It really does seem like a miracle with only one life lost. That the captain made these errors and was the one is also amazing. RIP captain. Thank you for another great presentation.
I see a good deal of whinging about ‘repeats’, and old content, yet no new content creators have stepped forward. I will gratefully watch anything you present, and thank you profoundly for all your hard work.

Well said, I agree completely.
Mentour Pilot
I subscribe to the sites mentioned. I was rather challenging those who criticize this creator, yet have no content of their own. There must be an enormous amount of work in production, and I will ever appreciate it. I have learned a great deal from ‘Mentour’, him being a real pilot with excellent communication skills.
@@Akabei01Mentour pilot is a guy talking into the camera. This is much better, only the information about the event is presented without having to look at someone's face that likes to involve themselves in the presentation.
The aircraft had deviated from the glide path for quite a long period of time. If it escaped the attention of one of the crew it is understandable. I am unable to understand how both the pllots could not notice such a obvious error.
Whoah, That cockpit layout is almost art deco. Even an 8 year old child would be able to understand what works where. This is the most nice cockpit i have seen to this day.
By the way, for those interested with general culture, the patterns on reactors are called "triskell", spirals represents 3 elements : water, air and ground...and it's a celtic symbol, because the region of Nantes and Brest in France is called Britain, and the celtic language is still spoken here...😉

I'm not a pilot but as soon as I would hear 'glide slope' and 'sink rate' while in the clouds and no runway in sight, I'd push the TOGA button and go around.
that's why you are not a pilot

Thanks for the new upload!
What the hell were those guys doing up there? You don't just ignore both a sink rate AND glide slope error with a cloud floor of only 200-300 ft!!
Exactly my thought. It seems that bad weather sometimes just induces madness, it's why I like to fly in decent weather, particularly coming in for landing.
And they drifting off to the left, due to experiencing 20 knots. Not able to capture the locator. What if they had a go around sooner, would they have been able to land safely w/o anyone being injured or passing.
@@kay9549 - And when you are landing, which is the single most important indicator? *AIRSPEED* and they let that drop so low as to make go around impossible. That's unforgiveable.
@D800Lover that's the reason I be not a flight pilot.
@@HoferAdam-xz9xz - That's the reason I be an MSFS 2020 pilot. *_lol_*
How both the Captain and the FO could make such a basic mistake and neither of them notice is quite astonishing to be honest.
And the traffic control didn't usher a word either.
@@julosx ATC is an advisory service, the safety of an aircraft is the sole responsibility of the captain
@@WayneM1961 I wonder if it's SOP for airplanes to go into a holding pattern when they approach this airport because the video didn't even explain why the plane was in a holding pattern.
@@isabellind1292 I think they were told to enter a holding pattern because of the very low cloud cover over the runway making a safe landing risky. It would make no sense at all to have to enter a holding pattern for no good reason, it would for sure not be standard operating procedure.
@@WayneM1961 You're correct because I looked it up after this. They were told to go into a holding pattern because of the deteriorating weather so why did the ATC decide the weather was no longer an issue and gave them clearance to land when the flight crew couldn't see their hand in front of their face and why they attempted to get the plane back up to do a go around and ended up crashing instead?
It's crazy how almost everyone survived such thing. For sure a miracle.
Amen 🙌 🙏🕎✝️✡️🙏🙌
A miracle would’ve been your god to simply “reach down” and correct the flight. It is an “all knowing” god, right?🙄
@@loriw2661 When did I bring up religion in this?
Yep, an all knowing god would just press the approach button.

Nice video mate!
Strange that the airport controllers did not notice that the aircraft was heading for a missed approach
Finally something new and not a reupload
finally a video thats not based on past videos
With all these crashes in IMC conditions, it's truly astounding the lack of basic piloting technique of head down and fly your instruments. Even with the auto pilot off, you fly the keep the lines centered. Both deviations should have been seen and corrected for. To be that far deviated vertically and horizontally, and fly well below MDA without having the airport in sight, the pilot, and copilot, really had to have been checked out and had their heads up their asses, and this is true for a lot of crashes where it's clear when in IMC, even marginal IMC, all they had to do was "fly under the hood" essentially, and everything would have been fine. But nope, they know better, and get people killed. While rare, it is sadly becoming more common for these events to occur as quality of pilot training is being traded for other social efforts, as we've recently seen with United.
How can you not select "approach mode" on approach? 😐
It appears he did but not when in “green needles” associated with tuning the ILS. He selected approach then flipped his nav source from VOR to ILS which in turn would revert the autopilot from approach mode back to HDG/VSI. With the wind drift this caused the left deviation. This is why verifying the FMA is crucial to make sure what you selected is actually happening. I would say pilot error and a significant lack of CRM.
There's a lot of other youtube flight channels but strangely enough and I think I speak for a lot of other folks, this is the only one I bother watching...
Mentor Pilot channel and this one use to be neck and neck but the former moved ahead some time ago. The other channel is hosted by a former pilot along with simulations.
@@hjusnI think mentor pilot is producing really great content. The animation and detailed explanations, which often have more information than the final report, is excellent. Only trouble is they are getting longer so I have to commit time to them but it’s worth it
Mentour Pilot is better.
The channel below does not waste time on useless information like pilots names and the last time they pooped.
Nor does he use abbreviation that only "cool" viewers would understand. Nor are characters
printed but rather narration that moves along much faster.

In 2008 February we landed in Düsseldorf with literally 0 visibility. I have to congratulate those pilots. ❤
Unfortunately the captain died (RIP) but this crash is appalling: it's a misuse of the ILS related automation by pilots who are performing ILS approaches almost every day! As a former pilot I don't really understand.
Btw: funny title of the video. Brest is not exactly the "Heart of Europe", it's even the end of Europe in its West part, at least at that latitude. Brest is in a region called Finistère (litterally: the end of the land) ... The heart of Europe would be around Vienna in Austria (for the EU ...)😉
It seems to me there was some intention behind the pilot's actions, specifically with wanting to get low and under the cloud base early. It seems like this was all intentional until the go around, rather than an accidental misconfiguration. When the go around was called it was too late, by that point they had stopped flying the airplane for a few seconds and it sealed their fate.
air france pilots are just trash!

Maybe the author had real life stuff that took priority. It happens and I imagine these videos take time to create as well.

Love watching your videos when I get home after work! Would love to see an updated PIA 8303, as well as videos on Partnair Flight 394, LOT Flight 5055, and Thai Flight 311!
The flight directors provide information for the pilot to join a desired path with the optimum attitude. Movement of the roll command bar to the left or right requires rolling the aeroplane to the left or right, in order to centre the command bar, and to satisfy the computed command. When centred, the command bar indicates the achievement of the required attitude.
The ILS raw indicator indicates the position of the desired track in relation to your position. Therefore, if the indicator indicates a right deviation, it means that the desired track is right of the aircraft.
In this case, if the flight director shows a left deflection it means that the aircraft needs a slight correction to the left in order to intercept the desired track in the most efficient way. This would be common, for instance, shortly before reaching the desired radial - the flight director will move left so that the aircraft doesn't overshoot the desired track. However, the ILS raw indicator would still show a right deflection.
I think the long crew duty day had a lot to do with not keeping up with the airplane. Also, there is TOO much automation.
Great video - compliments!
Thank you for another informative and interesting video. Keep them coming! 😎🇨🇦😎
I am glad we’re back to new accidents, afraid there might not have been a return. I would personally ask Patreon members for accident ideas if they ever run low. In the future, I would not really consider fuel emergencies ‘accidents’ happening fairly often and not resulting in industry changes.
Thank you so much for all your videos !
My heart hurts for the Captain 💔😭😭
Nice video. The crew here displayed gross incompetence - not understanding how to use their equipment, not being familiar with approaches to the airport and its topography, and therefore unable to appreciate either lateral or vertical deviations from the selected approach pilots should always study and understand where they are going, irrespective of the technology that helps them navigate and land). They also did not know their position with respect to the airport at given points during the flight, so even with repeated audible warnings, they didn't understand they were too low and not lined up with the runway. Finally, they were unfamiliar with the airliner's engines. This was not a modern fighter jet with an engine that can go from an idle setting to Zone 5 afterburner in three seconds. Airliner engines require time to spool up, and there wasn't enough time here. Lastly, crew communication and situational awareness were poor. I am not clear on why you cannot fly an ILS approach without the Approach switch set on the Autopilot. If you tune into the ILS frequency (glideslope, azimuth), can't you just watch the indicators on your display (or on your HUD) and fly the airplane to touchdown? Perhaps I do not understand what is meant by "arming" the ILS. I would be most appreciative of an explanation to help me understand.
Like the original font better than the newer one because it’s easier to read for some people like me. My vision isn’t the best.
You’d think after multiple initial glide slope and sink rate alarms that would be the time to go around and reassess! Especially in low visibility.
finally not a recycled story, keep going, good work this time!
Even if they were using it, forget about CAT III ILS approach...the final call as the PIC is to land when you can see the runway in front of you! The options are to go around and if not possible for a landing is to go to the alternate.
So GLAD that we get to see your great videos again!🥰 Love the music and the written paragraphs telling us what happened on these flights!!
However, even though I know a lot about airplanes, I try and read your sentences on each page, and I feel that I'm not able to read the paragraphs entirely.☹️ The reason? Not enough time to read it!! Goes too fast! I'm trying to read, visualize what is happening on these flights, and I have to continue to go back, go back, and go back to the sentences/paragraphs to understand what's really going on.
Bottom line is, PLEASE allow your readers/members/subscribers to HAVE TIME ENOUGH to read your comments!! I don't remember having this problem in your past videos! And I've been a member of this channel for going on 3 years!!
Thank You!❤

Too many AF Accidents - stopped flying them years back. Basic training inadequate has been cited in some of the incidents like AF447
Saw the wreckage of that aircraft and have flown into that airport many times. It is one of the only place I know of where you can get a 100 foot ceiling and a 30kt crosswind
RIP to the captain though he made a terrible mistake he was only human. While these videos are very good they can't possibly convey all of the circumstances involved in the accident that day. Awesome that everyone else made it out OK. Also kudos to all of the flying crew out there who successfully complete thousands of flights every day and get their passengers to the destination in total safety.
How the hell did everyone except the captain survive this horrific crash? Just google the crash and look at the images. The plane looks absolutely destroyed to bits. There's no body of the airplane. Just bits of burnt debris scattered around. I can't grasp how anyone can survive that.
Amazed at the unprofessional incompetence of some airmen / aircrews. Praying for passengers who put their lives in their hands ... 🤞🙏 ^v^

In glorious slit-vision.
Can't blame that on DEI. Just two very stupid pilots.
The pilot monitoring should have noticed all of the inconsistencies. It was all there visually displayed for both of them as per the glideslope indicators. Both pilots had duplicate flight control displays.
When it's said "you can't fix stupid". Well the pilot in command fixed that, as he inadvertently removed himself from the pilots roster.

How can you not notice you’ve neither captured the localiser nor the glide slope? Both pilots too. I wonder if the Captain lost his life because he was the last to leave the aircraft and the fire impossible for him to get out? I didn’t realise it was so easy to crash in such a catastrophic way. After all it touched down, all they had to do was avoid trees.
@gregg9694ok I take your point. I’m not a pilot (as you may have guessed!)
In my opinion, if this situation were their OPC scenario, probably they would have gone around with the first GPWS alerts.
May the captain rest in peace 🙏
Plane smarter than the captain.
Why did approach did not warn them?
I’d say it’s more than just pilot error. There was no visibility. The plane should have been diverted to a better airport. It’s Europe. There’s plenty.
Did the engines lack power for some reason? Icing reducing lift? Flight crew drinking earlier? Easily avoidable crash.
Why show highlights in preview
The more I watch the less I want to travel by plane. Now the FFA will use DEA to select pilots for the American aircraft pilots.

FFA? DEA?
I didn’t like the sappy sad music at the end. Can you out some electronic music or something upbeat? It will really change the mood of the video. Thanks.
No?
Complicated stuff. I would think ground control would also pickup on this
What is the point of Auto Pilot and all of these warnings? This level of incompetence is enough to put you off flying.
Contributing factors the NM 20 kts wind wind which deflected the aircraft to the left and the cloud base at 100 ft. The pilots could see nothing.
Mah fave channel yesss
Never before seen an accident where the only one who died was the one who caused the accident.
What is wrong with these pilots? Can’t they fly an ILS? Aren’t these two monitoring the ILS? Another example of relying on the autopilot rather than just flying the aircraft.
Look out already.
If the sircraft proceeded to the decision height and not past it, why was the go-around not successful?
the plane was traveling slowly and sinking - adding thrust doesn't mean the plane starts ascending instantly
