  • We do a follow up video from the Mecum Kissimmee 2024 video we posted last week and feature a car a bunch of people asked us about. This car was saved out of a wrecking yard in Ontario and while it was a good restorations a lot of sheet metal was replaced on it. The car got $264k at Mecum and is a record for an A12 car. It featured the Floral Top (Mod Top in Plymouth speak) which always brings good money but this one went crazy.
We also add some important context on the 71 Plymouth Duster we featured last week that sold for $159,500 at Mecum. We learned a bit more about the car and we wanted to clarify what the seller actually got for the car. Remember when the big auctions post what price it sold for it is plus the juice. The hammer price is 10% below what you see.
Stay tuned next week for our 2024 Barrett Jackson Scottsdale wrap up!

Great short videos on both cars . I’ve been a long time fan of the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals and have been taking cars there for years and have been a floor judge for 4 years. I had the opportunity to see the Duster there and at Kissimmee and was on the judging team when the A12 invitational appeared. Darrin and his team did a remarkable job on the Dodge and Mancini has always been top dog as well . Both cars had their flaws . The Dodge had no original drivetrain and hardly any surviving sheet metal but the quality of the restoration was impeccable. The history was well documented and the original owner was reunited with the car to complete the story. Mopar Collector Guide had a 4 page story. NOS parts though out and even the Floral Top material was from a factory roll! The Plymouth was especially nice with all the inspection marks , NOS parts and the chrome and plating could not be beat. The car however had a few added options but made it more of a striking impression. These two cars were by far some of the nicest car to ever be offered at an auction.

Did the A12 still have a fender tag documenting a floral top? Normally I don't think a color justifies a price premium, except for the Mopar HIP colors cause they are so much a part of cars identity and kinda set a trend for the industry. And the floral top, well, thats just crazy and deserves the attention.

I keep wondering what a 1968 XP29H charger would go for in auction. Hoping to catch one of those auctions. Last year I think a 1969 base model charger that was blue, black top and I can’t remember interior color, they added a BB stipe went for $117,000. Think it was a Mecum acution.

Interesting to think of how much these cars are worth today. My 69 Dart, 68 Superbee even in less than pristine shape would sell today for far more than I got for them. The old saw hind sight is always 20/20 has never more true than in the classic muscle car context.

I had commented over on Moparts that the seller took a 120k bath on this one if the restoration cost 250k plus the price of the car.

This is why so many of us HATE buyers premiums. Mecum double dips and and that reduces return to the seller.

The A12 Superbee is very cool especially with the floral top, but damn that is crazy money! To me it's unfortunate that a lot of these cars are being priced way out of a lot of people's reach. And it is also driving up the prices on "less desirable" cars. It makes me wonder what my 69 Dart Swinger 340 (all numbers matching) is worth. It's nowhere near as nice as the 71 Duster, but it's still pretty nice. I really don't want to sell it, but it would be interesting to see what it would bring.
