I like how Ken always involves Mary in conversations. These two are my faves. Thanks to them, my husband and I are on a journey to pay off our mortgage early.
I've been a fan of this couple for a while. May they be an example of prosperity in hundreds with immigrant parents, OR NOT. Congratulations, both of you!!!!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Great interview. Loved they were able to speak freely without constant interruptions. Very inspiring. I actually watched them last week on a program called ‘Rich Holiday, Poor Holiday’ and was interested to find out more about them. Thank you for this. Great couple. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾❤
That is true. The mortgage free process becomes a lot easier when you can increase your income. The other lever you can pull is decreasing your expenses, but you can only decrease so much without impacting your quality of life. So that begs the question ... how can I bring in some extra money to become mortgage free faster? 1. Get a raise at work 2. Work overtime 3. Sell stuff around your house you don't need but has value 4. Side Hustle 5. Support or encourage your spouse on the things mentioned above What else would you add to this list?
@@estelaniealexandremsw4966 he made a gamble but it paid off. The alternative was to be tied to a corporate job for the remainder of his adult life and taking away time from his children and grandchildren.
I am 44yo single guy living in London, have only £22K remaining balance which i am planning to pay off within a year. To be mortgage free asap i have cancelled all holidays for a year. Once i am mortgage free and save £10K i might give up corporate banking work in the city and work part time.
Thank you so much for sharing your experiences! My partner and I have been working on this goal as well to pay off our mortgage of almost the same amount as quickly as possible despite low interest rate. We realized that every humble penny in saved another humble penny in interest! Even if we invested more in the market there would be taxes on gains so we’ve been throwing as much at it outside a safe emergency fund~ You are all so inspirational!
Fair play to this couple! Very difficult to achieve. They may have been financially better off in the long run investing all that money but they have the emotional security of a paid off home. I hope they go on to enjoy their money more as it seems they scrimped a fair bit to get there!
A key thing that was discussed in this conversation was he was a CFO. They invested plenty which is also why he was on with stepping down as CFO & assisting with running their business and not getting a different job.
Wonderful couple, Mary and Ken exude Joy and I can see why they chose the title of their book! They brought up a great argument of paying off home first over investments being a way to mitigate risk. Really has me thinking about my first home purchase in the next year. Ie. First home investment @3-5% down for a year vs forever home and crush the mortgage to experience that joy and mitigate risk sooner. Thank you for an awesome interview🙏
Dude… they’re both CFOs in London… don’t let their demeanour fool you, they’re making “money money” 😂. Compared to my current earnings I’d pay off my house in 5 years if I and my partner were on that level of income.

At a certain level your pay is no longer physical cash (as HMRC with eat it all) but now includes stock options. Add that to being an “influencer” in the finance space and you have yourself the setup for paying off mortgage in 7years. The literally said “we lived on one person’s income”…. That’s at least 30k (minimum wage) of disposable income a year. Not hating on his grind, just saying people shouldn’t feel they’re behind in life cause they ain’t paid off their mortgage in 10years…
So they paid off their mortgage because he was super rich with a massive income. How is it helpful to pretend this is something other people can do? Normal people don't have access to that level of income.
Everyone has different income levels for sure! I believe Ken and Mary's story is inspiring nonetheless. Here's a couple that paid off their mortgage early making less than $50,000 per year: th-cam.com/video/7JjMNET_V1M/w-d-xo.htmlsi=FnlKVpfsk11hAU36
Yeah most people would be better off overpaying on their mortgage to the point that they'd be mortgage free by retirement and invest the rest. He was almost certainly getting investments from work anyway
It's quite important to call BS on this gaslighting! Funny he never mentions his total income, just preaches the message as if anyone can go and be a CFO tomorrow and pay off £475k in 7 years.
One of the main things you’re missing is that he completed an mba in there, and then probably was promoted. He wasn’t making CFO money the entire time. They started their marriage with the end in mind and didn’t do lifestyle creep. Spending $65 a week in groceries is a sacrifice - I’d say even more if he’s “rich.” Lets not negate someone’s hard work and discipline. They put themselves (they had all odds stacked against them) in a better place. ❤

They are open, honest, and have incredible detail to contribute to the mortgage-free community!
It was an honor to learn from them.
The bank was not celebrating your mortgage pay off...no more interest payments/free lunch!
Yay! great to see the humble penny on here!
Ken and Mary are showing us the path to Financial Joy!
The fact that he held or holds such financially lucrative job, it is much easier to reach this mortgage free position compared to general population.

That's awesome! How old are they now vs when they paid off mortgage
They are mid-30's. They paid off their mortgage within the last year or so.

How much is the average income? Is it up to £100k?
