I know a lot of people compliment Sean on his research and questions, but man, when the guest doesn't hear the question or needs it repeating, dude is a pro at repeating the question in as fewer words as possible.

I'm so thankful that a non-toxic interview show exists that is kind and warm and friendly and doesn't fall into the category of "click bait." This has got to be the only interview show that genuinely talks with their guests and smiles abound. thank you everyone for helping make this happen. It is a pure light of entertainment in a world that sorely needs it.

The Graham Norton Show is like that. Its a problem with US talk show hosts. Why they feel its acceptable to talk over their guests and make the interview about themselves, I'll never know.
I think it's interesting how they've harnessed it. The "click bait" is the hot sauce reactions but it allows for a much more mellow and introspective interview.

I love how Hot Ones has become this "You've made it" right of passage. The caliber of guests keeps getting better and better, Sean's interviewing is honed to a precise skill, one of my absolute TH-cam channels.
The irony is that the show works because it doesn't take itself that seriously. The questions do, but the format doesn't. If it ever does, it will lose it's charm.
Sean dubbing Hot Ones as “the most comfortable uncomfortable interview you’ll ever do” is so spot on. He puts people at such ease with his thoughtful, thorough questions even while they are actively sweating in discomfort 😂 Loved this interview with Tessa, probs my favorite from this Thor circuit because it really ran the gamut on her career while she is promoting a movie she really can’t talk about. Well done as always!

What makes Hot Ones and Sean special is that I'm always anticipating the "hot questions", so even though the person being interviewed is not known to me, I'm sure the questions will be interesting enough to keep me hooked
One twist: I really enjoy when Sean's questions are appreciated by his guests.
He's just very engaging with all his questions. An energetic guy with a glib intonation. He's unique and really good at making guests relax and bring out that sense that they are human just like everyone else.

I love how personal he makes it. He removes the big celebrity label and shows us they are humans too. Yes they have fantastic careers and have done so many wonderful things but he sits and chats with them like you would a friend in a coffee shop. I love that. First impression of Tessa Thompson: probably British or somewhere international. Truth: LA born and raised. It's when people who fool me is when I think that "acting" is really where they belong. Tessa is such a chameleon and I really enjoy her movie projects. MVP status forsure!

I know having interviewees with PR training, a format that naturally nudges everything along, and Shawn's 10/10 interviewing skills are a huge part of why it's so good, but this is also some really smooth and wonderful editing.
That doesn't happen by accident. As someone who edits interviews for a living, shout out to some incredible interview editing from the team. Smooth as butter.

3 minutes in and this is my favorite hot ones interview. There’s something about the conversational chemistry between Sean and Tessa that’s so engaging and fun to observe. The flow of their repartee is so organic, (and maybe that’s a testament to Sean being able to connect with anyone) but this interview I found particularly enjoyable.
Best…episode…ever. Tessa is amazing, one of the best parts of Marvel, and can’t wait to see what her production company turns out in years to come.

That might be partially because she is eating chicken nuggets or vegan nuggets instead of wings like most guests. They are easier to eat without touching sauce to lips when taking a bite.

I met Tessa at an event on my college campus. I was the first person there waiting for the event to begin, but was the last to get a photo. She was taking several photos and signing autographs, but then it was time for her to go. The event organizer told her I was the first one there and never got a photo and she smiled and looked at me and said "Of course! I'll take a picture with you!" She is such a genuine human being and spoke with great poise. So far, I've loved everything she's been in. A great talent!

The magic of these interviews is that it really seems to get to the heart of famous persons personality. It shows a more real person than I’m used to seeing. Tessa seems like a genuinely good person, like she could enter a room and everyone would be happier for it, and she has a really infectious laugh.

Ok, I definitely connect with her more than any other guest. I hadn’t really seen many Tessa interviews but I’m just completely into how she delivers her thoughts. Listening to her is brain candy. A person filled to the brim with words and ideas like me would almost pay to converse with someone like Tessa, that’s how good she is. Next-level communicator. Way into that.

@@mimifanet yep, definitely. Although the thing I most notice like I said is just her particular articulation. But that’s an individual thing, of course. I see speaking/thinking styles as being similar to books, writing styles. I can read Dickens, I know that objectively this is outstanding writing but his particular style is not breaking through to me, it’s fighting with me somehow. Then I’ll read Charlotte Brontë and I know this too is outstanding writing, but those pages ring crystal clear to me, that’s my language. For one reason or another. I don’t know, I just always …well… *marvel* when I run into diction which resonates with me.
Sean is sooo well prepared for interviews, it`s amazing. Find me another show where guests say "oooh, that`s a good question" so often.

I love this show so dearly! I’ve watched a handfull of interviews with the stranger things cast these past weeks - and you can tell they get the same questions over and over and over, and they have these micro-expressions of boredom, discomfort, annoyance. Since they’re media trained pro’s they still answer politely and with grace. But then we have shows like this where you see the guests actually relax, and you can see a spark in their eyes when they get questions about small passion projects, old gems, future hopes, favourite snacks - or whatever. It’s so nice to watch!
