I've been really stumped and frustrated with my ESAB welder for this exact reason. Doing sheet metal repairs with lots of tack welds and from one second to the next it will alternate between perfect flat puddles to boogered up piles with seemingly nothing different. Checked grounds, gas, cleanliness, everything. Today I began suspecting it was an issue in the torch itself even though it doesn't have much use on it. Definitely checking this ASAP. Thanks for the tip!

Ever since I changed mine, it has worked flawlessly! I know Tweco makes some good stuff but that 180 is complete garbage!

@@OldBarkerRanch1981 Just to follow up, I took the torch apart and sure enough there was a large charred spot inside of it where the set screw holds it together. The current goes through that connection so it was arcing out apparently. Cleaned it all up and tightened it with some thread lock and the problem is solved!

Thats awesome!! I thought about using adhesive lined heat shrink but I worried about the twisting still messing with it.. Honestly I like the Yeswelder lead better anyway. It has been flawless and I have run 5 11Lb spools of wire through it since. Should be changing to my 6th tomorrow. Glad I at least got ya pointed in the right direction!

Thank you for making this!! Iam going to check this first thing tomorrow. I replaced my first 180 due to it being 4 years old and a funky trigger. It never had a gas flow issue. Never had an issue with the new one until recently… been on the phone with tech and just wasted Ton of my time. Can you do a test for me? Disengage the feed roller, turn off the gas and pull the trigger… does the gas solioid time out after a couple seconds? The tech says it shouldn’t but looking around others are reporting the same issue… like that machine knows there isn’t current flow so it kicks off the gas??

Mine does turn the solenoid off after a few seconds of no arc. I noticed it when feeding new wire to the gun. After a few seconds it will turn off the gas solenoid and wire speed to full.

Not sure what a sick problem is?

Seems like that was my problem… I think my fix is permanent… I cleaned the parts well twisted it back up where the tube is supposed to be and used adhesive shrink tube to seal it up. Haven’t had gas flow cut out yet…
