Very glad I’m not in a SunRun state, I’m just going to inlet the bed’s 30A outlet into my panel (with interlock) as if it were an emergency generator… not enough for my whole house at once, but plenty in an emergency outage and about 1/10th the cost.

I plan on doing the same. But do know that if you do this there are some challenges with tripping the truck's GFCI given the neutral-ground bond in the truck. There are both safe and unsafe ways to get around this, but you'd need to do more than just backfeed a breaker in your main panel with an interlock on the mains. The same challenge exists with the present F150 Hybrid with ProPower OnBoard.

@@billjohnson3344 Agreed, if you're not an electrician you may have that problem, depending on the panel that you're trying to power with your vehicle. Vehicles ground fault trips because the vehicles neutral is bonded to its ground just like your main service panel. Connect your truck to a sub panel where the neutral should not be bonded to the ground and everything should work fine. The 240-30 amp receptacle is capable of 7.2 kw so it'll power quite a bit. In my case it's much simpler because my home runs on solar, and will be using the 7.2 kw to power my inverter/chargers that will charge my batteries. I do have the grid as my backup, with an 11 kw propane generator backing that up consequently when I get my lightning, it will become my first backup because when the sun returns I'll charge my lightning from my solar system. I will have to degrade the 80 amp pro charger if I want to connect it to my solar system, because it won't handle 19 kw load. I'll most likely install that on my grid 200 amp main panel.

great update and hopefully sunrun will come around... our first estimates for install were kind of expensive, delayed and not communicated well... I understand the fact that we already had solar in our system (microinverters) really complicated things along with the distance between the garage and service drop... we are moving to a new house and have actually already had our electrician install the charger there and it is great... taking a beat or two to be able to consider the next steps on storage and backup and solar at this place. I really am curious about the alternative options outside of the ford/sunrun ecosystem that might be happening... I get the feeling there is going to be some sort of more generic structure created here but I don't think we are there yet.
Also I will say I powered a space heater, our fridge, coffee and cooktop with lights for 5 days in this last 2023 ice storm in central texas.... and it was practically silent. One note is that UPS devices don't like running on the built in inverter on the truck... I believe the Sunrun system doesn't have that issue but have not been able to discover or test it. The power built into the truck without the sunrun system and just using extension cords is like using a generator at a work site...functional but not convenient... but hey....it saved our day and we didn't have to move to a hotel for 5 days.
buying this truck was a difficult choice but I am overall so far pretty darn happy. I won't be going back.15k miles so far and going strong

Awesome video man, I did hours of research on this Home Integration system and he covered a bunch of the stuff I learned from all that time in just a few minutes. Not sure if supply is going to be a major issue in getting the back up system, but right now SunRun is telling me the Home integration System I ordered won’t ship until November! Originally at time of order it said May 10, then with email confirmation it changed to Sep. 02. Then 3 days later it’s moved to November 1st. Hopefully this is a mistake.

Quite a costly home backup system. $4000 for home integration system, quite a complicated installation because that system has a large inverter powered by the vehicle's 400 vdc battery and a built in transfer switch to prevent back feeding the grid. I'd hate to think what installation will cost. Possibly another $4000+

Great video - super informative and actually showing the real stuff. One point about solar and energy storage. On the State-of-Charge channel, it is mentioned that the system will integrate with certain solar setups - as was mentioned here. But a bummer was that, during a power outage, the solar could not charge the truck battery - it would only be used during sun hours to reduce the draw on the battery. By chance was that topic covered during your demo?

Love the work Ford is doing to move the planet forward but a couple things to note about bi-directional charging. 1.) The standards are still in progress, so this is a proprietary solution and likely won't work with any other vendor. 2.) The inverter being used does indeed have multiple MTTP inputs for solar but with most states adopting NEC2017 or later it does not meet safety requirements around module level rapid shutdown without adding another component to the solar array (i.e. optimizers). It would work with something like a ground mount, but not an inhabited building.

Check out the State-of-Charge channel, where Tom Moloughney goes into far more details and also gives pricing info. But even there it will not give you ""EVerything" you need to know about it"
Also it was sad to see in this post a Ford rep, telling people they should buy it to make money via electric pricing arbitrage. Which has too many flaws, for it to ever happen in the real world. Thankfully Ford is marketing it as a way to get backup power during an outage, which is great. But there are far simpler and cheaper options to do that with the Lightning. Such as using the 240v receptacle in its bed and adding one of the simple plug in options to your home. (That has been used in the past to have a generator power a home)

I want to import it to EU, do you know more about dual charger? is it 2x 40A? so if I connect it into 3phase (2phase) (each charger each phase with ccs2/type2 convert) Can I charge it in full power at home (with 2x 50A breaker?) in residential homes 3x63A is usually max breakers

@@carlpassby8404 sorry, dont remember - but check MUNROLIVE with F150 title (they made tour in factory and they mentioned about it
In theory dual 32A will work bcoz each charger will get own phase - problem can be with software - comunication terminal will get info from evse/cable it is only 32A cabable so this can be limited to 1x32A only
for example old teslas S/X has 72A 1phase charging but inside its 3x 24A - so in USA 1x72A but after you mod to ccs/type2 you get 3x24A on AC
solution for this - get original 1phase charger from ford - but with 80A you have to get 100A breaker

The problem is that partner that Ford has chosen is completely unresponsive. With the limited release of the EV's, there is no way they are overwhelmed with installations. I gave up waiting for a call after 6 months and I'm having a local electrician install it next week.

I had considered time of use but in my are it only dropped it 3 cents if I only used it during off peak hours. That was worth the headache of ensuring I don't use electricity during peak because that's where they gouge you about 10 cents more than Normal costs per kWh. The saving aren't as great as you might think. Here's the real downside , ford will be monitoring this kind of battery use and of course this will reduce the life of your battery using it as a home backup. Eventually I'm sure they'll have to do something about that.

E.V vehicles are not going to replace gas vehicles any time soon. I am for green energy but the technology is just not there yet. Politicians are pushing for E.V. and solar power/wind energy and we don't have the technology to replace fossil fuels Politicians are going to subsidies the E.V dealers and manufacturing to go electric Give the consumer discounts and all that. To me, it's going to be another government con job.

The extended battery is a $20,000 option on the low end model. The big charger he was talking about will cost $7,000 to $10,000 to install with permits. What’s worst is that dealerships are in fact charging $50,000 to $100,000 over retail price for the truck. Just check autotrader for yourself. This makes the Ford Lightening the worst EV truck ever made. If you are willing to pay 100K for a strip down base model help yourself. If you are lucky enough to get the truck without a markup you will soon realize the 230 mile truck will require charging every other day. At 230 miles you’ll depletion the battery and it will take a long time ti charge back up to 90 percent. Public charging stations are expensive compared to charging at home. It may be free for a while but after that all bets are off. You will have to change your lifestyle for sure meaning plan on hanging out somewhere for a least an hour if you depleted the battery and have to use a public station. Can’t wait to see how people deal with this fact in the real world.

Thats the DEALERSHIPs. Not the truck. Also, who is driving 300 miles a day? Just plug it in a night when you go to sleep. Then you will rarely have to ever stop, whereas a gas or diesel, you will.

Boring video. Seriously. I’m going to buy an very expensive EV because one of the main selling points is it can power my house when the power goes out? If you live in Cali or hurricane alley this might be a thing one day. In my 45 years of home ownership in Ohio, Florida, Arizona and Idaho I can count the number of times the power went out for more than an hour or two on one hand. Yet somehow adding all these EV’s to an already stressed power grid solves your problems? Looks like another expensive designer toy young people will feel they must have but can’t afford. Mortgage and car loan defaults are on the rise and about to skyrocket. But by all means in the mean time have fun.

I tried to get gas yesterday, and all the pumps were turned off for safety, and they didn’t know how to turn them back on. So I went to another station, and the clerk runs out of the store telling me that I was taking someone else’s gas! I had to go inside and buy the gas that I “took”, and then when I went to try to continue to fill up, he ran back out telling me that I didn’t pay for his gas again because I had voided the transaction when I attempted the second.
I like my 20th century vehicles, but anything from the last two decades MUST be an EV, and any motor swap I’m doing will also be an EV. Getting gas is too much of a hassle. With an EV, I have a full charge every day, even during the rolling blackouts after Snowmageddon 2021, where NO ONE could get gas, even after the thaw when power was restored.
