@@GameMakerEnginehahaha too late I'm already using gamemaker. Soon, I will make my own world and I shall rule that world hahaha (joke). I do enjoy using gamemaker it's a great engine and it's been getting major upgrades too. which is awesome.
Can't try GM out, in the middle of a project, but next game jam I could give it a shot. I always confused it with the Unity Game Maker, never realized it was its own engine.
you're amazing, i know this might seem cheesy but as a girl in tech who also wants to get into game development, there's nothing that motivates me more than seeing other women rocking it :)
Platformers are my favorite so I had to check it out. I got it running on my Steam Deck and it's very fun and challenging. Excellent work for a 30 day project!
Thank you Sam for the encouragement that if we put enough effort and dedication to it, we can actually carry a game project from start to finish. :) Your videos are the best!
Amazing! I'm pretty sure it'll take me 30 days to learn a new engine let alone make a game and publish it. Even if by some miracle I did make a game in a new engine for 30 days, it'd take me another 30 days to recover from the stress 😂 I'll play Bumbi this weekend. It's gonna be fun
Nice work on the game, and on a tight deadline! I think getting something up on steam is a great experience to have under your belt. So next one you already have everything setup and you kinda know what to expect with approval/ capsule images/ store page etc.
Yep, doing a 3d project in godot, I intend to get it done sooner or later, a friend may or may not join in so I spent a good chunk of the last few days cleaning up the code base, killing bugs and handling... errors that are not errors... Seriously GODOT throws so many exceptions and warnings... I get it delta is not being used... Today I FINALLY GOT THE ANIMATOR TO WORK...The fact is Godots Animation Player is putrid for me, mainly because they do not share a visual debug like Unity did so it is absolutely painful. Still I got it to work swimmingly with my code base... So my e friend does stuff, says he's like 8 out of 10 gonna do game dev but has to make time, I'm desperate now if only to have someone to work with on this project that I can sort of work with like a co-worker. It's not even about the project but more about bouncing ideas off someone who can speak in the same jargon. Regardless the project is coming along now and the animation feels good, so when he joins (if) it will be in a good place... hopefully,
I wish you all the success. You clearly have the skills to create and stick to it and also doing it for a long time. Everyone's time comes eventually and hopefully this will be your stepping stone to better things in the future.
As a fellow GMS2 Dev, I'm currently working on a game and I'm only 7 days into it, and I take way too long to make progress, I can't even image making one in 30 DAYS. Insane, gg.
That sure as hell is a lot of work for such a short time, especially with a new engine and those curveballs thrown at you. Ill pick this up day one on steam sure sure.
What? You did this in 30 days, with video and all? You have skills! I do this for years (the developing in GM, no videos, as a hobby, and just recently in full time) I don't think I ever was able to progress this fast.
Hahaha, I love this! I am on this very journey! It's not a 1 month journey, though. 😅 month two already. I had a huge laugh at your slopes portion because I felt that exact pain! I tried probably five separate times before I finally got it to work. I think I tried move and collide twice but could never get it. I am at the point of trying to figure out how to rotate the sprite based on the slope angle :) Love the video! Your humor is top notch
Thanks you! I calculate the slope with raycasts then change the image angle, I also reset the image_angle each frame because I found it messes with my calculations.
@samyam I've been battling this for two nights, haha. I was wondering, did you cast multiple rays at different heights and then compare the two to create an angle?
Great video! I'm also making a game in a similar deadline 😅 it's a memory card game using Unity, and yeah, a lot of work and small details I didn't expect to deal with. If you ever need cute 3D little characters I would love to help 😁
Me: I think I could make a 2D virtual world. Should be easy. Also me: has 0 experience, BUT I can draw like, a little bit. Sorta. LOL But seriously great video. Inspiring!
Can't wait to get the Linux version once it hits Steam. (... this is not a complaint, more than 90 percent of the market is Windows; so do that first...) If you get the Linux version to work with a SteamDeck, a double bonus!
I wish there were better, higher requirements to list games on Steam. Because of stuff like this is why 15k games are being uploaded to Steam every year compared to 4k 4 years ago. This cluttering of the platform makes it really difficult for great indi games to have a fair shot on release. At this point, one could make a business just offering to promote games. Since that's the key factor that'll make the game find success. Stop making games and be a publisher and help great indi games be seen amongst the thousands and thousands of disposable, low effort games taking space on the platform.
Making games on MacBook !?? What ???? Plus there is only one game engine Unreal Engine 5 Game changing with motion matching technology, human creation and nanite etc… No other engine can even get close
You aren't trying to make money making games, you are trying to make money making TH-cam videos. Here is my bet. You will make 10x as much money on the sponsorship from gamemaker than you will make on sales of this game. Nothing wrong with this at all, but be more honest.
@checkedshorts she said the video is sponsored by gamemaker. if you want to make a game in 30 days and see how much money you can make, do you really start off with a video about the basics of a new game engine you are learning for the first time? Or do you use a game engine you have used for 5 years and have been a teacher with? This video is all about the sponsorship and nothing to do with the title.
I’m actively working on the game and going to publish this to Steam so…. Why can’t I use a new engine to make a game? It was also really easy to learn. And yes I need to pay my rent should I not be accepting any sponsorships and just not make any videos?? 🤨 I’m not sure what you expect out of creators but you shouldn’t judge so easily.
@@samyamyou changed the title of your video. I have no problem at all with creators making money through sponsorships, but your original title was dishonest and you know it, which is why you changed it.
Game Maker was actually the first game engine I played around with...10?...14? years ago 🥲 Feeling pretty inspired to jump back in after all my experience gained working in Unity after all these years...but time is always so limited on the day to day... 😞 Anyway, nice job pulling through and completing your game! It's not as hard as it looks. Look for Shaun Spalding's tutorials. In the series about Action RPG, chapter 48. He explains it quite well ;)

How do we improve our gamemaker knowledge
Did you switch from PC to a laptop? + Did you switch to Godot?
Still PC just stopped working for a bit. No,I am just using what’s most convenient in the moment for the project

How much did you make
I decided to make a game in 30 days and sell it and withing that time also write a game engine for that game... xd

I have made games with Unity before just not Gamemaker, I taught myself everything.
