Love your designs… and many great gift ideas❤❤❤
The absolute irony of getting an ad a mere second after you talked about youtube premium was... choice. :)
Absolutely love your logo! I would love it on a mug. My friend has a mug press and I was wondering if it was possible to buy an electronic copy of your logo that I could print a mug for me and my 6 friends for Christmas pressies? Xx
Seriously woman. SLOW DOWN
Not me putting every TH-cam video on 1.5x including sometimes this one 😅
That ball winder is gorgeous!
The thing I recently bought myself that I thought was super neat was an unconventional and one-of-a-kind yarn bowl. There's a local guy who finds things at the thrift store and cuts a yarn bowl curlicue into them. The one I got seems to be an old magazine bin with vaguely Chinese elements. I don't really use it as a yarn bowl but more as storage in my living room. So if you live with a knitter and know their taste well, some kind of aesthetically pleasing yarn storage might be nice. Nail care stuff can be useful for the same reason hand cream can be (so you don't snag your yarn). For an off-beat gift, nålebinding supplies would be fun for a fiber artist who's interested in historical things. Maybe a book on it and a couple of needles? (That's the craft that turns up in socks from six thousand years ago.)
I've never heard of nalebinding before! So interesting!
As a knitter/crocheter, yarn is such a personal purchase and when my wonderful husband said he wanted to buy yarn, I explained to him that it's much better to give a gift yard to the local yarn shop because I shop for yarn based on my intended project because my yarn preferences change based on the project. He has passed this information onto every family member ❤😂
Hahhahahaha wise husband!
Oh look, cute t-shirts and stickers! [RUNS TO BUY ALL THE MERCH]
Thank you so much! 😄
For the knitter who has space considerations, an amish style swift and a small yarn winder would be good alternatives to the beautiful ones you suggested. Also agree with the suggestions for gift cards for an LYS - or for ravelry pattern purchases!
Ooh yes, great idea! 😄
I’d add a knitting neck light to the list, such as from Lumos. My knitting friends seem to all enjoy them.
Ooh yes, I've debated getting one of these more than once! 😄
I like your tshirts, but I would have to go up multiple sizes to get my hips to fit. Is there anyway you can offer a woman's tshirt?
Thank you so much! From my reviewing of size charts, most women's cut shirts have the same or smaller measurements than the unisex/straight cut shirts of the same size label and would require sizing up even further, so I've decided to stick to a limited product range to keep things simple for now 😊
@AliMakesEverything the issue with sizing up in unisex is that the shoulders are far too big
My local yarn shop (LYS) has an electronic record of everything I've ever bought from them. They would be able to advice on quantities and types of yarn I might like.
So sneaky! I like it! 😄
That sweater book would be super useful for an improvised cardigan I've been kicking ideas around for a few months. Great suggestions!
Ooh yes, I could absolutely see it being helpful there! Happy knitting! 😄
You said “Cocoknits,” and I heard Cocomellon… twice 😂. I had to look up from what I was doing and rewind. I guess this is a “tell me you have kids without telling me you have kids” moment
😂 Incredible
“You know how to use stickers, so I don't have to tell you about that.” Just made me laugh. Your merch is beautiful and so well thought out. Thank you for this list. Happy knitting 💚🧶💚
Thank you so much! Tooooo much time went into it so I appreciate that some of it shows 😄 Hahahaha
I’m just so proud of my friend who is getting sponsor deals and making merch and being cool and successful 🎉 🎉 🎉 YOURE a great gift! Thanks for sharing with us!
Ahhhh you're the sweetest 😍 Thank youuuu!
Another good idea would be a gift certificate to the knitters favourite yarn shop. Especially if the giver wants to buy a sweater quantity of yarn but doesn’t know what to buy. Great ideas💖!
Yes, 100%! 😄
@@AliMakesEverything I am secretly hoping my husband does this 🙏
Block those knits on a plant heat mat for starting seeds, even speedier, mine is about 2x3 feet and they are designed to be safe if they get wet.
Interesting! I imagine this would only be safe on superwash wools otherwise felting would be a concern? But that's so interesting!
@@AliMakesEverythingNope, it’s just gentle heat with no agitation. Like drying them on a heated tile floor
If someone isn’t able to find out enough info to buy a surprise SQ of yarn, finding out *where* the knitter likes to purchase yarn could make for a great gift card option!
Yes! This is a great option 😄
ALSO YOUR MERCH IS SO CUTE!
THANK YOU! I love an excuse to make cute things 😂
I can tell you're an incredible gifter to your loved ones because you think outside of the box and don't go for the most obvious thing. Everyone always thinks I want yarn, but I love the joy of picking out yarn for specific projects, so I much rather have someone gift me many of the knitting-supportive/adjacent ideas you mentioned! My partner is taking me to a local yarn store for my birthday in a couple weeks and said their budget is a sweater's worth...I'M SO EXCITED!
I 100% agree! Thank you, I take gift selections very seriously hahahahaha 😄
Nice wool wash and blocking mats are a couple other items that can feel like a bit of a splurge but are easy gifts that can add an extra luxurious element to the tedious blocking process.
Oooh yes, I love this idea!
I snagged a T-shirt and a sticker right away! Some gift ideas: hand care - compression gloves, hand exercise tools, cuticle oil, nail kits, gift card for a manicure or a massage. Organization: makeup bags make good project bags for socks, big baskets to keep multiple projects in, A5 binders with divided plastic inserts to store fixed circulars/cable needles/dpns. Other: tags (the kind that say handmade by and whatnot)
Ooh these are all great suggestions! And thank you so much for supporting the channel! 😍
Instantly and I mean INSTANTLY bought those two T-shirts! I am so glad I found your channel, you made me discover so many amazing artists and I love your style. Hope you make more designs, huge fan of embroidered clothing items and those two are adorable. I'd also like to add Brodé serré as a suggestion for great gifts for makers. She makes amazing d.i.y embroidery kits, but she also has adorable scissors in so many colours! I have a pair in green and I carry them everywhere to cut stray bits of yarn
You made my morning! Thank you so much! 😍 Also Brodé Serré is SO cute!
Feel the same 😢
Okay so I have officially watched all your videos and I LOVE them!!! Your podcast is so lovely and you are so lovely and we have literally the same taste in books and tea and I am SO SO happy that I stumbled upon your channel! Also, Fangirl is one of my all-time fav books too!! I read it so many times that my copy fell apart and I had to get a new one haha
😍 I'm adding your latest video to my watch queue for this weekend because it sounds like we are exactly the same person and I clearly need to watch 😂 Thanks so much for watching! 😄
I love your Cloudbow and it's just heavenly with the Wandering Flock mohair! That pattern is definitely on my list to knit, but I haven't decided to make the top or the dress yet 😂 Also, Fia Fia is my local yarn store here in Halifax 😊
I'm going to say make the dress because a) it'll be divine and b) I'm not the one who has to knit that whole length 😂
I watch or have watched many of these. A few others that I enjoy and get excited when they have a new video out are: Nicole from The Thread, Mikayla from Stitches in Stem, Tonia from Nerdy Knitting, Bonnie from A Knitter Obsessed, Isabella from Breathing Yarn, and Emily from Emily Knits!
Really enjoyed this, thanks for the suggestions!
Great lineup. You should also check out Young folk knits. She’s so great to listen to and her vibe is awesome!
I'm so glad I found you. I already subscribe to 8 of your top 10 - adding the other 2 now. You do speak quickly, but I"m here for it! Great job and now I need to watch a few of your prior videos as I await the next.
Thanks so much for watching! 😄 I love that this list didn't introduce you to very many new channels but it did introduce you to me 😂
To me, the most UN-ergonomic thing in the world is a continental purl!
Ohhh, maybe I'm off the hook for learning continental after all 😂
Hi Ali! Thank you so, SO much for featuring me in your list of top ten podcasts! I was so touched that you included me and I'm so happy you love my content! 🥰 You're right on the money: producing pattern roundup videos is a LOT of work, but seeing how excited people get when I share a new list of size-inclusive patterns makes it totally worth it! 💖 I'm really excited to return the favour and start watching your content now! xo
Hi Whitney! 😄 My god, the Herculean effort you put into those videos! I am in awe 👏🏻 Thank you so much for watching! 😍
❤❤❤
Thank you for your cut - in. Your usual super chipper podcaster self was definitely a nice break, but it felt real to acknowledge that the cheery vibes might seem off-key. Love those gorgeous chunky stockings! I would knit home decor stuff with that. A pillowcase to toss on a wintry window seat… or knit another stocking and donate it. We’re all going to need to be especially generous and kind now. Our stitches will help keep us sane, I hope.
Ali. Thank you for your edit at the beginning. I am devastated by the election here in the US and so appreciated hearing that from you. Also, thank you for your podcast as well. You have many talents!! ❤
I crochet “english style!” I also struggle with continental and tension so I hold my hood and yarn in the same hand and use the other hand to hold my work. Works wonders for me!
Ridiculous
I strayed out as a crocheter, and as a result I find it much easier to knit continental. I learned to knit with my other hand for colourwork, and I enjoy that now too. But at first it was super difficult . I agree that the crochet and continental style knitting do support each other in terms of yarn tensioning and muscle memory.
Thank you Ali....I have needed so many reprieves this week. Sending love <3
I feel as though the Fix It Fall KAL for me is about noticing how things are not fitting me how I want them to...and instead of trying to just fix that with blocking I'm frogging back and listening to that voice. Although it's very frustrating, but I'd much rather have something that I get more wear out of in the longterm .
So, I've only just got past your cut in, and I wanted to say thank you. It has been a rough week or a lot of us here in the US. There has been an amazing outpouring of support from the international knitting community, and women all over the world to be fair, and I don't think you can have too much of a good thing in that regard. To save my sanity, I didn't watch election news on Tuesday. I watched knitting content while knitting and tried to stay away. I voted. After that, there was nothing I could do, and my watching in mental torment served no one and changed nothing. So I settled into the best calm I could find. Knitting has been saving my sanity for two years now, so it should be no surprise that it (and the community) effectively held me together through this horrific week. So thanks to you and all the other content makers who give us that outlet. It's more than knitting, friend. So. Much. More.
Funny you say that… I just took ergonomic class today with Carson Demers … consider his book knitting comfortably… and fyi I work in medicine and continental knitters have way more injuries and English or throwing has way less…. Any style can be made more ergonomic though….
Hugs, put some bourbon in that tea.
Watch many of the same podcasts. I tried to watch Marissa made but the giggling was too much for me. I must add three of my favs…Laura Penrose, wool needles hands, and Knit all the things.
I’m deep in the despairs and also so. much. freelance. I’m in my “I won’t say no” era for outside work but WHEW. So knitting has just stopped for me, though I’m starting to plan one Christmas project. I have others planned but I think a basic cowl is where I need to be to get my shit together. We love seeing copper!!!
I have a lot of beef with the idea that Continental knitting is “better” or “more ergonomic”; I believe if you have decent posture and take stretching breaks and don’t knit when your body is telling you to take a break, you’ll be fine. Yarn carried with the right hand has been used by professional hand knitters for a really long time (Irish cottage knitting and Shetland knitting being prime examples), so I think we’re fine! It’s supposed to be a hobby, enjoy yourself ❤
I learned to knit continental because it just made more sense to me and that’s how I figured it out when someone tried to teach me the throwing way. My gauge is always too loose so I definitely think it could help!
Thank you for being an ally, Ali. It's been a devastating week here in the US for many of us, and knitting has provided a much needed comfort. Your stockings are so cute and cozy! Keep sending us your cheerful, conscientious knitting content when you're able. 💖 (Ps if you know anyone in Canada looking to adopt a 42 year old knitter from the US, I may be in the market for a new country... 😅😢)
Bistitchual here. I'm a crocheter who cannot figure out continental knitting. Which baffles my continential-knitting SIL. My point being, crochet may still be in your future if you want ❤ Pssst. Bella Coco on YT is a great beginner crochet resource. Love your podcast, as always :)
You could make something for Copper with the leftover yarn?!
Ah, it feels so good to pass formerly-beloved things on to a better home. Digging into the stocking situation, it looks like the designer was asked to make some Christmas designs for a store to give away for free. That store's hosting for all of their pdf patterns seems to be down. Will it return in the future? Unclear. (But the designer didn't intentionally take the design down or anything.) People constantly say to learn to cable without a needle. I think this is nonsense if you're a tight knitter. You don't have the extra slack to move things around without dropping stitches. (Depending on the yarn and how many stitches are crossing, of course.) The thing that helped me with speed was trying different cable needles in different materials and with different levels of pointiness.
