I’m so glad this is finally available to see! As much as many disliked the VR on Galactica, I will always have fond memories of this as it was my first ever encounter of the technology in 2016.
Always loved the music on this too!

Kieran Kt stopped because people were complaining it gave them a headache.
I mean come on that is borderline Incredibly dumb...
guests also had the option to not wear the headsets so that’s a bit weird if that was the reason why they stopped them. i know people also complained about the queue taking ages because they had to wipe each one after every use

Me too! I went during the coronavirus when everyone went mad in the summer so they weren’t doing VR.
Imagine this: Alton towers saves this video and puts it in a motion simulator flat ride in forbidden valley...
The rate they are going I doubt we will see a new flat ride anytime soon 😂

This was genuinely my favourite ride in the park with the headsets on. Shame it had such poor maintenance and they had to remove it. RIP.

Lewis, That's what you think, It was because every ride has a ride throughput, and it was becoming one of the slowest rides to remove the queue, normally Galactica before VR was pulling around 3,000 guests an hour, and it severely reduced that, because of the VR, meaning it would take longer each ride of loading/unloading.
@@bradders_xd5278 Yeah, it’s definitely understandable why they did it but I really enjoyed when it worked.
@@bradders_xd5278 yeah right there is no way a flying coaster has 30 second dispatches. probably around 1.2-1.3k guests an hour. i cant think of a single coaster besides old ones with lap bar restrains that can dispatch in less than 30 seconds
Not everyone likes VR. In fact it’s quite a small minority who genuinely do. Many also experience headache/nausea/dizziness from it. Not to mention they had to clean the headsets due to hygiene reasons/eye infections, which are quite serious.
I’ve been going to the park all my life. I’m also a life long PC gamer. I’m glad this went. Wish they had invested in scenery and not the VR as Wardley also wanted.

they did have two stations so they could have made a system around VR/non-VR stations instead of rows

This VR was amazing! I rode it twice with VR. Once in the summer and once at scarefest. I loved it, however the headset slipped off my eyes and i had to hold it on. I prefer it without the VR but it was still amazing.
That was my only complaint too, it slipped off soo easily. I pefered the VR though despite the long waits.

Unpopular opinion but the VR was actually pretty good especially for me as I have a fear of heights so this really helped

This is awesome to be able to see again! A shame it isn’t actual 360 footage for use with a personal VR headset but nevertheless it’s cool!

You could! I rode it many times with VR and the whole purpose of being able to use Virtual Reality technology with the Samsung Gear VR headsets was to create a fully immersive reality you could look around.
You could look around within your seat but the bulkyness of the VR rig and the close proximity of the restraints made it difficult to do so, but it was noticeable

There was no way to tell if it was full 360 as you couldn’t turn around in the train. From looking all the way up and down it seemed that way though!
It wasn’t full 360 degrees, when it was not synced properly you could see the edge of the video
Rode in 2016, didn't see the video because the bloody headset was broken! As cool as it is I'm glad it's not a VR coaster still. They should've put the money towards getting Air the original theming it deserved, although I guess that wouldn't have caught the public's attention nearly as much
Towers' gimmick is world-firsts. They had to do something to do with that.
This ride was my first experience with VR and it blew my mind.

I miss this so so much. Getting a good headset with that amazing IMAscore soundtrack was an amazing experience on an otherwise pretty boring coaster. We greatly miss it
Sucks we won’t get to see it on the ride again, would make such a difference to the ride.
This VR ride was the best ride I've ever been on!
What would be awesome as well is a split screen as I'd love to see this alongside the non-VR POV to match them up, or maybe even an overlay semi transparent so they are merged, or both :) This music sounds so good in the park, especially in the evening with the ride lit up.
Edit: this could actually be a really cool idea for the park to do in a flying theatre, could then be longer and bigger too, tagging it onto a coaster loses some of the coaster's environmental thrill and it's too short a time really, so that could work better, good as it is on a coaster.

I know people hated it but I really liked the vr, and since it was optional later in its life it meant that if you diddnt like it you could ride without, but if it was to stay I wish they kept the original headsets since they actually worked and stayed on your face unlike the second ones which would stay on until the first drop then fall off
I was blown away by the VR. I didn't rate the coaster as AIR but the VR made it more exciting...shame it really didn't perform well in the real world but I miss it
As someone who never got to experience the ride, I'm glad this finally available! Now I wish that USJ would do the same thing for their limited edition XR Rides...

This VR made the ride my favourite in the UK! I wished they could have bring it back even if you used 1 queue line for VR and 1 without (maybe go over the bridge for VR?)

The one issue I had with the VR is that every time I went to ride it, there was no V-sync on my headseat, meaning there was awful tearing of the video whenever it moved.
Alton tower Is a fun place to go

I'm glad I got the opportunity to go on with the vr before they removed it. Dead good ride
I found the VR to be quite an amazing experience, but it sadly slowed down the loading and unloading of the trains HUGELY, which made the queues twice as long as they were when it was Air. The ride's capacity was cut in half. As much as I enjoyed the VR experience, they were right to get rid of it. It would probably have been ditched now anyway due to... you know what!

I think it would be cool if they kept galatica the same but a retrack with the vr headset and it would be about us fighting the new nemesis monster. I just think it would be cool to see the nemesis monster moving and look real
I went on it around 20 times and only once the audi/video was fully in sync and screen was in focus, but boy it was a good ride. Sadly when it was out of sync/focus or poor audio ir didn't work and the queues were very poor. Amazing idea, but needed another station platform to get a decent throughput.

As much as I love the original version of Air. This seemed really cool in a way of rebranding a coster. I like the space theme vr. Shame never got to experience it. There was also the you me at six music that was added to the swarm ride for like a couple of days.
Is Said they took away the VR and I never got to experience the VR but still wet on the ride and is amazing
I was only 9ish when this came out, i love thrill rides, technology and want to be an astronaut, i was to small and when i eventually got to go on they removed the VR 😢 oh well 🤣 is it coming back its just because it has posters of new *destinations* ?

I have experienced this once, it's good and unique but made me feel dizzy, I struggled to keep the headset on whilst going upside down and it slowed down train loading, so I'm glad they've gotten rid of it but kept the awesome theming and soundtrack

i went on galatica today but the vr couldn’t be used because of covid so i pratically got to ride air because it shut down before i had chance to go on it 😂
I was looking down half the time because I was too lazy to lift me head up.
With the better tech now, more detailed environments and make it less... busy(?) it could be great. Exploding this and that, loud music, just calm it down a little. Make it a more ethereal flight experience in one location, with the sensations from the ride and all this its just overly stimulating.
So... why did they end up getting rid of the VR?

A lot of the issues with this is that VR makes most people sick. So it was obviously going to get mixed reviews. A lot of people loved how it looked, however it made them feel sick afterwards

I feel like they should rename this back to Air, now that the VR’s gone. I think they only named it Galactica because of the VR, and also, the VR pounches are sill on the trains. Do you think they’ll remove them.

Why did they stop doing the Vr experience?
Possibly to do with running costs, reliability of the system and a drag on the hourly throughput of the ride.
