      I was thinking the exact same thing. Very comfortable in front of the camera... Honestly just as good as a professional TV host. One thing other youtubers struggle with is unnatural/uncomfortable breathing while talking. Also, some try too hard to use fancy words or even just finding the correct words to use. You don't have any problems with that... And the acting for your "skits" isn't cringey either. Keep up the great work guys! 👍🏼

      Push just enough to get that etching sound and it’ll be good. Soft tiles will be super rough if you push too hard. Weird how that works. Everyone’s first instinct is to push hard. Took me some time to get a feel for it.

    Coming from a tile installer I appreciate the pride you have in your work. The cutting board will leave imperfect scores sometimes but all you can do is finish off with the tile saw. Also so you didn’t have to mess with the Dremel
    The next day to re insert spacers just put them in the same day before you leave. Just make sure your edges are filled with thinset so they don’t move on you.
    You guys should consider using a finished edge like a aluminum trim or a mitre so the raw edge of tile is not exposed. Beautiful cut in the crown molding by the way.

  • @jonathanbell9349
    @jonathanbell9349 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Depending on how hard the tile is, sometimes the score and snap doesn't break clean, then you have to use a wet saw. But if it cuts ok and you want to clean up the edge, get a sanding/buffing wheel attached to a grinder and you can smooth those cuts real nice.

The only thing I would change maybe is the tile layout pattern on the top surround around the tub and look for different angles, lines and patterns for the tile. Those wedge spacers are good for anti lipage But they dont keep you plumb if the wall is off...gotta use a level to do that the old fashioned way.....also i would have used Schluters for the edging of tiles. Some bran new cutters are off by 1/32 or so sometimes. We will make a Mark in both ends for a 1x2’ and figure out the happy side of difference. It’s usually the bearing or wheel that flexes just a tiny bit. Smooth quick score motion helps with consistency.

    Besides myself, you two experts are the only ones who ever even mention thinset slaking. Thanks. You may want to explain this more thoroughly as I'm sure many don't know what it is when you say slake. Great workmanship. It shows you care. I have four dust control recommendations that you will really like. One is the whale tail that fits onto your vac hose over the bucket you are mixing in. This simple tool allows indoor mixing of cement products. The other recommendation is to add a dust deputy to your vac. Mostly all the dust and debris will fall into the pail and not clog your vac filter. You won't believe you ever worked without it. Thirdly is a dustless sander for the drywall finishing, mine is a P-C brand but there are many on the market. Lastly, at least for your demo phase, get yourself a portable dust collector. Set it up outside and fit a piece of plywood to the window with appropriate hole for 4" hose. This will save your lungs and again you will not believe that you ever worked without it. I have wanted to share these tips with you for a long time. Great channel and work. I can provide details on where to get these items or you can find them for yourself.

    Snap cutters are a life saver lol. Only score once. Make sure the starting score and ending score make good contact. Sometimes pressure is reduced while your pushing forward and the score wont be true and even at those two points. Too much pressure on the score will pass thru the glazing and cause an awkward snap. I hold my hand on the back of the tile if it is long so it dosnt shift off the spine. Long tiles can also have an arch to them which make a long snap more tricky. Variances in texture of the tile face may change the outcome a bit too. Smooth tile almost always snap cleanly. Textured faces not so much. Looks good guys good work and that scribe to the trim was a great professional detail.

    Now I know why you weren't using a tile break (what I call them) in your prior video. Glad you got one. Less mess, more accurate cuts, and you can cut the tile in the same room as the tile is being laid! The best tile layer we ever used didn't own a wet saw. Nothing against wet saws. I have one. But, IMHO not to have/need one is the way to go.

      I have a small kitchen sink tile job I need him to do for me and we're trying to figure out our options of cutting 2"x2" tiles to size wisely.
      So far what seems logical to use is the "freehand" glass scorer tool, then put it in the vise and gently wack it with a hammer to get a clean cut. Having never done this before, it sounds risky....
      Next is incorporating tile nippers to achieve our small cuts. Again, having no experience with this before, I'm not yet convinced it'll result in clean cuts.
      Being that my entire project is only 5 feet long by 25 inches deep with a 25"x18" sink in the middle, we're certainly not getting a wet saw or even a tile snapper machine.
      Can you tell me anything more about this Dremel tool attachment??

    May I share my way of cutting the tile piece for the crown moulding:
    use a oscillating saw to cut the crown moulding, instead of cutting the tile to fit . way more clean and easy.

    • @slektektiv
      @slektektiv 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      And what do you do to the crown moulding afterwards? Sand it down and paint it? Isn’t that just as time consuming?

      I was going to that until I realized that the small cove at the bottom of the crown didn't project out as far as the tile. I had to scribe that part anyways so I thought I would give the whole thing a try to see if I could do it 😁👍👊

    I always press down pretty hard to score tile on my boss's tile snapper, otherwise it doesn't make a clean cut or shatters the tile. Look at the line before you snap it, make sure it's consistently scored.

    You can set the sponge against the hole bit instead of just splashing it in. Just a tip. Also works with angle grinder. After a bit of practice you’ll be doing it one handed.

    With the tile cutter give you an unclean edge, I noticed with mine that I get a better clean break if I keep the foot close to the end of the tile when snapping it. If you get 2 or 3 inches from the edge where the foot depresses the tile you get a rougher break. I am just guessing at this point but I think the speed of the break is faster when you snap it from the edge of the tile and you don't get the little flakes. Love the channel guys.

    I use snap cutters every day for my tile work, I'm a tile setter in New Zealand. The key I've found with any score & snap cutter is to have easy, even pressure, especially when your scoring wheel is new and sharp. As you use it more, the blade "tames" or dulls, where you can put a little more pressure. Different tiles also affect how much pressure you should put on your scores, but regardless of how much downward pressure you put while scoring, the most important thing is to put very very even pressure while scoring to get that perfect cut every time :) hope that made sense

    with the tile cutter if its a new wheel it will be very sharp so don't press so hard in till the wheel has time to where in also the softer the tile the less pressure you need . The tile cutter will make cutting around windows a breeze .

    tiler from aus here, have you guys checked out the sigma tile cutters? i have found they are really good to use and you can do slight adjustments to keep it cutting straight and also you get adjustments to cut on certain degree angles, great for doing herring bone or anything that requires allot of 45 degree cuts etc.

    If you can get them I think Thickster brand blue gloves are the best. We get them here in California from most tile shops. Pretty durable and probably last 3-4 jobs per pair for me. I usually don’t wear them unless I’m floating or grouting or setting while it’s super cold but for those they are perfect.

      @@StudPack Still doesn't change the fact that as a german I really dislike the american "paper-mache" way of building houses.
      I need my concrete and brick walls.
      When I spend sometime in Canada I moved into the basement, at least there I had a nice cold concrete wall 😂
      But it has it drawbacks, e.g. a new window is a real pain in the butt if possible at all.
      A saw wouldn't suffice.

    On your tile wetsaw. its better to have the water pumo in a bucket of clean water, the tray is for catching the used waster & grit only. The pump will last longer and I think the blade works better with clean water too. Thats why you see pumps for sale next to the tile saws, the grit in the water destroys the pump when its used in the catch pan.
    all you need to do that is a piece of clear hose and a brass hose barb to join on the longer section of hose. I've had me wet saw setup that way from when it was new and the water pump is still working fine.
