This is my EXACT problem with my C6 Z06. I changed the clutch fluid, transmission fluid, aligned and lubed the shifter, all no effect. Can’t wait to try this to see if it fixes my problem!
@@itsreallyjakub I'll probably let you know in a year or two, lol. Loving the car too much right now. Engine's coming out to do a 243 head swap and full exhaust over the winter (I have a minor exhaust leak at my headers and some of the bolts are broken off; typical GM steel bolts). Not camming it because I'm on a budget and want to keep it as a reliable daily/road trip car. Just managed to do the anti-venom mod in my driveway as well as a skip-shift deleete. I got it with a 15/16" 12-point, an impact swivel, and a DCF510 wrench. I probably had a little bit more room in my trans tunnel than your Cobra did but it came out no issue once I found the right way to get my wrench in there
Glad you did this!!! I've had my washers for 2 years, just waiting to get underneath to do it 😂 But I also have the LDC Free Play mod, Fiore FW Adjuster and Quadrant, MGW Shifter which all work great together. Great video and hints.
This is spacing out a detent spring for side to side pressure which does help a TON on all T56 cars. On the Corvettes in particular they also have horrible lower shifter boxes. A company will refurbish your lowe box and it's better than a MGW shifter to reduce slack and wobble in the shifters. It's a must in a C5-C7
Plus mod on the cobra: if you heat up the tri ax shifter lever with a torch and bend the top at the threads towards the driver, you’ll get an extra 1” layback and make shifting way, way better.
Amsoil TQ Drive in the T56 and TR6060 for the Vettes is a great choice for transmission fluid too. Highly recommend. I did this mod but only used one washer, that with a MGW shifter and amsoil fluid was amazin.
Btw the tr6060 in the 08-13 Z06 was still a high effort manual. The problem is how beefed up these have to be to take the tq and the linkages - c5-c7 shifters just always felt crunchy. I solved some of this with a weighted shift knob (not cheap $200) on my C7. That and a redline fluid change made the greatest improvements
Damn your Terminator Cobra is so sexy! Love those Cobra’s so much. Makes me miss my dad’s 2004 Mystichrome Cobra he had. Btw I’m a huge fan of the Straightpipes TH-cam channel and I have a sticker of your guys channel on my car lol. Keep up the great content Jakub!
The T56 is a synchronized gearbox, which means you need to approximate the gears to synchro the speed of gears to allow - smoother - coupling. Synchronized gear have that step small teeth gear to the side of the main bigger teeth. That lock that you overpassed with chims is there to give some time to synchro gears. If you just shove the gears onto gears you might be wearing the tip of the gear toof and that chip might fall into your casing and grind other gears. If you wanna drive like a Honda boy you need a dog box, with straight gears and no synchro toof.
I got my synchros replaced on 1st gear and reverse gear during my clutch replacement. Reverse gear was getting harder to engage (reverse lockout shim bought me more time, at 12yr point) and 1st gear had its hiccups once every quarter. I had the tranny mechanic give me the 1st and reverse synchros/gear. Switching to other gears to engage 1st/Reverse also bought me more time as well.
Vipers don’t have this issue, at least Gen 1 and 2, they got another tail, and the shifter goes there, there’s a plate where the shifter goes in the vettes and mustangs
The Cobra has been perfect. I didn't bother with the Z06. As a local Ontario man, I have put both of them away for winter now lol. Just try one, if you're not satisfied, add another.
@@itsreallyjakubended up tossing in a pro 5.0 and doing 2… it is night and day difference.. in the garage 😂 I’ll see how she is in the spring but big improvement
Disclaimer, if you have a stock shifter this can make it feel sloppy. Id use just one washer instead of 2. This definitely smooths things out but could be too much for some.
Didn’t know this was a thing, even with all my scrolling in the cobra groups. Does this possibly make it easier for it to pop out of gear? Either way, thanks for making this video.
What do you recommend for the 13-14 Shelby gt500s? I have this same issue. Sometimes I miss second gear because of this and it causes me to grind it a bit because it’s not fully sitting in second gear. Same with putting it into reverse
My ZL1 you really have to manhandle it into second or it'll pop out and you look like a moron when you rev to the moon. Wonder if this mod like this helps with the TR-6060 as well.
Bro…you NEED to do better research w/ this stuff before posting vids, I know you’re a legit “car guy” but you seem to lack a lot of the “geeky” knowledge when it comes to some of the most cult classic cars like these 2….the “anti-venom” mod is not needed if you use an MGW shifter w/ the complete lower box, not a steeda, not a hurst, not a b&m, none of that crap- MGW only- once you see the entire kit in person next to the OEM or any other aftermarket, you’ll understand.

I did 2 washers on my C6GS and never looked back, I've had it that way for 2+ years now and no issues. Love it! My transmission is the TR6060 btw.
Same mod on both transmissions!
"Playing with your knob in the garage in one thing". Yeah you're right Jakub. 😂
No judging
Oh man! Going to do this to my 04. I never knew about this or read about about it anywhere. Much appreciated. Can’t wait to try it out
Good luck!
agreed.. a buddy turned me on to this mod for my Cobra.. makes a big difference!!!
hmm very interesting, will have to try this on the viper!
I had a feeling this was normal but I didn't know there was a fix! Well, time to hit Autozone.
I have a 2004 Pontiac GTO with a T56.
Let me know if you ever sell that car 😈
i’m about to flush my trans and diff. will be doing this. 06 GTO
