Forgive my confusion. The engine in this REEN 964 is from a 997 GT3, water cooled engine. I'm sensing you might think it's the "air cooled" engine. I could be way wrong
The videography and use of drones to enhance this make this video one of the best. The vision to build the car is by itself a paradigm shift. Bravo to both.
You guys might have some of the best in car camera shots ever. That over the left shoulder view is perfect, the view from the lower passenger side has everything in the distance and the interior so perfectly exposed......it's impressive
All very clever and intriguing, but the thing I keep admiring is how well it sits. Those wheels are exactly the right size and in exactly the right position in the arches. Just as precise as a Porsche re-engineered by a surgeon ought to be!
Got a beer and a snack, put the channel into 4k mode and sat back to watch my favourite presenter of motor stuff. Great video once again and if I had the money I'd love that Porsche!
Production team needs a raise, outstanding work. Felt like watching a movie. Thank you for portraying this beautiful machine, with the incredible soundwork and beautiful videography, I got goosebumps when that 911 revved up. 10/10
I'm not the only 964 C4 fan! Singer seemingly pushed the 964 market out of sight here in California. I prefer the stock-bodied car to a back-dated one. This iteration is spectacular!

There are a lot of worse AWD cars out there for sure. But I still would never go for an AWD Porsche.
Why are so many people angry about the (cost of) resto-mods? As long as many used GT3s are available (997/991 - expensive but kinda affordable), one can buy a wonderful Porsche, which delivers very (!) close to this experience. Seeing those projects, especially presented & filmed so well, just motivates me to take my car out for another fun-run. Thank you, Henry for your fantastic content!
All these vintage porsche restomods are really great but there’s so many now and we need to preserve the originals because they were great too. These companies should point their expertise towards generations like the flawed 993 triptronic cars or 996 generation which has engine issues. Cars that actually need restomodding
They're restomodding the cars people like the most. People have fonder memories of these cars. The 996 was universally panned by the Porsche community. Personally, I don't have an issue with the 996. If I can find a clean one, I'd do a personal restomod. I'm also younger than those who love the air cooled Porsches.
I think there are enough examples to go around. It's not like these uber expensive restomods are made in the 10s of thousands. Probably less than 1% of all 964 will ever even think about being recreated by one of these companies.
@@pherron7471 It might have been panned by the community, but it won way more accolades in Evo Car of the Year and sold by the ship-load. Way better cars, fundamentally.
A 996 generation c4 or turbowith a modified front headlight set up would be spectacular. I personally like the 996 and think the rear headlights of the c4 and turbo are better than the 997.1
Amazing vlog, production and car! Henry is surely amongst the best car journalists out there. Why he isn't on mainstream TV is dumbfounding. More of this please. 👍👍
A very nice & thorough review of what is probably the most imaginative recreation of a 911 seen so far. The rich audio quality, combined with the stunning scenery, is one classy cinematic background (even if somewhat inspired by a certain Davide Cironi). The REEN thinking apparently focuses on the fascinating character of the dynamic marriage between drivetrain personality and chassis character. When a car is so dynamically plentiful as most 911s are, it is the most correct, most ethical route (as a 911 cannot be really improved, rather mixing'n'matching various "periods" seems the way to go). Very impressed. Kudos to Hr.Hoffmann for aiming in a really well-chosen direction. Hat off to Hagerty for a really focused production.
Great upload Henry. I have owned both a 964 and 997GT3 (plus numerous others), this marriage would be ideal for me, love the driver engagement, but a GT3 mezger engine. Yum. My 992GT3 is not quite doing it for me, it's almost to perfect.
Beautiful video Henry. Both the choice of scenery and the information all spectacular. Very inspiring content. This has to be my favourite car video ever. ❤
One of my favourite narrators of the car World, clear vocals, passionate, very well presented, such a massive contrast dare i mention him, shmee 150, yes he has knowledge but what a greedy obnoxious little man,the constant brag oh my new oh my brandnew his not alone but there not harrys garage, if that nakes sense, keep up the good work henry much appreciated the fact my stomach doesn't do back flips, listening to constant what your buying, shmee, janamize there are liads of massive heads brag brag brag, thanks henry for being human.
If someone were to show me a room full of people and ask me pick out Hans Gruber, even though he looks nothing like Alan Rickman, I would immediately point to this guy
"Modernity" a great terminology. The key to a fantastic reimagining of a classic car is that it looks and performs as if it was this way off the factory floor. If I had the financial means this restomod Porsche would be near the top of my list. Simply put it is "elegant".
What the 964 RSGT ! Is most of porsche 911 fans needed and wanted such special edition car, engine sound running so smoothly and so well, strong and stable traction and chassis respon so well, most of taking so many options and functions can made driver to choose, to using This porsche 964 RSGT doesn't need to proof how faster can be, Is telling all of porsche 911 fans and collectors driving this special edition 964 RSGT relax ! Beautiful 964!! Looks amazing! Sounds amazing! Has some pretty cool features! What’s not to like? Never mind the 964 is the best looking 911 out of all of them. Followed closely by the 911 chassis that donated its engine. How perfect is that? I could look at and listen to this car all day.
Wow. Period correct headlights? Tasteful looking, non-oversized wheels? An actual, REAL paint color, none of this nardo grey nonsense? This is wonderful. I wish other modifiers had as much respect for these cars!
Love it ! The 964 was unremarkable to my eyes after the G-series. I preferred the 993 lines on launch. Hated the 997 abomination. Then let's forget what followed. However the 964 has, for me, aged very well indeed. better than the 993, from a classic 911 perspective, imo.
Hey Hagerty, having heard that amazing sound of the car that others pointed out as well, maybe a new channel to just have audio and maybe video of the road, in cars you guys drive. Post a day or two after review of that particular car. A kind of car enthusiast version of those walking in rain videos😂 We have POV drive channels but am not talking of POV.
I bought a 1989 964 new, best handling and gearbox but it was anemic. This fixes that plus. Probably one of the most fun, best handling cars over a lifetime. Dare I say better than my 2012 911 s. It felt like you and the car were like robo cop, the car melded with your body and the shifting was so precise.
I grew tired of restomodding. But this I think is how I like it. No need to go backdate-y or all that, just keep the 964 design but give it new techs and new heart to make it usable and exciting for modern drivers.
Production value on Henry’s videos is absolutely amazing. Whoever is involved with the camerawork and editing needs a pay rise - and perhaps a mention in some sort of credit sequence at the end of the video. The team should proudly have their name on it 👍
I fell in love with this car in the first minute. Beautiful 911 that sounds wunderbar Edit: But the headlight trim really needs to color match the guards red 🙈
Love the idea... but the 964 is the rarest production run of all 911s and so many 964s are getting chopped up for these cars, singer etc.... a stock 964 will be super rare one day
They already are, in Japan for example you cant find 964s in the open market anymore ,because they are cheaper to buy here and take it overseas , the few ones that get available get swooped by dealers who hold it to sell then to the US and EU to get butchered or put in stock by the scalpers.
6:18 that has got to be the best audio recording of what these engines ACTUALLY sound like that I've ever heard. Wow. Great, great, great capture.
That absolute breathy induction.
When people say they prefer the sound of a living, breathing engine over the sound of an electric vehicle, this is what they mean.
That was like hearing the voice of God
those 10 seconds make the entire video @lowstrife

AMAZING MACHINE! The sound is EXCELLENT! Enough power to thrill in a stealth package - I love it!
This. This is the one I would have. For the simplicity, the engine, and the divine sounds coming out of it. The perfect steering wheel says it all.
I love the subtle nod to the 959 front bumper
Spectacular scenery too!

This is the car we have been looking for, from the Resto mod world. Thank taking us along for the ride 👏👏😎
Really like it, I don’t like the restomods that much, but this one splits the difference perfectly
That’s looks and sounds great! I love the idea of sticking a modern engine in an older, smaller, and lighter car. I must say too, that road looks epic.
Henry's is such a talent !!
That is the single most German looking guy I’ve ever seen in my life. He looks like he just stepped off the set playing a baddie in Die Hard
You clearly have not visited The Slingshot Channel on YT.
Interesting. When I think of a prototypical German look, Schumacher is the first one to come to mind.
If someone were to show me a room full of people and ask me pick out Hans Gruber, even though he looks nothing like Alan Rickman, I would immediately point to this guy
Me pausing the video to check for flights to Davos or Innsbruck. I *have* to drive this road! Excellent video again - thanks Henry and Hagerty.
