Thanks for showing the whole process of the stretch belt! I was going to do a 100k mile coolant flush and preventative maintenance water pump replacement. During the planning for the water pump replacement I decided I should change the serpentine belt... But then realized it would require learning how to do a stretch belt. I'm a novice and this looks very intimidating.
I know it's been a straight up YEAR since you said this, but don't get intimidated, man. The worst that happens is you damage a new belt. There's gotta be a first for every repair job, so don't be afraid to BE that first!
Please don't use lubricants on any serpentine or drive belts on your cars. It is most defiantly not the right way to do this. In fact doing so would cause premature failure and defeat the prepose of having a stretch belt by reducing the intended friction. With the cost of the lithium grease spray + tie-straps, you could of easily gotten a $5 belt tool (wedge type) that is readily available. If you are clearly not a professional please put disclaimers on your vids guys. Im a former Ford/Mazda master tech btw.. if that means anything to yall =|
Great walkthrough, if you remove the spark plugs before doing this it makes turning the engine over a ton easier since you're not fighting the compression of the engine to turn it over.
I just unbolted the compressor and put the belt on in an angle. At this point you’ll find yourself fighting to line up the bolts for the compressor. The trick is to line up as best you can and use a jack to jack up the rear of the compressor so it lines up. Feed your bolts in by hand and make sure you don’t cross thread it. Then give it a zap with your gun and voila. A little tricky but it’s way easier
@@kevinliang9502 it was for my own car. I verified and the condenser what broken. There was too much money to put into the car to justify putting the belt for a/c. Compressor was also seizing. Car might be worth 2000$ at most. Thank for the reply anyway.
@@RealRosieRuiz This is actually a huge myth, there is absolutely no reason why slowly turning an engine in the wrong direction will hurt it, all of the bearings/seals in engines are designed with rotation in mind, not just rotation in a specific direction. Now, if you were trying to actually crank the engine in the wrong direction that's a different story as it would likely drive the oil pump in reverse, causing no oil pressure.
@@RealRosieRuiz You can just change the direction of your rachet so you are only pulling. Or you could try to move to different sides. So you can keep rotating the shaft forward.
I was driving when (what I believe to be) my alternator belt broke & my car won’t turn over I check under the hood and don’t see any of the belts would this be the reason my car won’t turn over ?
It's a possibility that something is tangled and preventing your motor from turning over. I would try to manually turn your motor over using the crank pulley shown in this video (do it with a wrench). If you can get it to budge without too much effort, look into your battery/ignition. Do you have a Mazda 3?
I tried and failed at using zip ties to get the stretch belt installed. They just weren't strong enough! Hose clamp trick for the win. This was on a Mazda CX-9.
before watching this video : I'm gonna learn how to do it myself so I can save some money after watching this video : how can I increase my income so that paying for my car maintenance is not a big issue
I have the skyactiv it looks like the stretch belt is around the crank and water pump I plan on changing the 2 belts when I change the water pump can I use the method you are talking about instead of trying to wall the belt on?
I've been renching for over 30 Years brother and I have no idea what your doing you do because you're doing it but we don't have a clue you really need to stop and think about that thank you anyways

😂😂😂 right. Approve this message as a fellow ford tech and lexus tech.
I’m trying to get an AC belt on now. How should I do it?
@ryankopczyk360 use a hammer.
I'm a drywall professional if that means anything

Good suggestion - and a good excuse to replace the spark plugs at the same time
Exactly why fuck with the crank bolt if it doing this. I'd be worried about stripping or breaking it.
Thank you for the video. I opted for one big ass zip tie that is rated for 250 pounds. Its 1/2 inch wide. It worked perfectly and did not break.

Is it possible to do the serpentine. Belt without doing the stretch belt, or is the stretch belt in front of the serpentine belt?
My Mazda 3 sounds just like this, I think to myself "how hard could this be?!". I watch this and I went "aww mannn, it's a pain in the ass!"
Lol. You got this Israel!!
Ya me too. I thought take this to a mechanic and make it his problem for $160 and parts lol.
is the hose clamp to hold the stretch belt in place while turning the crank?
De todos los videos que vi sin duda el tuyo es el mejor you videos was the best thanks you so much bro
Sabes las medidas de la banda del A/C ? Cual es ?
I thought it was bad to turn the crankshaft counterclock wise.
It is, most definitely do not do it
Zip ties! Thinking about removing spark plugs. Should knock a lot of that friction back
I would use a zip tie rather than a metal clamp, so as not to damage the belt.
La trama para mi fue perfecta, el desarrollo de personajes, la historia y sumarle la increíble banda sonora.... me dolio despedirme de este juego
I don't know about using grease to slip the AC belt onto the pulley
If a/c doesnt work and dont want to bother. could you possibly not install the stretch belt?
you can but if you're going to do a job, do it right and don't cut corners. Otherwise get a professional to do it

the diagram also works on a 2012 mazda 3 2.0 i dont know about a 2.3 though
Why should I replace both belts and not just the worn serpentine belt ?
the stretch belt / ac belt is front of serpentine belt. ie you can't install the serpentine belt without removing the stretch belt.
yeah.... i think i'll pay my mechanic for this one
This just helped me sooooo much. Thank you sir 🙏
Also, if you pull on ratchets rather than push you greatly decrease the risk of busting a knuckle.
I just proved this rule at least twice in 8 minutes :)
Right but in this case you can't because rotating the engine backward may harm your engine.

I have to replace my a/c compressor. Can I just put on a AC Drive Belt and leave the serpentine belt on?
What if you dont beleiv in air conditioning? And just have no stretch belt??
my sons is missing the stretch belt (for now) and it runs fine.
You gave blood for this video. Thanks
Hey mate question did you. use 6pk1305 or the 6pk1300 Cheers man
I tried this method. It worked, except the hose clamp cut my belt half way through. Back to the drawing board...
what is the benefit of using the hose clamp?
You CAN'T TURN IT TO THE LEFT. BECAUSE TIMING BELT. BAD BAD BAD....
These are chains but yes you risk lossening the crank stretch bolt and these cranks are not keyed. It will jump time
What da hell is a stretch belt for?

Yep if the serpentine belt brakes your Mazda 3 won’t start
does the same apply with the 2007?
It should
Clearance Clarance !
Hi, what number is the key you used to turn the crankshaft
I think he said 21mm
overall good but the serpentine trick didn’t really work
Is it a timing chain or belt dude ?
Chain. But cranks not keyed
Hold the head of that Rachet with your left hand. else great work!!
Rust on a Mazda 3?!?!

I'm surprised you even tried using such a flimsy zip tie.
Just remove the AC Compressor much easier 10 minute job
Great suggestion, thanks Carlos!

Dude just drop the passenger side wheel 😂
Why are you using a hose clamp what's the benefit to that
Those clams ,comino, from, I dint, geit
cringe worthy. there is a better way. right tools for the job are a good staring point....
