- VIRTUAL TIP JAR IN DESCRIPTION! "Gangster Of Love" is a classic R & B tune written and recorded by Johnny "Guitar" Watson in 1957. One of his most well-known early recordings, it was later covered by Steve Miller in 1968 and then referenced in "The Joker" with the line "some call me the gangster of love".

Managed to get my hands on a copy this 45 rpm record sometime back in the early 60s...I think I was about 13 yrs old...fell in love with it instantly...but when I flipped it over and played the other side is when my mind was totally blown...I had never heard blues guitar playing up until that point, they weren't playing it on the radio in my area or even using the word "blues" so I really didn't know what it was that I was hearing, all I knew, it was some of the coolest guitar I had heard at that point, Johnny plays an old Mercy Dee Walton number called "One Room Country Shack" and the guitar is just incredible...his tone..you guys need to check it out...my absolute favorite Johnny Guitar Watson recording...I love when just before he takes his solo he says "Look out frog !"
What an amazing recording. Also check out early 60's Johnny Winter version of "Gangster Of Love"

Been trying to wrap my head around his song "Space Guitar."
It's a wild and crazy one!!!
Hi Jake just wondering if you could show how that Jimmie Vaughn rhythm style goes on the Song Marked Deck and others that use that same kind of thing like Humbugin me. You are by far the best teacher out there! Love Texas blues. Can’t get enough of it here in Australia
Hey man! Yes, that is one of my favorite rhythm parts that Jimmie plays on "Marked Deck". Will keep in mind for a future lesson. Thank you!
Thanks Jake.
Your Shape is Like Matt "Guitar" Murphy
Nice lesson but the 'Texas Flood' lick was on the Larry Davis original long before Stevie Ray Vaughan covered it.
Of course that's very true. 1958 in fact.
