed this to my fiancé who is definitely not a metal head and she instantly added it to her phone. When I asked why she said “It’s just so cool, I didn’t know heavy guitar and beats could go so well together.” 😂 I think its good for the scene if more people like my fiancé give music like this a chance (and they are). We’ll start getting new sounds and themes and fans. EDIT: New Sleep Token fan, wouldn’t say I’m a worshipper lol
I think sleep token is one of those bands that are a good gateway for non metal listeners to appreciate the genre more, but they're definitely not for me. From my understanding this band got super popular because there was a section in the song "The Summoning" that sounded sexual and people on social media called it baby making music and stuff. Then people started uploading lipsyncing videos to it on tiktok which made the song go viral. I think this recent Sleep Token craze we're seeing now is people outside the metal community starting to get intrested in it which is cool.
This album is awesome, only discovered them a couple months ago, but they're fast becoming one of my favourite newer bands. Btw, you're right about the ghost Tina Turner cover, its my least favourite from the EP.
Man, this song hits so hard. This album dropped just after my ex and I broke up and this song is basically the only thing that got me through it. The whole vibe of like "take me back to Eden" giving this whole vibe of the singer saying "I didn't realize I was in paradise, but now I know, so please let me go back". To this day this song almost brings me to tears every time I hear it, same with Ascensionism and the Apparition. If anyone reading this sympathizes, just keep ur chin up dude, things'll work out.
The sound of Sleep Token briefly reminds me of another, older english band called Fightstar (without rapping part). Especially their last album. (BTW i would love them to make a comeback someday)
At the beginning, I thought the second half was a little Meh but after a few more listens, it grew to me and now I think the album is a solid 9, its so good.
Nah you're right to make the A7X comparison. I've been a massive fan of there's for over 15 years, but these new songs aint it. I'm roasted by the fanbase on reddit, saying things like, i just don't understand what they're doing. Or I'm just a metal elitist that hates other genres. But i love this, which is clashing all the exact same musical genres together...but it sounds good, its coherent, it all blends together and makes sense. I do think fans sometimes force themselves to like new songs, maybe because they feel like less of a fan if they didn't lile it.
The funny thing with this song/band/ type of sound is that people are quick to dismiss it the very first second they hear like his voice or a piano. I know people like what they like, but calling it bad or garbage or anything like that because of their more mellow sound, sounds just a bit ridiculous to me. And then right after that, calling it the best song ever as soon as distorted guitars kick in, just like you said as well in the video. Is just a bit of a weird mindset to me... To me Sleep Token is just beautiful MUSIC, not metal or hiphop or pop but just music and I find it personally so satisfying and enjoyable to listen to their songs. Im a fan of metal music to the core but Im like glad I can show this album to my gf who is not at all into metal and she loves this album/band, or friends who are into r&b and hiphop also found themselves listening to Sleep Token. To me this is a great thing for the community to have bands like this and them experimenting and trying things out is awesome! Sorry for the small essay i wrote here, just wanted to give my first thoughts, keep rocking Chain!
I think they're very interesting, I'm not going to claim I love everything by them but things like The Summoning definitely. Unrelated but have you listened to the new Kalmah album? P.S. If anyone wants to try something even more eclectic give Diablo Swing Orchestra a go.
If I do it will be on the reaction channel I started. This channel will only be for guitar play throughs and Rocksmith stuff going forward! www.youtube.com/@chainbrainreactions

I agree, it has been quite the surprise for me. The whole album has been quite the enjoyable listen
@Chainbrain it has been. I haven't listened to them before and it definitely came as a surprise. It reminds me of like if tool was a RnB band
Look at this, music that mixes genres but it is actually coherent and good. This is true art.

Sleep token is just on another level… this song is absolutely amazing to me..
Amazing to me too, brother. The Apparition is fucking incredible too! I very rarely get emotional, but that album had me crying about 4 times.
this song ties it up for me.
seems the story end here. vessel joined with and defeated sleep in Ascensionism. the songs in between that and this to me seem to be vessel getting used to him and sleep as a singular being and having memories and not recognizing himself.
1st verse and chorus is vessel showing desire to get to eden. : "i will travel far beyond the path of reason" to end it
2nd verse and chorus represent vessel "waking up" in eden (like waking up after being jacked i to the matrix) : "Well, yeah, I spit blood when I wake up
Sink porcelain stained, choking up brain matter and make-up
Just two days since the mainframe went down and I'm still messed up" like waking up in the actual place eden surrounded by gods
the 3rd verse i think is vessel trying to figure out how to actually end the cycle now that he is awake in the actual eden: "And I don't know what's got its teeth in me But I'm about to bite back in anger No amount of self-sought fury
Will bring back the glory of innocence" no amount of continuing to hurt myself will take me back to innocence
the 3rd chorus to me seems like vessel knows he has to destroy eden and eventually does (the angry part whilst thinking he wants to go back to the beginning (eden) which is expressed in euclid (as if waking from an actual dream to where everything began WITHOUT the ties to sleep)
the whole thing to me gives like digital/electronic vibes. like the story of the video game chrono cross where the main character finds out theres a super computer program essentially controlling and manipulating the whole world😬

I seen Sleep Token live last year with Nothing More and In this Moment. Best concert ive been too.

its all just wiggly air in the end
My favourite song on the album. Been following ST since 2018. Been an intetesting ride.
I love ISSUES! And of course I love Sleep Token!
This song was so good, such a vibe

2:43 they have a choir that sings with them
that must be amazing
I’ve seen a live recording, it looked like they had 3 backup singers
I'm headbanging like a bobblehead on steroids 🤘 Btw I can't wait to see your genuine reaction to Nick Thurl Mavromatis' new song 🤘
Oh shit cahins doing reactions now ?! Yessss
haha we'll see, that last two haven't performed so hot on TH-cam 🤯

Sleep token does kinda remind me of Issues as far as the genre mixing and low tunings goes.

I think it comes down to - are people METAL fans, or MUSIC fans?
@@Chainbrain good point! In the end it doesn’t really matter what people are a fan of, is just that some statements people make are a bit weird 😅

Unrelated but have you listened to the new Kalmah album?

Wtracks for sure" someone said. They just have backup singers and hwere he's been doubled through production he just simply isn't, live.
Are you going to do something similar for your all time favorite band Avenged Sevenfold when LIBAD drops next week?
If I do it will be on the reaction channel I started. This channel will only be for guitar play throughs and Rocksmith stuff going forward!

Okay it's not bad 😂
They blew up because TikTok found the summoning
I don't know man, I reviewed this in my Facebook group a while back and its the worst thing I've heard since SFU's Nightmares of The Decomposed.
Dude could be watching someone being murdered and would still have the same expression.
would the fake head nodding make you happy
This just sounds like Imagine dragon/hozier making metal, cool stuff - definitely not for me lol
No thanks
ok
Song was a meh
