That's so effective. The modified windows are a huge improvement. Thanks so much for sharing! 👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐️

My uncle gave me one of these built and painted for Christmas 1960 together with the set of 2 news stands and platform fencing.

Superb work! It looks spot on in it's new home. Thank you for explaining how you see the internal layout to be, now I can see how it would make sense in reality.
This video has also given me the motivation to pick up the half built one languishing in my projects box, and finish it so that it can finally be put on the railway

Thank you for that. I was more into locomotives and rolling stock. Buildings and structures were my late father's thing. Thanks for the memories.

Reducing the windows to four panes really transforms this model. Previously I have ignored it as one of the worst in the range, but your treatment has helped me see it in a different light.
I have a suspicion that the only reason the station had so many windows is that they needed to increase the parts count, or people would feel cheated!

All the buildings have a lot of windows, notably the thatched cottage, but you can fill some in and use the spare windows on other buildings. Not exactly 'hi-fi but fine for a toy train set as opposed to a model railway and they can be worked up to display standards..

Amazing video. It’s amazing how good an underlooked kit like this can become. Excellent work. Bravo. 👍

Good afternoon Mr train man. What I love about your videos is that you just make then without all the finesse and perfection that I and other modellers try to achieve 🙄 But you techniques are just amazing 🤩👍🏻

Making it up as I go - no finesse here 😂😂😂😂👍

I have two original Airfix kit built ones from the early 1960's! Didn't know that you can still get them. They were brick red plastic then.

Love those old Dapol kits. If you give the kit time & a bit of customisation they turn out well. I've built a fleet of Dapol Presflos that are the same vintage & they've turned out lovely!

The 16T mineral is a personal favourite of mine. I’ve got 10 so far!

I make up toy soldier sets to give away and I have found the Dapol kits very useful. I haven't had much trouble with warping on the kits I have bought (warping is usually because they have been de-moulded too soon). As I mix and match them with home made buildings, and to give them a more 'continental' look I usually sand the outside smooth and apply brick or stone paper. The thatched cottage (clad in stone paper) works well for France and you can fill in some of the windows (there are a lot) with 2mm card so they look visually different. The country inn works as a manor house commandeered for someone's HQ, in my case with some windows filled in and covered in brick paper. The window frames are a bit heavy (these kits were produced for kids train sets in the 1970s) but I re-use the displaced windows on home made buildings. I add removable upper floors supported by internal walls, usually from 2mm greyboard (cheap paper card), and hinge the doors with scraps of thin material. The girder bridge can be widened to make a pretty good road bridge and the various footbridge and signal gantry parts provide some useful 'industrial' bits. For the price they are damned handy kits (much favoured by the makers of the Thunderbirds TV show).

Very nicely done.I looked at this kit, but opted for the ratio 504 (castle cary) Station and canopy. It has finer detail and better manufacturing, so no wall and ceiling warps. Mine is finished in local, warm ham stone colour, but I did another for a friend in dark slate colour. Both are excellent. Random stone colour was done by individual brick high/low lights before applying a unifying wash. However, they are more expensive than the much simpler dapol kit....
I have also assembled two peco country stations (in ham stone and slate) and they are also very good, fine detail.

Also made by Airfix I believe. A technique for painting brick/stone etc. is to first coat in mat black then add other colours on top as a wash. Very realistic finish. If you click on the logo you can see my efforts including a pub disco.

I made that kit in 1967/8 and I don’t think it was new then. If I remember correctly, it came with a set of transfers for the posters. It must have only cost a couple of shillings at the time so £10 seems a lot to me.

A well made tutorial video. I have one of these Airfix booking halls, and it is not warped at all. I think your example must have come out of an extremely hot shop window! This booking hall was originally sold as HO/OO and is quite small and a useful item for those with a small amount of space on the platform. Thanks for uploading.

An informative video - thank you - an excellent job with the window frames too! 👍
Brings back memories of having one on my first layout. Seem to recall it was considered to have a GWR 'feel' but from where was never specifically identified (perhaps somebody might actually know)? 🤔
The kit it is charming enough for me to have kept one back from the sixties - red plastic if my memory is correct! 😄

Very nicely done, in my experience, the older version of the model you can get, the better the moulding. I always try to get them in the Airfix packaging.

I've got one of the Airfix versions of the station building in red plastic. I'm fairly certain the warping comes from the type of plastic used by Dapol. It's a fantastic building though.

tooling showing its age now though as some of the details are not as prominent as they should be 👍

@@Wallsrail That's very true. It's all done it's service. The brake van I built was pretty warped as I remember.

Nice work Nigel. I used one of those kits o provide concourse details for a scratch built lower floor for one of those 70s hornby station kits that were actually pola H0 ones
It's got a look of Norwich

Out of interest, what are the measurements? I feel my one was in the wrong bag, it seems tiny, like N gauge size? Any pointers on doing the lighting? Thought that looked great 👍 shame they don't have any moulds for different types, missing a trick if you ask me.

Susannah modified the Hornby town station building by using embossed brick plasticard instead of Hornbys stick on printed brick / stonework. Even painted in white it was quite a transformation and reminded me of the wills craftsman series. th-cam.com/video/jFtJJV5A00k/w-d-xo.html The Hornby station halt / shelter also looks an intereseting modification proposition and very cheaply available second hand.
