  • Hey Gang! In Today's video we make a huge leap in this bathroom by finishing our skim coat and texturing these walls. We need to texture the walls so the bathroom is seamless with the rest of the house. Our goal is to make it look like we were never there. This new hopper is an awesome addition to the Stud Pack tool belt and this thing is going to get a lot of use. If you have any questions or tips leave them down below in the comments! Thanks for watching and we'll see ya in the next one!

My soul crumbles watching you retexture the beautiful flat walls. I just spent countless hours skimcoating and removing all the texture from my walls. I hate textured walls. 🙂

His clientele must b an older couple. Won’t b surprised if there living room is trimmed out in gold. Texturing, shag carpets, wall paper all a thing of the past or at least for the northeast it is. I know down south knock down can still b a big thing that is done in higher grade homes.

I was thinking the same thing. Why are you ruining a beautiful smooth skim coat with texture. Before I moved into my current house I paid a crew a lot of money to do three coats of skim coat on the entire house. It’s beautiful!

If you ever need drywall mud to set up fast. And you dont have fast setting mud or dont feel like mixing it. You can sprinkle table salt on the mud in your pan or hawk . It works really good . The more you put on the faster it will set .

It’s not enough to have a video of good work. I have skipped through plenty because they were BORING. • @tedspens
    @tedspens 2 ปีที่แล้ว

It's not the air whipped into the mud; it's the air in the first coat after it's dry. Notice the first coat doesn't bubble, only the following coat(s) do. The dried coat sucks moisture from the new coat but it's full of air that has to go somewhere. On sealed surfaces it escapes through the new coat. This is from decades of observation and it never fails, first coat never bubbles. Okay, rant over. Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

Air in ice cream = Overrun. It's funny, I just found that out last week in a round-a-bout way. Ice cream has about 30% air whipped into it and things like soft-serve have more (>50%). If you don't do that, it is just a hard block of cream.

I believe it's because the sprayed texture accentuates any imperfections in the wall. So a small bump or dip will become a much bigger bump or dip once the added material is sprayed on.

What is it with Americans (European here) and that texture you put on "all" the walls, why not have flat walls that you paint, looks better (in my opinion), and is easier to keep clean, like all the dust and stuff that "sticks" to all the bumps in the texture, or use wallpaper if you do not want to paint.?

We agree flat walls do look better and more modern. We textured the walls here to match the rest of the house and make our remodel more seamless for the owners 💪🏼

TBH, we texture here because it hides imperfections. With semi gloss-gloss paint and not overly aggressive texturing, it is just as easy to clean. The problem comes when re-work is needed. It can be hard to match textures, and frankly some do-it-yourselfers don't bother, so the patch becomes very obvious.

It seems a real shame to have gone to all that work on the taping and skimming only to spray texture coat on it. It must be a US thing. Here in the UK, that would be viewed as a real 1980s thing and deeply unstylish.

I lot of Americans feel the same way, self included. I bet the homeowners requested it. They're probably just a little more old school.

Almost all houses in my area are smooth walled. Probably just had to texture it to match the rest of the house.

Why not just keep the walls smooth.

Why is water allowe to get BEHIND the tiles, why would anyone even want that to be possible, that's gonna be a petridish.

    • @StudPack

Most tile and grout is not waterproof. Water will get behind it. It either has to drain or dry. In the original shower on this project the water couldn’t drain so it migrated up thru the floor grout and brought dissolved latex with it

@@StudPack IDK man we've been building showers with just tile and cement for centuries without much issue here in Europe. Tiles are full set, so there is no space between the tiles and the wall, no grooves or pockets, and grout is a fine waterproof sealing cement so there is really nowhere for water to be except where it is supposed to. The house I live in is over 50 years old and has the original tile and grout, no issues whatsoever. Any amount of water behind the tiles will cause the cement to degrade and the tile to fall off. I guess I'm missing some detail about construction in the US.
