    Thanks Roland, very helpful -note to anybody else attempting this, jack the diff up high and place axle stands ahead of the axle on the frame. Then lower the diff and you will have a lot more room to work. A cheap slide hammer with right attachments makes removing the bad bearing a whole lot easier for sure. Wish all a whole lot of fun Jeep motoring! Thanks again Roland

    Thank you very much for taking the time to video your efforts to replace the rear bearing. I go into the process much more aware and ready for what is in store for me.

      You're welcome. Get a good bearing puller. It'll make a world of difference.

    Amazing work with one hand. Autozone will allow you to borrow tools. I'm making a list of tools as we speak. Sorry you had to struggle so that I wouldn't. Also, I saw another video where the guy would reinsert that pin after pulling out each axle so that the spider gears wouldn't fall out like they did on you. Saved him alot of time at the end. Again, thanks! Very informative.

      Yes it's Rodney. You make a really good effort to get good shots of the guts of your projects. Seems like the viewers are under the car with you. You need an apprentice. All that knowledge needs a younger body to implement the action. Did your boys learn mechanics from you?

      Be sure and get a good look at the axle's bearing surface. If you replace the bearing but have a bad axle then the noise will stay.

    Thanks for the help but you could also use a crow bar to get the bearing out but it has to be a heavy duty crowbar made for demolition got the bearing right out I did have the tool for the job technically but the bearings are just really big that the bearing puller set I got didn’t fit 😆but with persistence you can fix anything

    I bought 2004 jeep liberty 4wd. It has a 76miles on it. When I hit 55 rpms It make a humming sound in the rear differential. Does it need a new one? Or can I have the pinion bearing replaced?

    • @RolandCaston
      @RolandCaston  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The pinion bearing is replaceable. However, it does require disassembly of the rear end.

    Don't put wheel grease on gear lubed bearings. Put only gear lube on them. The grease can lube starve them.

    You can tell by the clean filler plug, the lazy owner never changed the fluid of the differential ever. That will F all things inside the diffe.

      Good thing metal and lubricant quality has improved since the 60s

    • @CFITOMAHAWK2
      @CFITOMAHAWK2 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RolandCaston Not so much. You still have to change that diff oil every 15k miles because it has no filters. And some has to be changed at every oil changes. But most dont. My last 2 rear wheel drive trucks, i got them cheaper by telling the owner that bump on the rear end will cost over 1,500 dollars to repair. They though i could not notice it. I repair diffs.

    A slide hammer would've removed wheel bearings and seals in 10 seconds or less. He made the job way more difficult than necessary. If you dont own a slide hammer common auto stores rent them out. You get a full 100% refund after returning.
