@@AlmostSomething You’re welcome😇. I checked out the description and comments and noted a distinct lack of time stamps, and suddenly it felt like I had a mission.
@@AlmostSomething I wish you the best in all your endeavors- you have a comfy, relatable style that is witty without being smug or contrived - this may seem like a weird comparison but so often it gives me a Dick Cavett vibe - old school casual sophistication.
I know it's super late but if you want to do a follow up video, could you cover MegaMan Battle Network? It's its own genre to the point where people don't have a collectively agreed upon TERM for the genre of game it is apart from "like MegaMan Battle Network"
@@AlmostSomething There was a legacy collection released for Switch, PS4, and Steam, it broke sales records for a reason. Word of advice start on #3 it’s INCREDIBLE and you don’t lose out on much story. Play the games in the order of 3, 2, 5 6. We do NOT speak of #4 and #1 reeks of first game in a series-itis.
Super interesting topic and good research. Obviously there are so many more games to talk about, such as the first first person shooter. The things is, some games might be the first in the genre, but they weren't those that popularized it. Good example is DOOM. With this topic I would always list two games, one which is the first and another which popularized it. Usually these are two different games. Hope you do more of this video topic.
Just want to give a shout out to Alone in the Dark, which was one of the very first survival horror games in the fixed-camera 3D characters+pre-rendered format that we now associate almost entirely with Resident Evil. Although Sweet Home came first, I feel like Alone in the Dark is the game that really gave us modern survival horror as we all know it today. It even got a recent game in the series too. :) Also, I'd like to mention Super Mario Kart while I'm here too, as that basically created the entire kart racing genre (is that considered a genre, or something else). :)
I was expecting to see Souls Likes here but I guess Demon Souls isn't old enough for this video. Good vid anyways. Edit: I guess Kings Feild is technically the first souls like but at the same time not really
I'm surprised you didn't mention the first 3D space sim, Elite (1984).
Your channel is criminally underrated! These mini docs are better than most TV productions!
I remember a small German 2D MMORPG Iplayed in the early 00s but started like 96 or 97 in a primitive free to play game.

Interesting video that is underappreciated

Not even close survival horror goes as far back as the 80 with games like ax 2
@@jsmith3946 " in the fixed-camera 3D characters+pre-rendered [backgrounds] format"?
@@inceptional did see that part ops
I pissed away so many hours on this game as a kid of the 80's.

You're right. That would have been an easy inclusion. For another video!
