Totally agree with you the 357XP 346XP and their Jonsered counterparts are hands down some of my all time favorite saw's.

I have a 357 that's worked quite hard and has a Walbro carb that is still working well. I also have a 2156 that has done very little work with a Zama carb. I have modified muffler on the Jonsered and it really is one of my favourite saws.

I remember, back in 98, I was in nanaimo, or near nanaimo, in a sawshop with my uncle. And I think it might have been your shop. I had been working with my uncle on the mountains under the powerlines for BC Hydro. Clearing trees and brush, to keep it low under the powerlines. I was 19 at the time and did this job for my uncle's company Green Global Contracting as an internship. I did earn some money on that job, so I wanted to buy a good climbing saw.
I remember getting into the store, several types and brands visible, and I had set my mind on a 020t. But the man behind the counter did his best to swing my preference over to the echo brand.
Still went for the 020t, that costed half the price in Canada compared to what they would charge ya in Europe. I tried to smuggle it past customs by completely taking that saw apart and dividing it between all the suitcases and other luggage I carried. They still picked me out the line though... 'anything to declare?' They asked.... 'nope' was my awnser... rummaging trough one bag, they found a bar and clutch cover.... 'what is this' they asked. To which I replied 'oh, those would be a bar and clutch cover for a chainsaw. Later, they discovered a 2 stroke engine in another suitcase... et cetera
Anyway, in the end they found what appeared to be a complete saw.... 'well, that looks like a complete saw'... I said; 'really, ya think so?'
'This is an item that needs to be taxed'... so I had to pay them a 180 guilders, based on the receipt they also found somewhere.... I was kinda bummed, but still saved a couple of hundred bucks compared to directly buying it in the Netherlands.
Anyways, glad I wore all those Levi pants I bought and stuffed them unwashed between my other dirty clothes, and I unpacked al the CD's and put them together with my discman...
    That saw, I later swapped it for a couple new husqvarna saws. I bought a 357, a 362 and a 372. Swapped a dolmar 115i, that 020t and a jonsered 670 champ.
Nowadays, I stihl run husky, stihl, have my first Dolmar, and yes, it took almost 30 years, but I also have echo saws nowadays, love em. So, in hindsight, thanks for the advice!

Great saw, that 357....wish I had one! But what I do have is a 359 that I've had since new! Clean, fresh gas, clean filter, and a sharp chain.....she's been a great runner since new! I run a 24" bar, full comp 3/8' chain and it pulls it nicely in the Sitka Spruce that is our primary wood here. Looking forward to seeing and hearing the finished product of this build! Cheers Donny!

Donny....any thoughts on the 359 compared to the 357? Was the 359 the succeeding model?

The 359 was the non-XP model on the same chassis as the 357xp. A bit like the 365 was to the 372xp. The 357xp had a Mahle cylinder I believe, like the 372xp. The 359 had an in-house Husqvarna cylinder, which had transfer caps but still somewhat of a quad loop design. Interesting that the more budget oriented 359 had a 2cc displacement advantage over it's high performance "big little brother".

Great video with lots of great info, I’m wondering where the 359 stands compared to the 357?

I've been hunting for one of these for awhile. You did my 346 couple years ago and it's hands down my favorite ported saw so far!! Do you get into the 5105 dolmars? I just built one and it's extremely clean but it's performance is kinda "mehh" after hours on ported 550mk2 n ported 346..
