I have your brush set and LOVE the cats tongue brush. I use it a lot when I'm doing wet on wet and contrast detailing and want intense bursts of color but want to keep them under control. I find that the hold just enough water to add some color and have it bleed into the wet colors already on the page beautifuly with out having a risk of it taking over or adding too much water. A damp cats tongue is also great for blending harsh lines. It fills a niche I didn't even know needed filled!

Yes I have a 1/2” inch cat’s tongue brush that I have not used yet. Being a large one my bristles are not as stiff as yours. Thanks for sharing this wonderful informational video.

Today I made someone a birthday card with two watercolor flowers. I used the cat's head brush for the little dots in the center and the dagger brushes for the petals and leaves. Tomorrow I will go over these exercises.

Great video! Thanks! I've never used one of these before, but bought a cat's tongue brush (my art store seems to call it a "pointed filbert" so I hope it's the same) on the strength of this video. I'm looking forward to doing all the drills and trying a small painting later today. 😊🎨

I really liked your video on using this brush. I went out and bought it at a local art store, $17CDN. I don't normally spend this much for a paintbrush, but it is a professional-grade brush.
PS I am in an art class re-starting in September.

I have essential tremors too, it is a challenge. When I was worried about my squiggles when making a straight line, I was told that was my style
I have never used a cat's tongue prior to owning your set. However, I have previously used Filbert brushes. I just figured it was the same... But then, as soon as I saw the fine line you could get with this brush, I was all for it!!!

My cat's tongue brush is a size 10, it came in a set of brushes and hasn't been used lol I think I need to buy a smaller one and play.

One of these came in a brush set I just bought. I've used brush tip markers before and tried same techniques and WOW new favourite brush.

After seeing what the dagger can do if see decent one going to try it but at first & still mine do not look like leaves but having fun!

Kristy, I just have to share my joy with having my new brushset! About one year ago I read that artists many hundreds of years ago made and crafted their own brushes. This gave me an idea! I am a retired hair dresser and used my cutting expertise on one of my flat brushes!.It was very stiff and not nearly as flexible as yours but I must admit that I got some very fun and different affects! it was something like a dragons tongue! Since then I decided to purchase your brushes and I am having a ball! So far I'm just Experamening and playing and using up my Daniel Smith paints but what the hey! Thank you for making them available and I watch your vids religiously! Love your philosophy! Much love and luck with your success!
I've been practicing with your cat tongue. It takes a bit of practice, but I've found it definitely is part of my common use brushes! It's the dagger that really gives me heartburn.... Lol. But I'll keep running drills and practicing! I see you use your dagger more than just about any other brush.

I have 2 catstongues but never used them.. now I’m inspired to go and use them… exercise..exercise… everytime I see a lesson from you I want to go and paint.. But I find that I am scared to begin sometime… because I think it sucks what I make.. excuse my language ..

LOVE my 3 cattail brushes. I have a 1 in., 1/2 in. and a #4 which is great for detail, as it holds pigment/water while it comes to a fine point. Something I don’t get with a rigger or #1 or 0. Thanks for posting!

I am enjoying this so much Kristy. I have a question, what do you do to get your pallette to hold paint?? I just bought a new pallette but it's so smooth the paint, when mixing doesn't hold??
I like to use a magic sponge. Not too hard as to cause any visible abrasions :)
I think I have a Cat's Tongue Watercolor Brush, it's cool but I haven't done all that much with it, save use it to fill in certain sized spaces and a few flowers, it seems to do alright for that.

I’m brand new to the cats tongue brush and I love it. It can do so much I have a 1/2 inch and a 1 but I’d love to try a smaller brush. Is the one in you set smaller?
Yes my cat's tongue is slightly less than 1/4 inch at the widest part :)

I've been struggling with figuring out how you do different strokes with your flowers and leaves, and which brush is best for which kinds of strokes. The dagger brush in your set is my favorite so far - it is SO versatile! Will you be doing brush drill tutorials for the wash brush, the round brush, and the filbert brush too? The wash brush in particular is giving me a hard time 😅

I am so excited that you are teaching us how to use this brush. I didn't know that I had one until tonight. I have a brush I don't remember buying and having a hard time using it cuz I didn't know how. Now I am excited to practice what you've shared with us. I bought your paints and I love them. But I think I'm not using them properly. I've almost used them up and I have only had them one month. I know that they have to last longer, what am I doing wrong? I do paint with them almost everyday. Again thank you for showing us how to have joy in our painting.
They rewet easily and become very easy to lead a brush heavily so you may be applying the pigment more heavily than needed :)
@@KristyRice I'm probably going to be your best repeat customer. I really do love these things. I'm a struggling on whether I want to buy the brushes or get another set of the paint. Will they be coming out in full pants? And will you be adding more colors eventually?

And I recently bought a Silver brand cats tongue that’s wonderful and a triangular brush that I haven’t even really used yet. And I’ve seen it myself…muscle memory is so important in training your hand to just make all the most common shapes so easily….especially for those beautiful flowers that we all love! Thanks so much!

I am left handed and struggle with following techniques any hints to help with this
Add a little quarter twist et the end of the stroke I describe :) like just twist the brush slightly between your fingers as you finish the stroke. Usually helps!!
