One thing that helps me justify my yarn costs is not necessarily “cost per wear” but “cost per project length” - knitting is more about enjoying the process for me and if I divide the cost by the amount of time I spent knitting with it I feel like that’s a more accurate measurement of MY enjoyment at least 😉 Happy New Year and happy stitching in 2025!
Yes! Cost per hour of entertainment is definitely something I’ve thought about before with different hobbies. I wish I could convince myself to properly track knitting time so I’d have some idea what those actual numbers are but I haven’t managed it yet 😂 I love this way of thinking about it though.
@@AliMakesEverything and $800 for a hobby is very little when you consider what some people spend per year on their hobby. We get the fun of the knitting process and we get a wearable garment at the end meaning we don't have to buy that sweater! Bargain really 😊 My favourite knit this year is a navy cardigan from a 1940s pattern. BTW I was told that button band pick up rate is always less than the edge number or you'll get the rippling so in this case I think your pattern may not be correct?
Congratulations on finishing the sweater in time! I like your sister's idea of filming her watching you! LOL Happy New Year and want to see what comes next! Rosie
Hi Ali! I watch a lot of knitting podcasts and just wanted to let you know that yours is one of my favorites... ❤ I hope you have a great New Year and look forward to your videos in 2025.
I’ve just discovered your channel. I love your work - the Minou Cardigan in particular is incredible! Your sister is very very lucky. That colour is gorgeous ❤ Also, I really enjoy the way you explain the costs and costs per wear of your knits. Sometimes it’s easy to forget how much ££ we can spend on our craft. I think this will help me be more mindful of the quantity of items I knit. Also, love your glasses 👓 😘
I'm so glad you finished the cardigan for your sister! Two months for it is really fast, especially considering all the cables and the texture. My favourite here is the Fausta, which I'd like to knit as well. But overall, you're great with picking colours! It's so nice to watch a podcast with no beige! As for my favourite knit of 2024, I believe it was my Noelle Blouse, which I tested for Fabel Knitwear. I'll be talking about it (and other tests) in my next video of the knitting channel I just started 😊
I actually gasped when you said you had to undo the button band on the 22nd. The cardigan is beautiful and such a stunning gift. You and your mom look so alike. What a wonderful budget for a year of knitting. Happy New Year 🎉! Happy knitting 💚🧶🩷
I was thinking you could knit a tube that could slip on under the fingerless mitts, cover the fingers you want covered, and still use the fingerless mitts as fingerless . Or something that goes around your palm with the mittenlike part. Again to go under the fingerless mitts. Good luck. Happy New Year.
We need a “Saga” count for how many times you say it. I’m always like WAIT… hahaha I still can’t believe you pulled off the cardigan for Kim but it’s so amazing. How do I get my knits to look as professional as yours??
Ali, ive had the same issue with the button band on a cardigan, and what I did, which works perfectly, is that i sew (took no time) 2 bands of of a ribbon in the inside. That worked because a/ it looks beautiful when it shows, and b/ it made the button band sturdy...im going to see if I can attach a pic of it... esmeralda
I find the amount of dog hair is affected by the time of year rather than the yarn. My border collies blow their coats in late autumn and again in late spring. This coincides with peak dog hair issues for me, regardless of the yarn I'm using. Thank you for your videos, they are always good fun and excellent value as you squeeze in twice as many words per minute than a standard youtuber. Looking forward to seeing your knits, mugs, and book recommendations in 2025 ❤
I love the fit of your Fausta, and deep teal is my favourite colour! I keep getting distracted by how much I love your jeans too, to the point I bought some similar after watching your no frills cardigan compilation. Also I was so invested in you finishing that cardigan, glad you got it done!
I got myself a Maker shirt for Hanukkah and it’s even better than I expected. My computer is now also adorned with an adorable sticker. I’m the cutest thanks to you! 🎉
Hi Ali, Happy New Year! I think that the project I most liked this year was my ranunculus. I used a silk from a local indy dyer and it took only 3 skeins.
Wait a minute. My cardigan doesn’t have buttons on it does it? I gotta go look in my closet now. Also a size 3?! I like knitting sizes. Sounds slim 😂😂😂
For another pair of dog walking mitts, try the Point Edwards Mitts by Fairlight Fibers. They are customizable on the arm and fingers, with no detachable parts, but full finger coverage.
@@AliMakesEverythingmy husband uses his for night time astronomy and loves them. Lots of dexterity required for small knobs, but also cold winter nights. He’s the toastiest astronomer out there.😁
I used to feel silly getting solids from indie dyers but I realized one of the benefits of indie dyers is the vast color selection it opens you up to! They create so many unique, or on trend, solids that big brands just aren’t doing! So no shame for splurging on that winterfell
It’s true, there’s so much more colour nuance to be found from indie dyers! I think this is why it always feels silly to me when I see other people do it and justified for me because I don’t love purple so I don’t understand anyone being that jazzed about THIS exact purple but obviously this exact shade of Winterfell is objectively unique and magical 😂
So many gorgeous projects! As much as I don't like PK, I'm really inspired by your yellow No Frills Cardigan 💛 I have yellow yarn to make a normal length cardigan, but I have some stunning electric purple mohair to make a Duster Bunny by Beata Jezek / Hedgehog Fibres to make myself a maxi length cardigan 💜 Do you mind me asking what portable mic you're using for your video? The sound was excellent! The Tekla top would look SO cute over a white long sleeve tee 🩵 my 03 Rib Cami, which was my favourite thing that I knit this year, I finished in November 😅 and I've found so many ways to layer it since then because I was so excited to wear it! HHF Budgie is such a sweet colour and it looks SO pretty on you!
That duster is going to be STUNNING 😍 I can't wait to watch that one come together in your videos! Yay, I'm so happy you noticed the mic making a difference! It's the Rhode Micro Wireless set 😊 brandstore.rode.com/products/wireless-micro?variant=51669126545775 Ooh I hadn't thought about layering it like that! I totally have a longsleeve that would work perfectly for it too. Great idea!
Hi Ali! You have such great integrity behind your knits. As a Canadian, consider adding a Land Acknowledgement to your introductions. I don’t see anyone doing that on here. It’s a great opportunity to pause and consider this beautiful land we are privileged to live on, seeing as wearing knits is so connected to being in nature.
OMG just got to the selfie I sent you 😂😂😂 maybe would have taken a clearer shot if I had realized it would appear in a video. In hindsight I probably should have assumed 😅😂

Maybe I should film myself watching your videos… does anyone want to watch Ali’s sister react to her?! 😂😂

It really was, I’ve never knit so much in my life 😂 Congrats on starting your own channel! 😄
I’m dying at these progress pictures. I would have loved the 3/4 sleeve crop cardigan too 😂😂😂
Looks very bright. Did someone really cool buy you a fancy new light or something? 😂
I actually gasped when you said you had to undo the button band on the 22nd. The cardigan is beautiful and such a stunning gift. You and your mom look so alike. What a wonderful budget for a year of knitting. Happy New Year 🎉! Happy knitting 💚🧶🩷
Hahhahaha the gasp! Thank you for grasping the full severity of the situation 😂
If you wanted to make the Tekla top again, you could do some short rows at the back hem to even the length out 🤷♀️
i ALSO tried and tried to find the & other stories squiggle sweater secondhand and couldn't! what a great idea to knit one yourself!!
I posted my charts to my Ravelry in case you decide to knit it yourself and want a starting point you can modify to your size! 😄
For my next gift I would like a floor length no frills cardigan thank you

Love the time and attention you put in to figuring out your cost per wear. Brilliant!! Happy New Year, Ali! Hope it’s great 😊
Thanks so much Hailey! Happy new year! 🥳

Hahahaha we on this channel we’re conscious of value in both cost per wear AND words per minute 😂

Also sweet mug
I always slow down the speed.
Only way I can watch your podcast. 😂😂😂
The magic of technology 😂
Hi Ali, Happy New Year! I think that the project I most liked this year was my ranunculus. I used a silk from a local indy dyer and it took only 3 skeins.
Amazing! Love a project that doesn’t use up a ton of yarn! 😄

your cloudbow is the perfect board game night top!
Yes, absolutely! 😄
I’m sorry for encouraging shenanigans…but your sister’s comments are everything! 😂
Give this follower a prize 🎉😂
@ 🤣🤣🤣
She does not need this positive reinforcement 😂
Oh, believe me, I know! You 2 are just like my sisters and me. I love it! ❤️
please update us on the trigger finger mittens for canadian winter situation once the temp dips! :D. also- that no frills cardigan slaps!!!
Absolutely! 😄 And thank you! 😊

Have you considered starching the button band on the No Frills?
Interesting, I’ve never thought to starch anything in my life but maybe this is the time!

I say after splurging on a bunch of little lionhead knits sock yarn 😂

Really appreciate that my cardigan did not come with a Cooper fur trim 😂

@ thank you so much for the quick reply! I'm excited to see what you make in 2025, especially now that you're free of gift knit cardigan purgatory 😊
If you're looking for another dating show, I HIGHLY recommend the Australian Farmer Wants a Wife!!! It's SOOOOOO good hahah
I am taking notes, I’m always looking for more dating shows, thank you so much 😂
The. Stockings are no longer available 😢
So unfortunate, it was a good pattern! 😩
You forgot that this “Tekla” started as “the blouse”
I meant cloudbow

Bee from Maker Bee does it. She's phenomenal, you should check her out !
omg yes
Excuse me. You wore my gift before giving it to me?!? Bahahaha
OMG just got to the selfie I sent you 😂😂😂 maybe would have taken a clearer shot if I had realized it would appear in a video. In hindsight I probably should have assumed 😅😂
