For the “He just ate my hair!” line, I love how Caleb sounds more annoyed about it than disturbed. Like it was more so an inconvenience on the same level as someone cutting in line 😂.
I don’t know if the remaster had a different voice director, but with the new voice actor, sometimes he gets his line deliveries just fine, other times it sounds like he’s reading directly from the script. With Rick Gomez, he made Zack sound so genuine and earnest. He’s still the best voice for Zack hands down.
every other character sounds good, the new va is just shit, has nothing to do with the Director. He probably didn't have enough time with this idiot because he just doesn't know how to voice the character.
Considering the last ff7 compilation game was 7 remake, and this is closely emulating the original CC to the point of animation limitations, I would not be surprised if this was made to train new hires, even the VA’s
If they wanted a more nasal Zack, they should've hired Fran Drescher. Seriously though, the difference in quality of the emotion in the voice acting between the two versions is so big. Rick Gomez rocked as Zack.
I think I just figured it out, the new VA sounds like he reads most lines as ending with a period. Every question or exclamation sounds like a declaration. It's not even that his voice is awful, though it's still definitely a step down from the original. There's just no character in what he's saying, I can literally see him reading the script as he's saying the lines. It felt like a performance for Rick, while feeling like a paycheck for Caleb.
Yeah Cloud was way more emotional in Crisis Core then in FF7 he's like borderline silent protagonist vibes. I'm glad the FF7R makes him feel less dead inside because it has voice acting
He's totally screwed up by the time final fantasy 7 begins. The events of Crisis Core basically break him and turn him into a husk living someone else's life (Zack)
To me, while I can enjoy and appreciate what the new VA gives, he kinda sounds like the main character of an R-rated comedy film compared to the hard, grittier version of the original. I can't quite put my finger on it, but that's the best way I can describe it.
He just does not sound cool at all. as a middle schooler playing this game on my psp Zack was an all around likable character, Rick’s performance really brought him to life, this guy just doesn’t have any soul in his voice acting
So like old genesis sounds like a theatre kid while new genesis sounds like a pompus rich kid, both are aannoying but in different ways Old Angeal sounds like a text to speech program new angeal sounds like that cool uncle Old Zack sounds like he's from the world he is in, new Zack sounds like they took one take and went with it every time
He doesn't sound too bad in all those scenes. But Rick Gomez did an amazing job, its hard to live upto. The issue is as well, there are ALOT of pepole who work on these teams for voice acting, it's not just him, he had to audition, they had to do multiple takes, there are multiple people there listening in. So idk if they're all on meth or something. cause 7R voice direction and actors were all really good.

Zack's original voice was so better than in the remake. "Original" Zack has so much more emotion and character just because his voice actor is so great! And his line: "That's not even funny, man" is so much funnier on the PSP.
If they kept Rick Gomez this game would have been everything I would have ever wanted, but they ripped out the one thing that mattered most to me. Hoping that someone will mod the game to allow for the use of Rick Gomez's voice lines.
I feel the same. My heart is broken. Maybe that sounds stupid, because it's just a game, but then again maybe it's more than just a game and Zack is far more than just some pixels to us
Gomez's Zack had so much emotion and he definitely made the character. Pierce's Zack sounds like they retcon'd everything people loved about Gomez's Zack and made him too stoic which doesn't suit the scenes, character, and makes the voiceover feel flat.
"Thats not even funny man" dude zack RULES All the crazy ass tetsuya nomura dialogue and zack is the straight man goung "MAN WHAT IN THE HELL IS GOING ON"
RIP Gomez' voice acting. Am not a fan of this new voice actor at all. Original Zack felt like a master voice actor that I'll never forget, and he made the other cheesier characters like Angeal and Genesis not stick out so much just because of how amazing his performance was. Now, since they're all kind of off, I've been thinking about switching over to the Japanese audio.
It's funny because I see people complaining about the new VA for Zack but I think they wanted him to sound more innocent and nice kind of like Goku from dbz but the problem is Americans always prefer deeper voices where as Japanese usually go for the more innocent lighter voices for their protagonists
Ive never played the OG crisis core but I love the performance of every single clip I’ve seen of the OG game. It’s one of those video game performances that I’m confident you can get a feel for the character just from the performance alone. In this case, from the OG clips, I’ve been able to pretty much tell that Zack is an upbeat, optimistic protag. He’s confident but not cocky. He’s pretty much cool without trying and he can say lines like “Me? Gongaga!” With a straight face and I’d half buy it. The other half, I’m laughing. The new guy… again. I haven’t played the OG Crisis Core but… this just doesn’t feel like how Zack is supposed to be. Correct me if I’m wrong. He’s saying all the things Zack said in the OG in all these clips but… still. I just ain’t feeling it…
Its because new zack is more nasal. His voice is also slightly higher pitched. I didnt think it would matter but honestly the delivery and voice in the original for zack so much better that it is worth adding a mod.
I get that we all try to find our voice but man dude could hardly hit the mark more often then when he actually hit it on certain scenes which was rare. In the end we were given all knew voice actors for characters and at least everyone from Remake hit the mark. But I’m disappointed that Zack, (who I actually favor more then Cloud as a FFVII character) didn’t hit the lottery in the new VA department the way the new Cloud did.
I've said this but I'll say it again, Crisis Core OG English VA are the best and I wish they would keep it for all the FF7 franchise (like in the Japanese original :( ). Zack's, Cloud's Sephiroth's and most of all, Genesis' VA delivered the best English dubbed I have ever come across
The guy who voices Zack in the original played George Luz in Band of Brothers--an airborne trooper who had a funny scene involving impersonating a superior officer with his voice.
Its amazing how the old VA delivers the awkward/cringe dialogue because it sounds so natural that the new VA made me realise how awkward some of these lines are 😂 That being said, I think the new VA did a good job voice older Zack, its a hit/miss with the young version but he did what he could
Part of what makes the original "Gongaga" so iconic is how it peaks just a lil. Obviously that's not intentional so it's unfortunately missing in the new one.
I honestly think it might be the voice direction of reunion that maybe doesn't let the new VA shine as much. So many deliveries are borderline 1 for 1 with the og. After playing Reunion, there were a lot of parts where I thought the new VA was good with his Zack voice. And others that took me out of the experience and made me good "Eh... Could be better..." Another issue could be that the new VA isn't really much a VA by trade. For my understanding they are more of an actor actor. I hope if Zack is more of a hand in the Rebirth that not being pigeon holed with deliveries that he can show off more good Zack voice and dialogue. Cuz I thought he did great in the Yuffie dlc at the end.
Yeah this is something I don't understand about the new dub. Gets new actors, tells them to attempt to imitate the PSP performance. Occasionally something is slightly different like the hair eating line but... They really should have rewrote the script to be less awkward and let the actors give their own performance.
@@kybosh4253 I think going for the one for one performance was more or less Square's ways of saying that that unlike FF7 remake, that this is more of an updated version of Crisis Core. Cuz the ending says Continued in FF7 and not continued in FF7 Remake. They seem to like communicating story elements in meta ways like that. Plus who's says the New VAs won't pop up in some other places in the future game of Rebirth or whatever comes after.
I actually like both of voice actors, sure everyone has a preference. I think there is times where one of the actors does preform better then the other in some scenes with their delivery. I did want to add that zack’s voice in reunion does match his character but his VA lacks a bit of conviction with the way he says his lines
I feel so bad for the new Zack voice actor because it's like the coughing baby vs the hydrogen bomb, he didn't stand a chance against Rick Gomez (not because he's bad, it's just that Rick is that good (and there's a strong bias after so many years with Rick))
Not to mention the script is awkward as hell to begin with. There’s nothing _wrong_ with his line delivery when the lines are… like _that._ It’s just that we have absolute dynamite to compare it to and on top of that nostalgia is a hell of a drug

It’s like Rick watched the cutscenes, but Caleb didn’t…
Exactly
1000% percent. The new VA doesn't seem to know anything about the character or the setting.
Hard disagree. New voice actor is 10000% better. Old one sucked.
@@ryanolson356 The old one had more emotion throughout what he said, the new one tries but fails on it
@@ryanolson356 You’re a joke.

the "angeaaal" scream from reunion was...... i dont even know how to say what it was.
Reading words off a page lol
The punch 👊🏽 at the end tho 🤣 🤣 🤣
I think I just figured it out, the new VA sounds like he reads most lines as ending with a period. Every question or exclamation sounds like a declaration. It's not even that his voice is awful, though it's still definitely a step down from the original. There's just no character in what he's saying, I can literally see him reading the script as he's saying the lines. It felt like a performance for Rick, while feeling like a paycheck for Caleb.
U can have a good voice but horrible at acting or you can be an incredible actor with a horrible voice lol
bingo 💯
1:24 Sorry, I'm new to FF. Someone tell me that isn't just Dante
Cloud actually laughed when Zack told him where he’s from. I played Crisis Core a long time ago but I’m so used to Cloud’s anti-social-ness from FF7R
Yeah Cloud was way more emotional in Crisis Core then in FF7 he's like borderline silent protagonist vibes. I'm glad the FF7R makes him feel less dead inside because it has voice acting
@@leaxl08 I mean, he had plenty of reasons to not act emotional, especially during the early portions.
He's totally screwed up by the time final fantasy 7 begins. The events of Crisis Core basically break him and turn him into a husk living someone else's life (Zack)
Ill never forget his “Lets mosey” like from the original
@@travisrees8939 that's not really what happens. FF7 Cloud and CC Cloud aren't even the same person to some degree.

@cicopathYeah, Caleb's voice for Zack in Rebirth is really good. In Crisis Core Reunion, the lines were weird cause of his delivery.
1:51 I don’t think I’ve had that good of a laugh in a while.
This entire video was great, but that just got me man
To me, while I can enjoy and appreciate what the new VA gives, he kinda sounds like the main character of an R-rated comedy film compared to the hard, grittier version of the original. I can't quite put my finger on it, but that's the best way I can describe it.
The gritty made Zack sound like a protagonist and added to his charm. He’s a goof but he’s a STRONG goof. Lol
He just does not sound cool at all. as a middle schooler playing this game on my psp Zack was an all around likable character, Rick’s performance really brought him to life, this guy just doesn’t have any soul in his voice acting
I only just put two and two together, but Zack’s original VA Rick Gomez was also George Luz in HBO’s Band of Brothers
If the audio, ain't peaking, then it ain't meme worthy
The new Zack VA straight up sounds like a videogame youtuber lol
So like old genesis sounds like a theatre kid while new genesis sounds like a pompus rich kid, both are aannoying but in different ways
Old Angeal sounds like a text to speech program new angeal sounds like that cool uncle

What even happened, everyones voices were near perfect and then... theres Zack
Yeah, literally the one character they couldn't mess up. The MAIN character. C'mon man.

Gomez's Zack had so much emotion and he definitely made the character. Pierce's Zack sounds like they retcon'd everything people loved about Gomez's Zack and made him too stoic which doesn't suit the scenes, character, and makes the voiceover feel flat.
I'm more amazed how Genesis's new voice actor sounds almost exactly like the old one (at least in this clip).

It's when the new va calls out to Angeal for me...
I just thought, little kid lmao
It's funny because I see people complaining about the new VA for Zack but I think they wanted him to sound more innocent and nice kind of like Goku from dbz but the problem is Americans always prefer deeper voices where as Japanese usually go for the more innocent lighter voices for their protagonists
og gongaga sounded like a frat boy with a heart of gold while in the remake he sounds like a nerd 😭
New Zack sounds like he's slightly choking on his tongue.
The Reunion “That’s not even funny man” is actually funnier I think. The way he delivers it sounds like he’s asking “are you high?” 😂
Zacks new voice is some Shenmue type shit.
this is exactly why im playing FF7R and CCR in JPN dub, because they kept the original VAs there.
Except Cloud’s VA cheated on his wife and is probably cancelled now 😬Doubt he’ll be in part 3

I like his Reunion voice more because it reflects his puppy-like personality, which everyone keeps saying he has
Ive never played the OG crisis core but I love the performance of every single clip I’ve seen of the OG game.
Me : dont fix what ain't broke
Square Enix : broke what should not be fixed
I came in playing Reunion as my first time ever hearing Zack and I had no problems with his VA
new VA does sound like "Zack the puppy"
The memes of the original will never be forgotten from the minds of the Law.
Reunion Zack sounds so much more nasaly and nerdy
"Dash nut evun funny myan 🤓"
I might be the only one that doesn't mind the new voice actor. At least there's a mod to turn it back but it's missing all the new lines
Reunion Zack's "Me? Gongaga." isn't even good enough to make a Vinesauce joke out of.
The guy who voices Zack in the original played George Luz in Band of Brothers--an airborne trooper who had a funny scene involving impersonating a superior officer with his voice.
Its amazing how the old VA delivers the awkward/cringe dialogue because it sounds so natural that the new VA made me realise how awkward some of these lines are 😂
That being said, I think the new VA did a good job voice older Zack, its a hit/miss with the young version but he did what he could
Despite horrible scripts, ya, the old one can tell is acting
It’s CringeKino in a way
Part of what makes the original "Gongaga" so iconic is how it peaks just a lil.
Sometimes the new VA sounds like what stereotypical English Anime VAs sound like
Zack is the funniest character I have ever heard and the way his voice actor in reunion said all the remake meme line just top-tier
I feel so bad for the new Zack voice actor because it's like the coughing baby vs the hydrogen bomb, he didn't stand a chance against Rick Gomez (not because he's bad, it's just that Rick is that good (and there's a strong bias after so many years with Rick))
holy fuck that’s the best way to put it
Not to mention the script is awkward as hell to begin with. There’s nothing _wrong_ with his line delivery when the lines are… like _that._ It’s just that we have absolute dynamite to compare it to and on top of that nostalgia is a hell of a drug
Same with Sephiroth. Except I don't feel bad lol
zack lines sound so funny like he is a normal dude around edgy boys
"He sounds like a kid" yes. Zack is 16 years old. He's a kid.
