despite its popularity as a marquee T20 cricket event, continues to grapple with controversies that threaten its credibility. Recent seasons have been overshadowed by match-fixing suspicions and allegations of non-payment of salaries to players, particularly involving the Durbar Rajshahi franchise. These issues highlight systemic challenges in governance, financial transparency, and corruption prevention.
While the BCB and ICC Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) have intensified efforts to combat corruption, the BPL remains vulnerable to spot-fixing and illegal betting syndicates.
Durbar Rajshahi’s Payment Scandal
A separate but equally damaging issue involves Durbar Rajshahi, one of the BPL franchises, whose owners have allegedly failed to pay salaries to several players and support staff.
Durbar Rajshahi's owner flees from Bangladesh. Players are stranded in the hotel. The accommodation payments are yet to be cleared to the Hotel authority. While Durbar Rajshahi's bus driver locks player's kits as payment crisis strikes the Durbar Rajshahi franchise. The owner of the franchise promised to clear all the payments till February 10th.
While 10 players including foreign players and four teams are under investigation for spot fixing.
Muhammad Haris a Pakistani cricketer is stranded at the hotel and demanding clearance of the dues and for return ticket to Pakistan. Authorities have claimed that he has been brought back to Pakistan.
The future of BPL is at risk.
On the other hand Rohit Sharma was asked about the preparations for the biggest match of the champions trophy tournament that is India vs Pakistan. He cleverly answered the question.
