One of the most underrated rock drummers of all time. Mr. Densmore was extraordinarily unique, to the point where all of his drum grooves are instantly identifiable. He almost took a "poetry and jazz" approach by accenting Jim's poignant words or Ray's cadences. The Doors music created a vortex of sound that allowed John to be a Jazz drummer in a Rock band essentially. I hope John is forever studied among the likes of Bonham, Ginger Baker, Mitch Mitchell, and Ringo. Though none of those rockers in the '60s and '70s were on the techinical level of Jim Gordon, Hal Blaine, or Jim Keltner, they sold out shows and created a new generation of musicians.

John was deeply influenced by Hero Jazz drummer Elvin Jones and also did drumming poetry while his friend Michael C. Ford was reciting drum poems at the Hen House Studios.
Ray also blended his piano with Michael's poetry.
By the way I want to add that I was a friend of Ginger Baker ( Peter Edward Baker) ,who I had the honor of meeting him in Madrid in the summer of 1983.
