The only problem with the grip for the pokeball controller is the only reason to use that controller is because it looks like a pokeball and thus help with immersion, that grip however makes it no longer look like a pokeball. Just my 2 cents.

It’s ok but honestly kinda dumb. Just for different colors is dumb to unscrew the grips, eventually they could weaken and or strip and then your controller will basically fall apart, where as you could just buy a silicon grip.
For people really wanting a dpad, i would suggest just getting a Hori joycon. The real only downside is that you can only use it in handheld mode, which really isn't a big deal unless you were planning to use it with a joycon grip or something. The shell exchange is a decent option, but it does take some actual work and has been known to frustrate people. That and the hori dpad just feels WAY better. The shell exchange doesn't change the fact that it's just a dpad atop four buttons more or less. The hori feels like a more natural dpad. You should 100% get hori if you want it for fighting games. Circular commands are much tougher on a shell exchanged dpad.

The best gamecube controller option hands down for me on the wireless side is the PowerA gamecube contoller. Has all the buttons you need for games and feels exactly like a classic gamecube one minus analog triggers.

Its also worth mentioning that the joycon toolkit makes it possible to change the display color of your joycons and pro controller.

Tbh, I like the buttons better than the d-pad. D-pads sometimes mistake inputs because the buttons are connected. The joy-con buttons don't do that.
