Making a 16th century style Cassetta frame

- This type of late 16th century frame that we are making in this video has its origin in Siena, Italy.
It is a very basic type of a Cassetta frame consisting of a plain backframe with added sight and outer mouldings on the front.
The lack of carving is well compensated by the illusion created by the gilding and painted decorations on the mouldings. The frieze was usually decorated with painted decor and sometimes added carved ornaments in the corners and in the middle of the frieze.
In this case I made the Latin inscriptions to connect the frame to the antique hand coloured print of the City of Jerusalem. The text referes to the Religious and political attitudes towards the Holy City at the time.
The text reads;
Urbs Sancta (The Holy City)
In Hoc Signo Vinces (In this sign you will conquer)
Surrounding the text on each side is a hand painted arabic infuenced pattern to further connect the frame to the City map and its region and the ornamental influences brought to europe from the middle east at the time.

Beautiful but the video would have been so much better if it had a subtitled explanation of techniques and materials used and the reasons why they were used.
очень здорово:) !
fantastica
Precioso
Beautiful frame. What did you use to make the worm holes?
Maravilhoso...
adoro !
Finfint! vad är det för typ av färg du målar med direkt på guldet?
FUCKING LOVE IT!!!!!
What kind of paints do you use? I noticed you place the in old maramalade containers.
Beautiful, love the detail! What happened to the blue paint though? Painted over with another color or something else?
The blue is tape that has been put over the painted wood to protect it while the raised parts next to it are gilded
Did you use rabbit skin glue or modern gold size?
❤
All is wonderful, I also want to learn such work. How can you help me?

price?
i don't understand, why did you stain the wood, then cover it up with white paint, then cover the white paint with gold?
Not a stain, it is a sealer to fill in the porosity existed naturally in the wood. Then primer (white color) to make the gold paper stick firmly to the wooden frame.
I don't think its primer, I think it is gesso
I see, I just didn't think stickers need a primer
You apply gesso on gold leaf, but it's ok to put on imitation leaf, the more experience you get the better right?
tree carving manually
Every gilder I have ever known was extremely careful with the excess gold leaf and saved the larger "scrap" bits to reuse due to the high cost of gold. As cavalier as he is with the leaf, I suspect that is not real gold leaf but rather imitation.
I imagine he has a very large scrap bin.
It is fake gold. Gold leaf is manufactured in 8x8 cm size, is much thinner and cannot be lifted by hand.
Por favor alguien me puede decir si lo que usa es oro fino? Con qué tipo de materiales trabaja en el marco
Mil gracias
Se puede bruñir es decir sacarle brillo al oro con la tecnica que usted utiliza?
And here I thought I had patience.
Cómo se llama la música?
The print cost $49.95. The frame cost $10,000.
why have you used metalleaf instead of real gold?
The gold leaf is probably real gold. That's why gold leaf is expensive to buy.
You can buy it in different grades of gold I think.
Looks expensive.
I don't believe it🧐
