TN-1 visa is good for 3 years. If you change US employer, you will need to apply for a new TN-1 visa. TN-1 visa can be renewed as many times as needed.
Only if you don’t speak English, have no money, don’t care about the US, don’t know or want to learn the culture and definitely don’t plan to assimilate will you be accepted with open arms.
It is a long process. It can take 3-5 years easily. TN-1 -> Labor Cert -> Green Card -> Citizenship. Each year, certain amount of visa is released for your country of birth (not citizenship). Once they are gone, you will need to wait for next year. For example, some Indian Canadians wait for years for their green card because there are many Indians in the queue.
If you come as a foreign student, the Canadian path is easier in getting work permit -> PR. After 3 years of PR, you can apply for Canadian citizenship.
