    I kept hearing a kitten cry it sounded like. I looked along the tracks, all around my block looking for the lost kitty. I found out today it was the Grey Catbird that was making all the noise. I used the Merlin app for birds to find out and that's how I did. Lol

      Same for me! In fact I was searching for which bird sounded like a kitten because I've been hearing a loud, raspy kitten cry and its making me uneasy! I don't know if I should go looking for a cat or not! We have a lot of woods and brush around our house and part of me is concerned that maybe someone dumped a litter of kittens here:( But I seriously doubt that if it was a kitten, that they would have survived a whole week without food and water. Still, it sounds JUST LIKE a very young, hungry kitten:(

      @@simplywicked True, but after awhile, the rhythm of their 'cry' becomes predictable and familiar and you can distinguish between it being a bird or a kitten.

    We have a group at our house that sounds like a ringing cell phone. It's the most curious thing. I've actually seen the bird making the sound and watched it do so. I keep wanting to answer that bird, because it just keeps on ringing and ringing!

    I have a friend with a pizza shop in Pennsylvania and one employee started leaving cheese out for a bird a decade ago. That same bird, a gray catbird, comes back every single year and sits outside the door sqwaucking until someone leaves cheese for it. It will literally fly in the back door of the restaurant in order to get our attention if it wants fed. Craziest thing

  • @MissMolly3377

    It’s my favorite bird. I have a few around my home, we sit and talk to each other. When it meows, I meow back, and he or she has gotten so used to me doing it, it will keep doing it, really fast, over and over until I answer it. I love my cat birds, so much. If I do it with a certain inflection, it will do it the same way. It has become my evening ritual. 😂

    In hind sight I think I've heard the "angry squirrel" call many times, having failed to sight the angry squirrel and noting the indifference of my terrier hunting companion who's job was to circle the "squirrel" around to my side of the tree. Also, though I have no idea if this is actually the case, I've been led to believe they communicate a "password" to their eggs, if they don't respond correctly they push the egg out whether it is no viable or a brood parasite.

    I have a grey catbird somewhere in my backyard yelling out the meow call, but in two syllables to where it sounds like he's screaming, "EWWIE....EWWIE" over and over again. I spent the last FIVE HOURS googling things and downloading apps trying to track down what bird makes that call, but, even though I was able to figure it out, I still haven't found a single recording that captures his specific style of meow. I finally spotted him in the shrubs outside my window earlier-- oh my god, he's back. I promise I love and appreciate him, but god, I swear he goes on for hours every single morning now that spring has finally set in where I am, and I just.... i can feel the cortisol building up in my body.

      I heard an extremely strange bird call the other day, it almost reminded me of the sound of a rain stick, it would make that noise two times, sort of up, then two times down in a lower key, all I could think was ch-ch ha-ha..from Friday the 13th. I haven’t been able to find out what bird it was. It was coming from the area that my cat birds often sit in, so I wonder if it was them? I wish I could hear it again. It was strange and beautiful, at the same time.

      Yeah, the first time I ever saw one, he was sitting on the edge of my birdbath imitating the mating call of a house wren. I had some wrens living above my bedroom window, so that he'd have picked that up was understandable under the circumstances.

    Is there any difference between the gray catbirds that migrate and the ones that stay put? Any idea why some stay put and some migrate? Also, is it the same individuals who stay put each year and the ones that migrate, or is it just that each year, some of the migrate and some stay put, but not necessarily the same individuals? Does that make sense?
    Definitely loved that you included the calls toward the end! I wouldn't be in favor that being a regular feature (for those animals that have calls, anyway - not sure how that would work for cephalopods!).

    • @AnimalFactFiles
      @AnimalFactFiles  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I feel like when I was reading it was more about a location thing. I know some birds stay put certain years they haven't had enough to eat to be able to make the journey or due to age. So there can be lots of factors!
      I love including the calls when we can but it can be difficult to find available sound clips of many animals. We try when we can!

    They should be called the Gray Squirrelbird. I'm very familiar with this Thrasher and their typical call sounds much more like the typical warning call of a Gray Squirrel.

    • @AnimalFactFiles

    I was searching more about this bird because it keeps eating my succulents right out of my greenhouse. It also pecks at ripe tomatos in the garden. Its an aggressive bird, assuming it is protecting its nests, it will make that obnoxious call at you until you are out of sight. Sometimes it will even follow you for a bit until you walk away from its space. They live within the bamboo brush that borders my yard here in NJ. I wish I could get rid of them.. We have plenty of bird feeders, a lake nearby.. Why do they keep eating my succulents? They are not even nutritious! Cries.... They rip their leaves to bits. They especially love to pick them by their roots right out of their propogation trays. They're just awful birds!!!! Great video however I wish you told me how to rid of them 😅🤣🐦

    • @squirtleyujeong
      @squirtleyujeong 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jackiesicilian5720 I have since read more info about it, and it turns out that succulent leaves are mostly water, so birds and other critters sadly enjoy them for a quick snack 🥺 I can't display them in the open outside without wildlife messing with them. And the cat birds, still! Lol.. I keep them in the basement with indoor lighting set up, and now that it is warmer I keep them in the outdoor gazebo ☺️🐦
