      Next week mate! And sounds good thanks, I also had a thunder bolt of a ball right at the crack spot on the bat where you repaired I had a look at the edge there was zero damage after impact so the repair was strong, so once again amazing job and fantastic repair.

    I've got a Crack starting at the toe and going up the back of the bat do I just fill in super glue in fine parts and pva in the bigger openings on the toe? Lots of cracks on the side some vertical. It has been repaired before with 3 dowels. But it's a favorite bat I'd like to keep using . Cheers 🍻

    Great video Marc 👍🏽
    Enjoyable & informative to watch. I am thinking about my bat & how it may need a few minor touch-ups at the end of the season. Mostly around the a few vertical cracks on the face that opened up after about 5hrs when I knocked her in, so I was particularly intregued when you added the superglue to the face & then sanded.
    Question though.
    For the repair why did you choose a bat wax over a linseed oil option on the face?
    Was it to save time or do you have a general preference for a bat wax over oil?
    Cheers,
    Michael

    • @CricketBatInfo
      @CricketBatInfo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The scuff-sheet will not stick to a freshly oiled bat . The bees wax in bat wax compounds sets tacky and allows the scuff-sheet to bond real well to the face.

    • @CricketBatInfo
      @CricketBatInfo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used to have notes on the facebook page that included the instructions to make your own bat wax. I generally use oil for knocking and wax for maintaining and weathersealing.

      @@CricketBatInfo cheers Marc, I thought that may have been the case.
      I'm not looking forward to removing my full fibretec facing as I've done it once already, & it's a messy job getting it off the bat carefully & then removing all the glue left behind.
      Am deciding once I give the willow a tidy-up whether I'll give it the 2 x oil treatment (as per your knocking vids) or just sand & bat wax.
      I guess I'll decide once the sheet off but the middle of the bat in an absolute beast so I want to really look after it & maintain it's current performance.

    • @CricketBatInfo
      @CricketBatInfo  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its a difficult one. The other reason i use the bat wax is is has only a small amount of linseed oil. Maybe 50% or a few drops as you don’t need much wax to do all the exposed willow. Pinky fingernail is about all.
      Oil and glues don’t work with each-other , hence why you don’t oil the splice, so if your doing repairs its not going to cause issues.

    Great video, thanks for making...is that normal clear sticky tape used to wrap repair?...can it pull grain off when removed?

    • @CricketBatInfo
      @CricketBatInfo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Normal clear stretchy packing tape. Once the glue dries it will hold to wood not tape. Also your pulling across the grain, not up or down. You can use a hairdryer to loosen tape if you’re concerned.

    Hey mate, what grade sandpaper did you use to sand the bat becuz my bat has minor cracks on the face

    • @CricketBatInfo
      @CricketBatInfo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Grits - 40-80 is for removal of wood. 120-180 will sand back a little but not as deep. 240 -320 will generally remove the sanding lines and smooth. You can go 400 - 600 if you want a really smooth finish. Sand up and down along the grain , across left to right, circular and then finish up and down. Don’t apply too much pressure. Look up, polishing sanding for tips on getting a really smooth finish.
      Also do any glueing or repairs before you sand. Last thing you want is to lift grains

    The toe of my bat has cracked and it's a big crack. Do you recommend Titebond or an Epoxy glue to fill and clamp the crack?

  • @abhirammandavilli5802
    @abhirammandavilli5802 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video Marc! I have one question.
    My bat has a crack on the edge which creeps into the face horizontally, a couple of inches below the splice. Now, I understand the methods to fill up the crack would be the same, but I was wondering how to clamp the bat, since the crack is horizontal and not vertical?

    • @CricketBatInfo
      @CricketBatInfo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Difficult to say without seeing it, but if its horizontal on the back of the bat just below the splice that’s generally the beginning of the end as the crack will travel diagonally through the bat from the side on angle.

    • @abhirammandavilli5802
      @abhirammandavilli5802 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CricketBatInfo the crack is not the back, it’s on the front side. Starts on the side(edge) then creeps on to the front and horizontally across the front for 3-4 inches.
      Also by, “Beginning of the end”, you mean the end of the bat? 😢

    • @CricketBatInfo

      Scruff alone may not stop the crack progressing. You need to glue and clamp to set the repair.

    • @CricketBatInfo

      Superglue is great for minor surface cracks or areas you cannot reach, but it has no give, for deep cracks id go a quality outdoor PVA like titebond as you can clamp it and it is a stronger bond for wood.
