As a beginner these early queens are the mainline so it’s great to see explained.
They're so annoying with them too. Like even if you play it right they keep moving the queen like they're going to win the entire game with just the queen. Then once you take it they rage

There used to be a community captions feature but it has been removed since 2020 and got replaced with a subpar auto-translate feature, so I’m not sure how it works now, but I’ll look into it. As a 700-800 new player, I've been binge watching chess videos to improve and this is definitely the best and most useful video I've watched. I get so stressed in game at playing the correct opening and regardless of time I try to force the game into positions I know. Daniel shows here so easily that if you just relax and play the game Infront of you it's alot more simple. Brilliant series, gives me alot of hope that I'll improve and enjoy every game.

Began playing chess about one year ago and can safely say that your content is a large part of why I've managed 1400 on lichess (and climbing). Providing this level of educational content for us to consume for free is incredible. I'm sorry it's a drag but these sorts of information are SO important for us to learn and I'm glad that it isn't just skipped like everyone knows this stuff. This is really great teaching and the fact you do these sorts of videos for us for FREE is really awesome! Everyone is always SO DRY when they teach chess.. I get that it can be a boring game to some and when ur trying to learn chess it's tough to listen to people that just have no enthusiasm lol I feel like you make the chess lesson easy to listen to and pay attention... it's such an important part of teaching that so many qualified people just lack when they try and do videos like this. This is 1000x better than the Chessbrahs speed runs with the constant rave music going in the background and no breakdown of the games like this. Idk that their speedruns are meant to be as educational... but then theres like Anna Cramling's videos where she is just like yelling at us the whole time lol like WAAAAY too over the top in her chess videos. It's hard on the ears. This isn't like a diss on any of those channels! I consume the content and am subscribed to all of them lol but you have very quickly become my favorite instructional coach! My only real complaint is that I wish there were a few more games in and around my level which is exactly what I think ur trying to avoid lol but there are people like me out here that really appreciate this. you do a great job at appealing to all levels imo. I've been 600-1300 whilst watching and I've plateud now but at every stage I've found all the videos useful - the lower elo makes me work on principles and the higher gives me motivation to explore what positions I like/poss openings/things to try etc. Plus no matter the elo they're just fun to watch!!

I'm slightly above these and learn something from it. One of my favourite things is actually learning how you teach chess. I find it helpful when trying to get my friends to take up the game.
I am 1500 (rapid) and I am always impressed how you manage to distill learnings out of all games at all levels. I think in focusing on the fundamentals against lower ranked players and more detailed/positional/strategic considerations towards the high end you have found a great setup for the speed run. Please dont let the few internet haters ruin your mood - the speedruns are pure gold

I tested out at around 1000 against 3 different chess engines before starting to write my own chess notebook. I plan to finish my notebook by the end of this year, train for 3 months, then start playing online. I’ve become highly skeptical of “opening principles”, the value of tactics puzzles, and lots of other common advice. My notebook is just an honest experiment by an old boomer😆
This series is valuable to check myself, and GM Danya’s commentary on his “speed runs” is simply the best I’ve bumped into.
@@alexwiththeglasses that is so wonderful to write a book and you are still a beginner. having a 1000 chess rating is good as i knew someone who was stuck in 800 ELO for a long time and he told me that reaching 1000 was the most difficult part for him. increasing chess rating while learning from your mistakes is a beautiful journey. it takes time but the most important thing you should enjoy every moment while playing, and make losing is your big lesson rather than getting upset. when i play chess and lose i smile because i know i will learn something new when i analyze my game. my blitz and rapid ratings are above 2000, but in bullet i am still in 1700. my goal is to make it above 2000 as well while enjoying every part of the chess game especially those games that i lose. i just want you to remember two things when you start playing a chess game. First, don’t be scared from your opponents when their rating is greater than your rating. Play calmly and show your opponents what you have learnt so far. Being scared will distract your thoughts which means the probability of losing is very high. Second, every chess player makes mistakes, not matter how high is his/her rating, even Carlsen does, and when that happens by your opponents, crush them immediately by seizing the moment. This means play well and be patient waiting for the big blunder from your opponent. It takes only 1 move to convert +100 bar to -100 bar.

Imho anyone stuck at 1200 or lower is likely making a certain type of error, sometimes called a one-move blunder. Typical solutions to minimize these one-move blunders talk about board awareness, chess vision, looking at threats, pattern recognition and doing tactics puzzles. The first section of my notebook, First Stop the Bleeding, defines a simple process based on the rules of chess alone to completely eliminate these types of errors. Big claim but easy to prove. More complex blunders are less obvious for sure.
My notebook is a personal experiment & lots of fun!

Interestingly enough, I had to start learning the Scandi (I'm at 750 elo) because I ran into it a dozen times in the last week or so and I didnt know I had to take on D5 right away. Ended up studying the Carlsen-Caruana game in 2014 where Carlsen won with the queen back to D8 line. Anyways, great content as always, thank you Danya! :)

I'm 1200. I went as low as 500 when I've Begun. You summarized in 30 minutes everything I have learned since than. Loved the "Brain turned to mush". I still experience it. However, I need more presure. "Evaluate a Pin: 1- Defended by a Pawn? 2- Is it permanent? Where may I read on these Topics? Chess history is one. Danya or Chat, any suggestions please? The diferent Squares possiblities for the Queen and the explanations. You're so Fast to see "Everything" and You teach like "Nobody WW". You're a Machine. Thanks!

I’m very committed to getting as most as I can from this speed run, so I’d like to try and study/play the openings beforehand, to get a feel for it
this is a super good idea, like reading ahead for college classes.
There’s something hilarious about a guy bringing his queen out early trying to appear threatening, only to blunder it to a 1 move attack after thinking for 2 minutes.
Im only 1200 elo but i like to treat these early videos as a test of sort. Danya is always asking very educational questions. If its questions at 800 elo, i can still learn by confirming what i know. Keep up the amazing work danya. Always love your speedruns. Theyre straight up free chess lessons.

there are 2 chessable courses on caro-kann if oyu need lines.
If Queen g6 in the Scandi, you can also just develop your knight and sac the g2 pawn with initiative.
reaching 1500 rapid is possible by just watching danya and analysing a few openings (fegatello attack, some caro sidelines...). thats astonishing to have such content available for free

I think it’s always healthy to revisit the basics, no matter what level you are.
I've been playing chess as a hobby for about two years and my rating is a humble 850. I appreciate seeing how to develop and covert positions at my own level. Now if I can stop hanging my pieces...
These are always great. I would prefer 10 minute games until the very high ratings, but no complaints otherwise:)

5:00 You say d5 'attacks and defends' which is misleading. The pawn can only do one thing at a time so it doesnt really threaten to win the bishop because then the knight would be undefended. One can even imagine a scenario where the pawn doesnt defend or attack because its pinned or where it defends inadequately because the knight is attacked twice. In these cases the knight would have to move (preferably to a square where it is defending or attacking something). I think the beginning of a speedrun is a nice place to talk about the interaction of basic strategies and tactics like this. Nice video.

It would be interesting to see a video where you don't try to capitalize on the first mistakes and just adopt a solid middlegame setup and wait for the opponent to dig their own graves.

I think we should play 1...e5 until we get to 1800-1900. Lots of players are afraid of playing these lines because they don't want to actually calculate if white is ultra aggressive.
I actually feel I learn a lot from these lower rated games. You can really appreciate how fundamentals are important because the lower rated players are much more likely to violate these principles.

I got 2 games in a row against the Wayward Queen attack and destroyed it both times. At the lower levels, they’re usually diving headfirst into the couple move mate, which is easily preventable and punishable in some disgusting ways. The best game I’ve ever played was against a Wayward Queen attack after I had literally just studied to play against it. I played at a 95% accuracy and white blundered the Queen via fork on move 6. Develop intelligently and most importantly, stay calm. Their threats are just as Danya said. They’re scary but only at a beginner level. When you’ve stopped the 4 move mate once, it’ll be very hard for you to ever blunder it. They hardly ever do anything different at a 600-700 level.
I'm rated 2700 in puzzles, but I often miss the simplest of tactics when playing. Explaining your thought process is very helpful to fill the gaps, doesn't matter whether your opponent is 500 or 5000
Damn, almost broke 800 in a super sharp game after I blundered in the opening, I trapped his rook but then I moved my king 1 square instead of castling when his queen was on b2, which turned a 2 point advantage to mate in 2 :(
