As a farmer, I use my 20g hushpower more than anything else. Cows don't bat an eyelid when shooting round the yard, walkers don't notice when near a footpath and with subsonic cartridges, pigeons don't even realise they're being shot at!
Until you can make and enforce laws to have your people be safe from being gunned down so easily like they are now, why would you want to make something designed to kill people more quietly easier to get?
It’s an absurd concept here in the US luckily individual efiles are getting approved in days now but trusts still have a wait. Honestly, we just need them over the shelf.
Funnily enough in countries with strict gun laws, suppressors are encouraged even mandated to be used to be mindful of noise pollution and disturbing neighbors and animals.
I have a twenty boar Mossberg hushpower which I bought 7 years ago to using around a large dairy farm, like you say once you get your head around the large barrel its great and quite just right for crows and feral pigeons in the farm yard BUT you would not want to be carrying down the fields so heavy but once in a pigeon hide it again comes into its own so quite.
Quiet. This would be a huge hassle to own in the US because, for some reason, silencers are highly regulated. I guess we wouldn’t want people protecting people’s hearing.
@@liamwinter4512 and if you should misplaced that paperwork or forget and carry that item across state lines, it’s just a few years in federal penitentiary and having all of your firearms confiscated good times
A friend of mine had a fully silenced Laporte 12 bore which he used when decoying crows near houses. He bought it from a shooting school, which had major issues with noise problems.
“People move to the south of England and don’t appreciate guns going off…” Never a truer word spoke! There’s a monthly clay shoot down the hill from me, 1030 till 1400, and it never ceases to amaze me the number of people on the local Facebook groups asking, and then complaining, about the noise. I’ve jokingly “complained” about noisy cows and sheep, and people actually agree. I’d like a moderated shotgun, can see the advantages for working around buildings and livestock, but I know I’d just miss a lot more!
The Ball Trap Club Geneva is an old club, and like so many, once in the country, now more or less in central Geneva, has solved the noise and pollution complaints issue by full barrel silenced guns shooting sub-sonic steel ammo. The guns are modified existing models with the barrels encased in club produced titanium/ graphite tubes just below the standard rib. These modifications are done on many high grade shotguns, Perazzi, Krieghoff, and the like. I have personally shot these guns and the modifications are unnoticeable. Very innovative and probably, all our futures.
Thank you for thus info. Do you know what company did the conversion or have any more details on it? Titanium and carbon seem much nicer that Hushpower from the UK
I’ve been at Grimsthorpe this weekend, weather has been kind but i was hoping to meet you Johnny! I shot well but room for improvement. I shall try Barbury next time. My favourite shooting channel by far All the best!!
I did have a savage arms pump with a massive moderator. Great to use, and with subsonic rounds, very quiet. But not ideal for wandering around and carrying for extended periods as it was bloody heavy.
Hard to believe that a country that is about to ban steak knives and archery equipment has more sense than my 2nd amendment state of sunny kaliforniastan where you’re lawnmower needs to be electric but it’s impossible to put a muffler on your firearm. 🤦🏻♂️👍🏼
As you mentioned and one of the guys below commented, here in Essex - folk do no like noise and apparently .. & I quote "you have to be at least a mile from a horse to shoot a shotgun" well, I never knew that... Just last week one of my members had the Police Helicopter overhead, 4 or 5 police interceptors surround him and he was hancuffed while it was sorted out. They gave him his gun back but forgot to give him his shoot pass back, all because some arse thought the Russians had landed in a field behind their house... OK, I am more familiar than he is with the ground as I have run the shoot there for 37 years but I wish folk realised that if they live adjacent to a farm, there will be shooting from time to time. I demand that all rifle users use Moderators but it is coming that all shotgun users will have to follow suit....😠😡🤬🤬🤬
Thanks Johnny. Couple thoughts, first, it would be nice to see an actual pattern or 2 on an actual pattern board. Second, does the Hushpower or the gun in this video allow for interchangeable chokes. Lastly, is it ammo specific? Can you use plactic shotcups or cork wads? I am in the US so I will probably never see one of these in person, but a guy can hope…
@@Kyle-sr6jm thanks for the thought but adding a foot onto the end of a sporting shotgun is a no go. I know they can be shortened but then they are way louder. And every ounce of the weight comes after the end of the barrel so a 26-28” barrel plus can with balance point at the end of the forend tip

I wonder if a carbon silencer tube would be possible? That or another material, 705 scandium aluminum maybe, even a thin wall high quality stainless tube?
There are silencers for 5.56 rifles made out of titanium that only weigh about 6 US ounces, so presumably it would be not much of a problem for the lower pressures and more complete powder burn of a shotgun.
@@Remington53 That's what made me think of this, cost is probably part of it. Titanium is still pretty expensive, but you definitely get what you pay for. It's amazing stuff.
My biggest concern would be not hearing a dud load going off, the wad stuck in the barrel and the next shot causing a catastrophic barrel failure. Okay, unlikely on factory loads, but it can happen (especially if using reloads or old ammo) Aside from that, shooting over decoys, whistling foxes or kicking rabbits near town, these things would be the absolute ducks guts.
Fabricated one of these out of a single barrel years ago. Came in at 78db. It was laughable with how queit it was. Tried multiple baffle concepts and ended of using a milled block of porous metal.

God knows where it will go, but a bill was introduced recently to remove suppressors from the NFA.
