Cleanth Brook, a New Critic who laid foundation for the movement along with his pioneers, gives his views on analysis a text using close reading. His critical ideas are put forward though his book 'The Well Wrought Urn' in which the first chapter is titled as Language of Paradox.

Criticism against Brook's essay-
In the essay titled"The Critical Monism of Cleanth Brooks", R. S. Crane criticises Brook's theory of paradox in poetry.
He says that Brooks ignores all the other elements of poetry in his analysis and Brooks also ignores the power of paradox in other discourses other than poetry.
