I'm 36 years old. I was roughly 11 when I first watch this scene. It's still as powerful as it was back then, a gamechanger in the series - great reaction!
Many consider this to be THE biggest turning point in the entire series. Which is saying something, because there are still many more of those yet to come. But Krilin's death at the beginning of King Piccolo's arc marks the biggest tone shift ever.
@@JCGyF That's not because Dragon balls exist that you CAN use them right away, here you have a someone who's ready to murder people that are at the lvl of strenght of Krillin to get the dragon balls, this is a terrible situation. It's not "Yeah we have the Dragon Balls it's ok" no, it's not just a regular human as Upa's father who died here, that's someone as strong as Krillin that's very ominous and baleful, it will not be easy at all.
@@JCGyF And it's kind of obvious, like all shonen or even all adventure story ends up with the hero eventually winning, but then what, noboy should feel sadness for Krillin's death because how it's predictable how it will ends ? If it's so predictable noboy should put any investment in to that, but yet people do it. Put yourself in the shoes of people who firstly discover dragon ball in manga when released, nobody knew if Goku would succeed or not, and that's because of all those twists and turns by Toryama that people loved Dragon Ball.
18:43 The spanish latin version of this moment just destroyed me. I kept asking my dad and brother what just happened, and they just told me what Goku said. I couldn't believe it. I cried a whole day as a kid for Krillin because... That was not something I expected would happen in Dragon ball. Especially how Goku just says it... It haunted and filled me with rage
yeah this has nothing to do with nationalism, but latin version is peak dragon ball, only show that i rather have our spanish version than the original, and some actors in the english version also nailed it pretty nice like vegeta and piccolo, but it lacks a bit of emotion overall specially with the drama parts.
Imagine watching that last scene at 9-10 years old... oh boy. After the impact was over, I just tried to ponder "who, and why?" it didn't occur to me at the time, but Krillin just saved Goku's life. Thanks for sharing your reaction, Suzy.
I was looking forward to seeing your reaction to the end of this episode. It’s one of the saddest, and shocking, moments in the series, and had such a great buildup with Goku having a bad feeling and suddenly running to go after Krillin. Congratulations. You’ve made it to the first *major* death in Dragon Ball(Bora’s doesn’t count because Goku barely knew him compared to Krillin, who he’s known for years).
@@Steve-up4jq Oda’s recollection was it was announced by a classmate of his at school. The words his classmate said was “Krillin died!” then he read the chapter afterwards
While it's upsetting that Goku lost, Tien needed this win more. This did more for his personal growth and change than it would have for Goku. It kind of solidifies the path Roshi saw for him and I love that they convey it so well
Now that you've gotten this far, it's fine to say that Tenshinhan is one of the coolest dudes in the franchise to me. And Krillin's death truly was one of the most saddening moments in the series.
It's nice to see a reaction that feels genuinely real and reminds me of my own experience so many years ago when I first watched and fell in love with dragon ball
Even though the final scenes in this episode may seem really dark and maybe almost unwatchable for some, there may be something of value to take from all of it. These scenes and other scenes like these (whether in this show or other shows) can be a reminder of how quickly things can change from one moment to the next. Therefore, it's important to never take anything or anyone for granted, especially not family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, classmates, and etcetera. I think it is a great idea to try to always have an appreciation for that which is important in life, and to try to show kindness and communicate nice things often to people, because each opportunity to do so could be the last. Sorry Suzy that the end of this episode was the way it was. Sometimes after people watch things like that, they decide to take a moment to take a break emotionally. For the end of this episode, a lot of people may have chosen to do that.
Ah... here it is the one episode that motivated my whole binge on your Playlist. One of the best sagas EVER starting out as the saddest in dragonball I think the word you're thinking is distraught😢
This episode strikes a perfect balance between a moment of great joy with the final result of the tournament and a moment of great sadness with Kuririn's death.
I remember when this episode first aired on Toonami. It was on a New Year’s Eve of ‘02. A very heartbreaking one and also certified Goku and Krillin as best friends.
As one arc ends, the next one immediately starts. I would like to once again request that you watch some of the Dragon Ball movies. I strongly recommend that you watch whatever movies for the original Dragon Ball (Curse of the Blood Rubies, Sleeping Princess in Devil's Castle, Mystical Adventure, and Path to Power) that you're interested in at the end of the next arc before going any further in the series. At the very least, you should watch Path to Power, as it's a beautiful movie that offers a fun look back at some of the earlier arcs.
I know, that in Anime, characters have amazing feats. But this was just crazy. Imagine how strong and sturdy both must be. They jump several hundret meters into the sky only to fall the whole way down into the city and Goku hits a Truck at full speed. In real life, both should've been dead and have every bone in their body crushed
When you said you are reaching the end of the tournament I had to rewrite my comment two times, because you might have been spoiled to something bad happening, so in the end I went with "it's an emotional end". I knew you'd cry, this part always gets me too.
From here on begins arguably the greatest chain of arcs in shonen history. Even transcending Dragon Ball classic. King Piccolo arc --> 23rd World Tournament --> The Saiyan Invasion --> Planet Namek --> Cell saga. Hell, you can easily include the 22nd Tournament in that chain, every single one of these arcs are solid gold.
I remember, they used the china joke in Ed, Edd n Eddy "Wow, china!! Just like in the cartoons" Also this is it, we made it. I gotta say the entire build up to that scene was superb, Goku had that bad feeling the moment Krillin took off. And it still hits hard after all these years, poor Krillin, man.
Suzy Lu deserves the Oscar for this even though she wasn't acting. Also might be a good idea get close to a box of tissues as this is just the beginning of tragedies😅
I can remember precisely where I was when I first read this chapter. I couldn't believe it, that was so brutal, after they enjoyment from this tournament. I think the whole Piccolo Daimao arc is peak Dragon Ball
And so we get to the end of the first stuff I saw of the Animated version of the franchise ^_^ and this is where the intro changes in the Japanese version. I could not believe when Krillin died. Them actually killing a main character like that is a shock that was unmatched.
I saved my comment after watching episode 100. Congrats. And yes what you thought previously, in the beginning. Thats how this episode ends. And a new sage continue's. Goku's purpose this sage is obvious. I thought Goku would win vs Tien, the first time.
This episode wrecked me as a child lol! But believe it or not, the most distressful episode in all of the series for me is yet to come! I mean, to be fair, I cannot deny this episode destroys you no matter how many times you watch the series, while the one I'm referring to only truly worked the first time it ever aired. Nevertheless, I _cannot_ WAIT for you to experience it!
Krillin's death... Man, it certainly hurts like the first time. This was like super fun and then this happened and changed the game. Maybe one of the most important moments of the entire franchise.
Hmm, anybody else noticed a tonal shift? This is why I stick to OG Mobile Suit Gundam.. If half the human population perished within a month, you better tell it in the intro even before the main character is introduced.
When I first saw this episode that whole interaction with krillin and goku I knew something was wrong but I couldn’t place it. Then when i saw krillin had died I felt debated
The anime version of this scene is wild to me as someone that's only experienced OG Dragon ball through the manga. Like, they REALLY prime you for something bad to happen to Krillin in this.
