I'd take an XJ Ultimate, but since I have the benchmark and the jag I'd get a QP since it's awd and different

You say there is a lot of road noise and complain about the ride... Firstly, GET THE ADAPTIVE SKYHOOK suspension, with that, it wafts around on the roads like an S class basically... Secondly, there isnt so much exhaust crackles in the back! When you put it in comfort, its as quiet as a rolls!
Maserati's Skyhook is standard on the Quattroporte. It's an opinion on the Ghibli ( I have Skyhook on my Ghibli and it's excellent)
I love those British channels which always shows some British car and tells this one is better. Funny, everybody knows that the class champ is the S-class. But the Italian one is a sporty alternative.

You got it right in some way, but there is a serious catch. Quattroporte and XJ are cars for gentleman behond the steering wheel and german cars are almost without exeption driven by bullies, newborn rich poor men, or some other persones with attitude problem.

The problem is the Quattroporte was designed onset as a SPORTS sedan (look at QP I, III, IV & V) whereas the XJ was designed onset as a LUXURY sedan (look at XJ6).
Maserati wants to make the QP into a luxury car to appeal to the Chinese market, but the sporty intentions still leak through. As a luxury limo, the QP simply can't beat the luxury-first design of the XJ.
But for those who want a sports car but still need to ferry grandparents & children on an everyday basis, the beautiful QP is hard to beat after ditching the humpback Panamera.
Well thats only true of the v8 (AKA GTS) version they have here, the v6 bi turbo by all accounts has a wonderful ride. this is because Maserati correctly release that of you want a car with well over 500BHP, sports is what you are looking for. Not really a far test, consider just how capable the v6 is both dynamically and as a limo, but i guess they work with what they are given, and if Masa won't give the a v6 what can they do.
I think this is the perfect comparison. Two cars, way more capable than the average driver could even handle, and each takes a very different approach to providing high-end luxury motoring. They may both be in the same class, but they are still worlds apart. So the buyer gets excellent choice, and can make up their own mind what's right for them.

The tail lights on the Quattroporte should have been vertical like the last generation, now it looks too much like the Ghibli, and loses its sophistication
People just can't accept that Jaguar now makes cars which can seriously challenge its rivals for best in class. Most people who talk down to the XJ will never be able to afford a XJ, so why would Jaguar be bothered about their opinions anyway?

Michael Cantelli I own the Jag XJ and visited Maserati last week for a test drive, they lent me a QP for the weekend. Trust me the Jag is better.

Never heard more rubbish in one sentence. The car is neither 'more equiped' nor is it 'bigger' than the XJ.
I test drove the GTS it made some lovely noises, but the equipment is sub-par and hardly luxurious, I've seen more extras on a 5 series.
As for the diesel version, don't even bother, it has neither the performance nor the equipment.

Quattroporte has a sunroof and heated seats as 'extras'.
No cooled seats.
No massage seats.
No panoramic roof.
No blind sport radars.
I stand by my statement, neither more luxurios nor bigger.
I'd also add that the XJ-L has a lot of rear seat vibration because of it's sporty ride. This guy failed to mention that. So too did he fail to mention how little head room is in the backseat of the Jag. The Maserati looks like its bubble dome gives more room.
The Jaguar's back is really awful in my opinion, reminds me of a big hyundai or something...

After owning both the supercharged V8 Jaguar and the quattroporte S I have to say that while the Jaguar has a more cosseting softer ride I think the Maserati is a better (more engaging) all-rounder. As evidenced by the fact that I’m always looking forward to taking the Maserati for a joyride almost daily. Thanks for the video and God bless.

Quattroporte to me always felt like a natural upgrade to the XF (sporty 4 door) more than similar in any way to the XJ (a true saloon)... it's skinnier, lithe, and sportier like the XF. price range it's more like an XJ but body wise and handling it's sporty and skinny like an XF not a saloon like an XJ.

I'm pretty sure the Bentley Continental and the Porsche Panamara Turbo S go faster than 191mph. An F10 M5 will hit 190 without the speed limiter.

Sorry, Maserati executives got it all wrong. 50,000 units per year? With a car redesigned no better than a Kia Cadenza, priced more than a S600 or Alpina B7, tailored to the Chinese market with cost-cutting to result in an interior that falls apart, it's hard to presume this is a winner. And I don't think it will be, because the previous quattroporte had awful reliability issues and the build quality of the industrial revolution era. Hmm. lets see the results
im pretty sure the bentley flying spur speed has a higher top speed than this. i recall top gear going >200mph in one. i still would rather have this quattroporte though by far

The Maserati is a nice looking car but I can't stand the 'pitch fork insignia on the grill and steering wheel. I have the 2016 XJ. It is a wonderful car and I will stick with Jaguar.

No the Ghibli is the E-Segment saloon (4800mm~4950mm) what I want is the Quattroporte VI that has a same length as the previous one (5000mm) because the new one is bit too long (5300mm) I know they're trying to compete upper market than a previous one but I'm sure the shorter wheel base version is nice to have

I've seen promo pics of the new FlyingSpur. It no longer looks like a stretched Continental GT though.
I would choose the qp blindly, love it in every way... and the jag...hmmm well its fortunate its has privacy glass. It looks horrible
correct me if I'm wrong but the bentley flying spurr is fastest 4 door saloon in the world.. with top peed of 198mph.. I'm just not sure if its bigger than the quattroporte

Jesus Christus they made the new qps look smooshed and lose their uniqueness! Look terrible compared to the 05-08
MAserati at the beginning of June had already received 14,000 orders for the year 2013, mostly Quattroporte. If you consider that the Ghibli is just out and the SUV Levante will be for sale just in 2014, I guess the 50,000 sales in 2015 are very realistic.

Wouldn't it depend on what a buyer wants from a car? I don't think a potential buyer of a Maserati will seriously consider a Jag. When you're in the showroom, you've already decided on trying a Maserati, flaws and all. Because of the appealing particular brand charm. Like a Jag has, but differently.

I think you can. An M5 is a mid-sized luxury saloon, and an Audi s8 is a full-sized luxury saloon. But the jag and the Maserati are both full-sized luxury cars.

Maserati is by far more exclusive, more sexy, more sporty, more elegant. Mercedes is only a calculator with wheels.

Nicolas Cage is God It is better to drive than the S Class, but nothing else can rival the S-Class' equipment... nothing! As for the QP, it's equipment is shockingly basic, I've had more toys in a 3 series.

@Victor Alexander For the Fastest 4 door statement most of the cars you mentioned can get to or are limited in top speed. S65, M5 are limited and the Panamera, CTS-V and Rapide can't get to that top speed but I get what ya mean

Yeah and the saloons from Merc AMG (E63 and S63) can also do that, but you will need to beg both BMW and Mercedes to remove the 155mph limter. Agree with you though.

Not always. Some just want a limo to be comfy in. That's the difference you see. Some people are fine with, and actively encourage gawping, admiration, slobbering, envy and all that. Others (myself included) see it as childish and annoying. I prefer to, well I prefer to drive myself actually, but I prefer quietness (when necessary), subtlety, grace, space and pace. The Jag has all of that. In fact, the last three are the entire company ethic.

Right, there are many manufacturer that nobody heard of. Many supercars and sportcars,which are only once produced.
But not every company is small, but that's companies which are known, just like Daimler, Volkswagen AG, BMW AG...
If you want a nice limo, buy an S class. If you want a more sophisticated one, buy the jag. If you want something sexy or sporty, it has to be the Maserati.

I think you make a reasonable point. I'm confident an Italian would disagree or a German would compare the Maserati to an A8, or 7 series LWB instead of the Jag.
However, having owned an earlier all aluminium XJR and an XF I don't doubt the conclusion. They've been making fantastic cars for a while now and even when viewed objectively they have a lot to offer.
if you're talking about limousines than your statement is not valid, Jaguar also makes great exotics even Mercedes, but it doesn't mean you have to compromise the ride and shasis only because it's exotic. it's just marketing bias, i'm a little disappointed from the new 4porte anyways.. in allot of things
Shame it was left in a garage, they make great first classic's nowadays. Cheap and easy to maintain, run and they're fairly practical. You don't see that many, either. Like Austin Maxi's and Ford Sierras of later years, there just isn't a big following. Shame.

those are not the wheels. those are just the wheels on this car sample that was given to this guy to test out.
MiniMinChiii: Actually the Audi S8 only reach 250km/h and the Alpina ~310 km/h. You can compare them but the difference between 250 & 310 km/h is huge. So I don't think that the Audi S8 is faster than the Alpina on german Autobahn.

MAYBE you should think about what production car actually means. It means that they are "mass" produced cars. Even the BUgatti Veyron is considered a production car. So what does beeing a Coupé have to do with that. The CTS-V is mass produced in a factory and the Flying Spur is still in production and there will soon be an updated version.
Hmmm well so much for it´s driving abilities and it´s ride, not many do this better than Mr. Steve Sutcliffe. I Liked the review, but would like to hear a bit more about other details, but that will for shure come from other reviewers. Thanks ;)
I'm going to have to take your word for it, I haven't driven either or the cars.
I guess they don't count because you have to buy the M Driver's Package. The standard car hits only 155 mph, as all others supersaloons.
