    I bought an 03 Grand Marquis LS Ultimate a couple months for for $4,700 with 67,000 miles. Low mileage but as with any older car I knew I’d have some stuff. So far I needed new hood lift supports, serpentine belt, and now my alternator just went out. All of your videos have been very helpful as I like to do things myself. Great content!

    Whether the belt is fully removed or not, this video is very informative! The removal of the belt was an attempt to kill two birds with one stone. Show you how to replace your seep belt and alternator in one vid. Look at things positively guys!

    ........... Why did you take the belt off fully, seems like you could have just left it on and hooked the belt over the new alternator in the end ?????

      I was going to ask that same question because it looks like you could just drop it down keep it on all the rest of the pulleys and then put it right back over the top of the alternator pulley

    ......... Be careful to use a "6-Point" socket not a 12-point socket. I stripped out one of the bolts and Ford doesn't sell new ones.

    I changed mine for the first time ever & here’s a tip if you don’t have the tool to move the tensioner, just completely take out one of the bolts at the bottom preferably the left one and let the alternator tilt a Little. The belt comes right off without having to bother the tensioner 💪

    YES! Why was the belt fully removed? Was that to simply add additional information and inspection or replacement of the belt? That belt is super important so it is a good time to replace it (if needed)...

      +Mark Mann Thank you for checking us out. The belt was removed due to a separate video showing the complete replacement. We agree that while performing this job you should always inspect the condition of the belt and replace as necessary. 1aauto.com

    Looks easy just looks like it would be confusing putting the belt back on. I think my alternator might be going bad on my 2003 grand marquis feels like I have a misfire and my headlights are dim I'm gonna get the alternator tested of its bad I'll replace it. Is this the same procedure for 2003 grand marquis. The only thing I'm worried about is getting the belt back on properly

    ........ Wish you would have gave torque amount in foot-pounds on each bolt. I hear top bolts have much less torque than bottom bolts.

    • @chrismofer
      @chrismofer 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      that's correct. I don't know the exact numbers, but the bottom bolts should be very tight and the top ones moderately tight. the top bolts are only going a few threads into pretty soft metal, don't overtorque them.

  • @460capri
    @460capri 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Unless your needing to replace the belt there is no reason to remove the belt from the car just the tensioner because as you say you only need to loosen the bottom bolts for the alternator to be removed as all you need is a small extension to reach past the belt . other than that good video .

    I have a 2006 Crown Victoria P71 and my battery light comes on then turns off then comes on again.
    Yesterday, My car was on and my dash died. So I turned off my car and then itt wouldn't start. I had to jump it.
    This morning the battery light was back on and I looked it up and I need a new alternator.
