    I loved this video. It is wonderful to hear more official views concerning the safety questions asked. I learned some things I'd never thought about and I was a marshal at a large Road Race track in the U.S. for some years. Great stuff and I do hope we get to see more like this.

      He was very informative. I worked for about 10 years as a Safety Marshal with SCCA on the west coast and much of what he mentioned is similar to what we watched for on Laguna Seca, Sears Point, and Thunderhill, in California. Obviously, priorities on Race Days were quite different than track days but we're still trying to discourage drivers from killing each other. It never changes though... over enthusiastic paired with under-experienced seldom ends well. I suspect these guys at Nurburgring see that factor much more often than we did on the SCCA tracks.

    Police usually has some variant of 'Protect and Serve' on their vehicles, marshals should have 'Just another GT3' on theirs

    I seldom make comments but, Misha this is one of the best contents. Very informative.You should interview Marshall often. I don't have any Abs, Asc, on my car. As the Marshall said, cars are better than the driver. 'Just another GT3" ;-). This guy is just too logical. Thank you both.

    ive been running nurburghring in sim only forza motorsport 7 which is a pretty good representation of the track but i can see from yur videos it would be much harder in real life and there are so many more variables you dont get in a game, one day if i have the money i would really love to come see it! i can remember the corners easily in the game because it always looks the same but watching the dash cam i have more trouble identifying the corners i think because of the changing light and conditions but i would pick it up fairly quickly after a couple of laps, you have the best job in the world and what a beautiful place!

      That's a very important point. I was mentioning a bit, a few comments ago, about track staff at the SCCA tracks that I've worked on in the past. Probably the most important detail that needs to be mentioned is that nearly ALL of the staff on track are volunteers, except the tow trucks and the ambulances. Equally important is the fact that without those volunteers nobody gets a track day, practice laps, or any race days. In my experience, the course workers are very well cared for but nobody gets paid.
      Thank you for mentioning that Michel. Your comment is a very important point.

    But surprised the fire extinguisher is stowed in the back, with less urgent stuff in front of it. But I am just here, and not in the field/on the track.

      @rodrigolj 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I thought it was weird at first, but then it came to mind that if the cone falls because I'm reaching for the extinguisher, it's far less of an issue than the extinguisher falling because I was reaching for a cone.

    Awesome questions especially the HANZ device! Respect for the marshals...as they are the first responders and see too much of what can't be unseen.
    From what I understand you should never wear a helmet without the HANZ especially with a 4 point or more harness; as the added weight of the helmet can aide in breaking the neck as well as a 4 point or more harness can focus the energy of an impact on your neck many times more...?

    The HANS situation makes sense - the driver needs to be able to see -- But I am interested in knowing their stance on passengers wearing HANS.
    I mean, there are street cars that it would make sense for helmets & HANS, the porsche GT cars (when optioned with the half cage) are an example.
    Either way, having more safety for the passenger isn't an issue in my book, and the passenger doesn't need to look over their shoulder or at the side mirrors... So I don't see an issue with it.

    Misha, I hope you see this. I have a safety question. I am building a track car and now have a quick release lightweight steering wheel, bucket seats and I have retained the original seatbelts for convenience + will buy harnesses. Was it a mistake to remove the original steering wheel with airbag seeing as I can not use HANS on TF? Or maybe on TF I go with no helmet? (I only have a half-cage).
    Also, should I use 4 point or 6 point harnesses? I will only do track days and TF, I am not a professional race driver.

    • @justincase9471
      @justincase9471 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I prefer a 6 point harness as it prevents you from slipping underneath the harness in a heavy crash, and it makes the seating more firm.
      On airbags ... Normally we disable airbags on trackdays, that's a common rule. I would disable them on the Ring as well, and to be honest they never worked for me when I crashed my car into the barrier 😅
      If you only go for a half cage then you probably don't even need a helmet. The helmet is to protect your head from smashing into the bars when you crash. No bars == no helmet.

    • @ett_baer
      @ett_baer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@justincase9471 Thank you!! The car is a phase 1 Clio 172 and so far has been fantastic, I can't wait to get it on the track.
      I have no airbags now anyway as the car has a quick release steering wheel.
      I'll get a 6 point - will buy helmets but maybe won't wear them on the ring!
