I see it as quite the cope, to say that 50+ years ago the Republicans didn’t care about abortion. Neither did the other party. Neither did most Americans. My wife was almost aborted, because a Christian doctor said there was a small chance of health issues, so why risk it. Instead she was born 100% healthy and we have raised two beautiful kids together. If wrong views from the distant past were corrected - that’s not a negative. That is something to praise the Lord for! So many believers prayed for so many decades in faith that Roe would be overturned and murder would be curtailed and power given to the states. One party joined in that fight. The other tried to stop us.
I wonder what happened in the late 1960’s to cause the Republican Party to take a stance on abortion. It’s almost like abortion was considered morally and legally wrong by both parties until some legal precedent came out. I can’t remember the name of it though.
@@JimmyRustle1089 Wasn't the 60's it was 1973 Supreme Court Decision "A Woman's Right to Choose". Read about Margaret Sanger, Planned Parenthood (PP), the rise of feminism, and the National Organization of Women (NOW).
This totally threw me off AT FIRST. Thoughts like, “Pastors shouldn’t be talking like this in the pupil.” Or “pastors should display more self control.” BUT I had to remind myself this is only the first of a six week series. This was just to get the ball rolling. I have started to read his book Overcomers and there is so much more to all of this then just this one sermon. I hope this will continue to be a series that points us to Jesus who is ultimately on the throne.
Roe v. Wade was argued in 1972 and decided in 1973. This made it a political issue on the National stage. A little study of history might provide you some proper context.
As someone who is most likely voting for Trump, it’s hilarious and sad seeing the amount of Christians prove Matt’s point at 32:40. You have an inability to listen to someone critique your savior Trump without throwing shade.
@@notaboutdavid So...is no one allowed to respond? Is that the measure of a God-fearing Christian: no rebuttals statements from the podium? What are you on about, exactly? No one here has an "inability to listen." MATT'S THE ONE WITH THE MIC - we can't BUT listen. No pastor, teacher, preacher, or politician gets to tell me that disagreeing with him is tantamount to idolatry. You've got to be outta your mind.
We fight not against flesh and blood but against principalities against powers against the rulers of the darkness of this world and against spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. We are fighting a battle from faith to faith and can do this with a peace a peace that this world cannot give knowing the battle has been won.
So we're just supposed to pray and wait for things to happen? Or should we do what Paul said in James and put works and actions with our prayers? Praying for change and not voting won't change anything.
My adult daughter was an ardent follower, she called you her pastor. I found her today in tears, because her pastor has fallen. I can’t count how many times she has mentioned your sermons and what they meant to her in her walk with God. You’ve done so much damage to your flock & the unborn. You’ll answer for it.
This is an insane comment. You know they have an anti abortion sermon every year. What foolishness is this that because he doesn’t like Trump you think he’s somehow less a Christian?
I understand your disappointment in Matt, however he who is without sin should throw the first stone. If your daughter’s faith has suffered because of what Matt did, then her faith is not anchored in Jesus, but man. Matt mad a mistake, he brought it to his elders, and suffered the consequences for his sin already. Jesus has paid the price for ALL of our sins, there will be no punishment in Heaven for believers, so please don’t make unbiblical threats to someone who has committed a sin. We will all be held accountable for what we do in the body of Christ, but that is not paying for our sins, Jesus already did that!! I pray you seek the Lord and pray for her, as that will certainly be more helpful rather than condemning her Pastor.
My Presbyterian church joined Acts 29 years ago. I moved to FL and joined an Acts 29 church. I saw you at a conference there. Went to Reformed Theological Seminary. I saw Tullian Tchividjian at a chapel service there. I envied you both at that time. So glad the Lord, in His great wisdom, led me down another path. It is no wonder the people of God are fleeing to small congregations and traditional congregations. When expository preaching is tossed aside, it becomes all about the speaker and his thoughts. The people of God need to be fed the Word of God or else they become malnourished. (A tip-of-the-hat toward the Word of God at the beginning doesn't count.) In the last fourteen years, you have not changed much. And that's not growth.
How is this not expository preaching?? Did he not read the scripture directly, then explain the meaning to the original people it was written and then apply that to modern society? I would call that expository.
@@PTmarcus It is a topical sermon. Matt had something to say and said it using Scripture as a springboard. The sermon was not about unpacking Genesis 1:26-31 or Genesis 3:16-19. The weight of the sermon rested upon Matt's thoughts of the current political situation in the U.S.
Did you miss the part where he gave the difference between his words and the text? Kinda what Paul does in some spot in scripture. Do you disown Paul’s words because he’s speaking his own mind? Politics has taken the throne of peoples lives that they cannot handle any opposing view to their binary opinions.
I have in the past 3 years growing as a Christian partly due to Matt's preaching. It isn't very Godly of you to be public shaming him. It seems that you still harbour jealousy in your heart. May God help you to grow in His wisdom and love.
He litterally called democrats policy demonic. I think you missed the entire point. You’re upset that he complimented Obama (taking your word for that) and yet Trump compliments some of the worst people on the planet. The selective moral outrage is crazy.
@@Autumnal78 well Kim Jung Un and Putin…. I get what he’s doing but you can’t be offended that someone praised Obama when your guy has praised murderous people. That’s the point.
As always, this was an incredibly powerful word. Specifically, the last 10 minutes was something that every pastor needs to receive and share with their congregations, and every Christian needs to receive for themselves! Thanks Matt!!!!
Hahahahaha. This child with his ridiculous contrived hand motions. The fact that he does not step aside in humiliation is stunning….and he is perhaps texting our wives right now!!
So... why does this shepherd not give clear direction to his congregation on how to act in this election? Is it not important? Does the bible not speak to this issue?
You won’t hear it here. You won’t hear that Kamala supports abortion on-demand up to birth. You won’t hear she is a socialist. You won’t hear she believes in sexualizing children. You will hear a talk purposed to cause you to question Trump presented by a woke pastor.
Not everything has a clear direction, besides, Pastor Matt isn't an old Testament prophet. There have been many times and periods throughout human history where God hasn't given clear instructions about something as specific as an election, so to expect that is unbiblical
We know Jesus is our King but if Kamala becomes president than our freedom to love and worship our King will end up being a crime. You don't need to point out the rampant evilness on both sides because we know and that online fighting that occurs is not the majority. We need to pray more and vote Trump.
Very good sermon, Pastor Matt. Thank you. The comment about "politics becoming theological and starting this" was powerful and helpful. I also think that perspective would help explain why the Republican Party started incorporating anti-abortion into their policy in 1972 because that was when Roe v Wade was being argued. In January 1973 the Roe ruling gave way to legalized abortion. Before then it was extremely rare and mostly illegal.
The only quote in Matt's sermon that is not cited is from Rich Villodas. Some endorsements of Rich's books include Russell Moore, Jemar Tisby, and Karen Swallow Prior. After reading Megan Basham's book "Shepherds for Sale," I wonder if this was an oversight on Matt's part or was intentional.
“The Church is not to be found at the “center” of a left/right political world. The Church is to be a species of its own kind, confounding left, right, and center, and finding its identity from the "center" of God’s life in Christ.”
This sermon appeared with comments on X so I went in to listen to it. We left The Village Church before “Woke” became a common word. We started to feel that Matt was going off the tracks somewhat. It was so subtle at first. Now though, to hear him scream about Trump’s immoral behavior after he, himself, had to step down for a while because of inappropriate communications with another woman in the church is hypocritical to me. There is not nor will there ever be perfect candidates in our elections. Matt, you may want to go back through your Bible and see how God used flawed/sinful men to rule and teach…King David (an adulterer), Saul/Paul (a murderer), and Samson (an adulterer) are just a few examples. Read James 3:1 to remember that we aren’t all called to be teachers, but those who are will receive stricter judgement. One of our freedoms is free speech, but the opinions of pastors shouldn’t all be blasted from the pulpit unless they are Biblically based. Always vote for the candidate who most closely aligns with God’s word even though they aren’t perfect, but stay focused on Jesus not the White House.
In my opinion: very, very different situations. Chandler was called out on said communications and submitted himself to his Elders' discipline. Trump, uh... Doesn't really do that.
You are correct! The situations are different…to us that is. One is a presidential candidate, and one is a pastor. Do you believe that the situations are different to God? It’s interesting that you said Chandler submitted to the elders’ discipline and didn’t mention God. How do you know Trump’s heart? I don’t! I really think you might have missed my point. Matt’s opinions are fine. I even agree with some of what he said, but when he’s on that stage showing his passionate revulsion of others, that’s what I meant when I said he goes off the tracks. I love Jack Hibbs at Calvary Chapel Chino Hills, CA and Gary Hamrick at Cornerstone Chapel in Leesburg,VA. They are probably more well known than Matt and far more humble. They each have amazing sermons on the church, politics and the upcoming election. Listen to them, and you will hear the difference in their messages from Matt’s.

@@DeathCityRockStar You are a very respectful person. Thank you for that. I’ve listened to many pastors criticize public figures, just not in the angry Matt did it in this sermon!
The more I think about Matt's unbalanced criticisms of Trump and the Democrat Party, it should really be no surprise to anyone, considering that it was Matt Chandler who referred to Barack Obama - one of our country's most anti-Christian Presidents of all time - as a "great man." Projected to be a great unifying force in America, Obama was actually incredibly divisive, and it was he alone who set race relations back 50 years by all his pro-black/minority and anti-white diatribes. I am sensing a pattern with Matt Chandler that suggests he has a Godly discernment problem.
Unbalanced? The man literally roasted leftist policies. You just prove his point that Christians have been lured by the Republican Party so much that any critique against their candidate makes them get upset.
@@scottner he literally called the democrats policies DEMONIC. What idol must you have to come away with what you did? Unbalanced, if anything he was far kinder to republicans than democrats. Maybe you should ask why it is you turn immediately to defense of Trump when amy criticism of him occurs. When people on the left talk about people think Trump is akin to Jesus. You are some of the people they are talking about. I hope you see this as an opportunity to move words Christ and away from the idol of politics.
I'll offer up some thoughts if anyone cares to consider and respond. As I've said elsewhere, almost everything was spot on and certainly when Matt spoke from and about Scripture. I just didnt get the vitriol against Trump. It struck me as kinda odd as if he had some deep, personal beef against the man (perhaps the presentation I heard was more or less biting than this one). And if it's being suggested that Christians take an antagonistic or cold attitude toward politics, maybe that's safe, but I'm inclined to believe that matters of politics are more worthy of our excitement, fervor, and keen interest than the Dallas Cowboys or Taylor Swift. I think that if we keep our heads and understand that our relationship with politicians is purley transactional and that they actually work for us, regardless of what they themselves may think, then we can be free to enjoy the process.
I think his vitriol was coming out of a place of frustration that he believes Trump has pulled many Christians away into thinking he is their savior instead of Christ, for his own self gain like he alluded to earlier. It’s a pastor trying to protect his sheep from deceit. I think that is where the emotion is coming from. I have watched a lot of Chandler’s sermons over the years, and I don’t think he means we should take a “cold attitude” towards politics. If anything the fact that he is doing this series, and for 6 weeks, shows that he believes we have a responsibility to be actively involved. I just think he is trying to emphasize our allegiance doesn’t lie with either side in this intro. I’m sure he is going to expand on what he thinks this looks like more practically over the coming weeks.
Trump is selling expensive Bibles with American flags on them. For a mere thousand dollars, you can get said Bible autographed by Trump himself. This is a man any serious Christian should have plenty of nothing to do with. He is an Antichrist, quite literally. The vitriol is more than warranted.
@@CliffdogRussell I think the emphasis is welcome and needed, but I don't think Trump has pulled Christians away from anything; and I have no insight into Trump's motives for running other than what he claims and his first term performance; I think that's the fairest criteria anyone can use to judge him, and anything else is conjecture at best. Yes, I'm guessing that there is something in it for him, but then, no one works for free. And to blame Trump for pulling away Christians from Christ (if these people even exist), I think is to make him a scapegoat for a hypothetical group's unfounded and really strange theology. Again, if these people exist, then their problem is more fundamental than Trump's rhetoric - like maybe bad teaching, lack or rejection of community, or mental health issues. I am so saddened and horrified that a pastor would advocate acting confounded in an extremely critical election year. To those who may not be familiar with the exact definition of CONFOUNDED: to express with anger or annoyance. To be confused or perplexed; damned. If recommending political “limbo” or, abstinence is Mr. Chandler’s answer, as he admits to his blood boiling and being so confused as to whether he can agree with the policies of the right, remember this: 40 million Christians don’t vote. 15 million aren’t even registered. Voting is a right, a duty, a privilege and a responsibility! A Christian should vote in as close alliance with policies that align with Biblical principles. Christians, of all people, should vote! Only the right’s policies align with the teachings of Jesus… pro-God, pro-family, pro-child, pro-life, pro-free speech, pro-freedom! If Trump’s policy on abortion is not sufficiently pro-life for you, just know that not voting for him WILL result in more dead babies. Do you know that 10 states have the most pro-life laws EVER, thanks to Trump?? They will all go away if he is not elected. Pregnancy centers will now be under assault and pro-life advocates will be under constant legal threats. And- what about the hundreds of thousands of children being trafficked over the border? VOTE LIKE MILLIONS OF LIVES DEPEND ON IT…BECAUSE THEY DO!!!! People fought, bled & died to give you the right to live in a democracy & in the greatest country of the world. Although Mr. Chandler states the left is demonic, he criticized the right’s charter, its policies and its candidate. I have never heard a pastor call another person a liar, or repeat demonizing rhetoric like,”orange man bad” or say that someone is not trustworthy… especially a former president of our country from his pulpit… ( or in this case, a huge, theatrical stage.) Where is the Christian example? Where is there any fruit of the spirit in this sermon? Yes, I know, Mr. Chandler doesn’t care if you like him or even stay in his church. He elaborated by saying he may not like you either. Nice… I guess that’s my cue to turn my other cheek, right Mr.Pastor? A good pastor will tell you to follow Jesus. A good cult leader will tell you to follow him. Village Church… wake up! Make sure that your coffee bar is actually serving coffee and not some of that “ special “ kool-aid. A good shepherd / pastor leads his flock /congregation to paths of righteousness, not to their destruction. Ephesians 6:12 ( KJV) How do Christians fight “ against rulers, against authorities, against the powers of this dark world” if we do not participate in politics?
I think the point of the message was to not to ever put our hope and faith in mere mortals which includes the republican party. But instead to hold Jesus as our only hope, our only true authority in this world. I think you missed that, entirely. Vote for who you think lines up with our values the most, but do not replace Jesus for them. That’s the point.
The right's policies are anti-Christ in the extreme. They're not pro-family or pro-life. They're pro capitalism, the engine of which is greed, and pro nationalism, the engine of which is me-first-at-the-expense-of-everyone-in other countries. Now, liberals are not good either, because they're the other corporate party of international business and American hegemony, which spells DEATH to people in struggling countries (and poor people here in America too). But the socialist left is actually pro-life. It's anti-war, anti-capitalist, and anti-nationalist. Think what you will on abortion, but neither side, at least in this election, is actually against that. In short, you're correct not to vote for Democrats, but you're sorely mistaken in thinking there's anything Christian about the right.
@@SamuelDiaz21 Unfortunately, clarity is needed. I believe you missed my point, entirely. Jesus is the forever King of Kings and Lord of Lords! He is the Alpha and Omega! He is everything! Jesus has been on the thrown for 10,000 years and will be there 10 million more. However… VOTING IS AN ACT OF DUTY, NOT OF WORSHIP. I encouraged Christians to vote, not put their faith and hope in the Republican Party or mere mortals. Of the 90 million professed evangelicals in the United States, 40 million don’t vote! Again, 15 million aren’t registered! But, to vote in accordance with the teachings of Jesus, would be a vote for the Republican Party/candidate. There is no other choice this time. God has instructed us to be good citizens and good stewards of what we have been given… that includes our country and the people placed in positions of power to govern it. That all happens because of the electoral process. We are not voting for a Messiah, Savior or King… we already have all three! But God, with all sovereignty and loving wisdom, grants us the daily ability to make choices between good and evil in all areas of our life. Therefore, elections matter: Not to replace or diminish the ONE TRUE KING, but, as an opportunity thank God for the abundance of goodness HE has given us through the privilege we have in the voting process to care for and preserve this awesome country we get to call home. God bless the USA!
@@SamuelDiaz21 and you missed this commenter's point, Samuel. There is a way to state what you've said so clearly, without all of the distractions and overwrought emotions. It's good that you're able to extract Matt's main idea, but all the other stuff only serves to muck it up for so many others. Now, instead of giving our energized "yes and amen" to the kernel of truth in this message, we're stuck now wading through this irresponsible mess.
You're not listening, friend. His blood (and mine) boils when people claim a MAN is our messiah. We already have a messiah and He's ruling and reigning in the heavens. Have you not heard the false praise from our brothers and sisters who follow Trump, calling him messiah, chosen by God, like he was anointed and walks in ANY kind of piety or godliness? Isn't he just another Saul, who as you recall God cursed his own people with. Matt is literally telling us to follow Jesus, not the system of this world. He is telling us to rest in Jesus' work of righteousness, not rely on the false 'righteousness' of a political party (BOTH of which tug at us with their own definitions of righteousness). You should vote, but you should also know that God's will isn't thwarted by which way the ballots go.
I respect Matt Chandler and have listened to him for 13 years now, though I disagree with him. Chandler criticizes the Republican Party for manipulating Christians into a frenzy over abortion, yet he uses emotionally charged rhetoric himself, likening modern laws to ancient child sacrifice. This tactic stirs his audience much like the frenzy he accuses the Republicans of creating. If his critique of the Republican Party is valid, then his own emotional rhetoric should be viewed critically, as it mirrors the tactics he condemns, weakening his argument. I hope this is helpful to read as I want things to improve.
Your comment shows you missed the point. Conveying emotion while speaking the truth is certainly not comparable. No side is good. No side is saving us. Both sides are evil. I am SO grateful he's using his position to speak the truth the Church so desperately needs to hear.
@@InHisImage999 I understand you may not see the language as fear-inducing, but strong words can unintentionally create fear. Proverbs 15:1 says, "A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." Comparing abortion to child sacrifice, where a post-birth, conscious child was tortured and killed, is extreme and not the same. This comparison suggests our society is equally evil, causing fear, guilt, or anxiety instead of understanding. And if you respond please stay on target, I never said one side was better than the other nor do I THINK they will save me.
The Proverbs verse you used insinuated that Chandler's words were harsh. They weren't harsh, it's truth, based on scripture. So again, what you are perceiving as harsh or emotionally driven tactics is simply the hard truth that folks don't want to hear and it's unfair to call what Chandler is hoping to achieve with his sermon is comparable to political manipulation. Furthermore, abortion IS child sacrifice, no matter the developmental stage of the human. All abortion is child sacrifice, our society IS s equally as evil, and if you can't see that, we won't get anywhere in this back and forth.
I hope his anger was for Jesus and Christians. I think he messed up when describing party’s and republicans using abortion. That’s actually not true. It’s his opinion…the law on abortion happened because of a real situation. It was bound to come at some point. What is interesting is people are angered by abortions. Primarily Christians and Catholics. I’m willing for constructive conversation. There are imperfect people who lie and imperfect people who hide. You tell me which party does more than the other. Donald trump going back to the 80’s has literally always been the same person and believes the same views. You pick the better party of the two. To vote Democrat is in fact approving all of the demonic invasion this country has seen in the last 4 years. We knew it was going on before but now it is being accepted. That must stop for the sake of God.
Brother, there are no perfect pastors. Everyone one of us is fallen. It's best to get a variety of viewpoints from different theological circles and prayerfully come to our own conclusions based on: (1) a historical orthodox understanding of scripture, (2) counsel from a variety of solid Christian pastors, (3) church history and writings of church fathers. I believe his position is very reasonable.

I was in the 11 service. I was a little skeptical that Matt was going to be able to handle this message with grace and truth. Politics brings out so much ungodly anger and frustration. Lord Jesus, please soften the hearts and eliminate the pride of those who are still not understanding the message here. I would've never considered myself to be a prideful person until I understood what pride actually is and what humbling yourself looks like. It saddens me that any Christian would be offended by this message or scratch their head at anything he said.
It's a form of pride to believe you fully understand a stranger's heart or motives based on a simple comment. Assuming someone isn't "getting the message" because they disagree overlooks the possibility that they may have a thoughtful, faithful perspective. True humility involves listening and seeking understanding, not assuming others are prideful or offended without knowing their hearts. The whole point of Matt's sermon is for us to treat each other as image bearers.

Why is the desire to live one's own way "demonic" only when it includes certain sins, Matt? I'm serious here. This is no attack. Please, Village Church, pass this along to Matt. Why aren't the sins of (1) not considering immigrants "persons" and not giving THEM "personhood," preferring, rather, to protect what's "ours" from the marginalized sojourner, and (2) calling people "trash" and mistreating every group of human being, sexually harassing women and living as a convicted, unrepentant sexual predator who incites attacks on the Capital... and democracy, totally disregarding human life in the process, and (3) being a serial liar and lover of self and money (thus associating with the father of lies rather than the Way, the Truth, and the Life) considered demonic? Where in Scripture are the sins that one earthly, political party especially dislikes elevated as the sins God especially dislikes? God especially dislikes any and all rebellion against Him, which includes every sin (like sitting in the seat of the scoffers and being divisive, which is DT's daily MO) and Jesus especially, ESPECIALLY dislikes when people who have an up close view of His Lordship and who have every reason to take it seriously are the ones who treat His Lordship as a commodity (He says that those of Sodom and Gomorrah will have it better in the next world than those who have the opportunity to really know Him as a people-feeder, people-healer, etc., but treat Him lightly (Matthew 11:20-24), and who also block the lost from accessing the one true God by their bad behavior as "Godly" men and women before a watching, lost world). So then, why not call THESE guilty persons' behaviors "demonic," or call those who yoke the name of Christ to either DT or KH a "brood of vipers"? Please, help me understand. Thank you for your consideration! And please make access to your pastors (Village Church) a real thing. I'm doubting anyone from Village reads these comments and responds in a sharpening way to their brothers and sisters in the Lord. More importantly, how does someone who is lost and searching for a Savior, who hears one of Matt's online sermons, find access to a live disciple-er from Village Church? If you have no capacity for one-on-one interaction, isn't being an extra-large church with Internet access but no true relational charity a mirror of what the world offers? Can we in the body of Christ please be different? Matt, you have a gift for preaching, but your untouchability is not a true representation of the Christ to whom we must be willing to conform. Maybe shrinking our scope to the number of people with whom we can feasibly interact on occasion is the real answer... and may, simultaneously, do the most in keeping us humble and truly conformed to Christ's true likeness and distinct from the world...?
Now I see why America is in its current state. Just by watching the first minute of this video, you can tell how fake, scripted, superficial, and pathetic it is.
It's a disclaimer the Village puts before all their sermons, to encourage people not to 'avoid meeting together as is the habit of some', but to get plugged into a living breathing body of Christ, lest you wither alone, thinking all you need is yourself and your sermons.
Yeah, Chandler is one of many of the megachurch pastors that get messages written for him by a service. They've been identified as having a left leaning bias and Chandler, Platt and JD Greer have mentioned it at times thinking there's no issue with it. Sad and makes me not take them seriously.
I think you missed the point of what he was saying.
I wonder what happened in the late 1960’s to cause the Republican Party to take a stance on abortion. It’s almost like abortion was considered morally and legally wrong by both parties until some legal precedent came out. I can’t remember the name of it though.
You and your thinking. You are supposed to just turn off your brain and watch the video. 😂

Possibly the best sermon I have ever heard on the topic. Well done Matt!!
@ she’s upset he didn’t endorse Trump. That’s what caused the fallout.
Well said. I use to listen to both and I’m not sure if God showed me to stop following them or they just became so odd that it became obvious.
Before you watch this remember that Matt Chandler called Obama a “great man” and said pastors should have helped their congregations understand.

So... why does this shepherd not give clear direction to his congregation on how to act in this election? Is it not important? Does the bible not speak to this issue?
You won’t hear it here. You won’t hear that Kamala supports abortion on-demand up to birth. You won’t hear she is a socialist. You won’t hear she believes in sexualizing children. You will hear a talk purposed to cause you to question Trump presented by a woke pastor.
Not everything has a clear direction, besides, Pastor Matt isn't an old Testament prophet. There have been many times and periods throughout human history where God hasn't given clear instructions about something as specific as an election, so to expect that is unbiblical
It's a six-week message
“I’m not getting political, they get theological and started it.”
Wow
We know Jesus is our King but if Kamala becomes president than our freedom to love and worship our King will end up being a crime. You don't need to point out the rampant evilness on both sides because we know and that online fighting that occurs is not the majority. We need to pray more and vote Trump.
Definitely voting for Donald Trump but I agree with this.
Is this the quote talking about the church she be a species of its own kind, confounding the left and right?
@ Yes
“The Church is not to be found at the “center” of a left/right political world.
The Church is to be a species of its own kind, confounding left, right, and center, and finding its identity from the "center" of God’s life in Christ.”
I find his comments about politics and abortion unnecessary and disappointing. He is not expositing a text.
That's why we have the leaders we do in Government, because too many Christians felt talking about anything political is unnecessary.
@@kevinphillips9459 he does both. Should we as the people of God not talk about abortion? Should we not have honest conversations about politics?

The more I think about Matt's unbalanced criticisms of Trump and the Democrat Party, it should really be no surprise to anyone, considering that it was Matt Chandler who referred to Barack Obama - one of our country's most anti-Christian Presidents of all time - as a "great man."
Projected to be a great unifying force in America, Obama was actually incredibly divisive, and it was he alone who set race relations back 50 years by all his pro-black/minority and anti-white diatribes.
I am sensing a pattern with Matt Chandler that suggests he has a Godly discernment problem.
Unbalanced? The man literally roasted leftist policies. You just prove his point that Christians have been lured by the Republican Party so much that any critique against their candidate makes them get upset.
Great words

I am so saddened and horrified that a pastor would advocate acting confounded in an extremely critical election year.
To those who may not be familiar with the exact definition of CONFOUNDED:
to express with anger or annoyance. To be confused or perplexed; damned.
If recommending political “limbo” or, abstinence is Mr. Chandler’s answer, as he admits to his blood boiling and being so confused as to whether he can agree with the policies of the right, remember this:
40 million Christians don’t vote.
I have never heard a pastor call another person a liar, or repeat demonizing rhetoric like,”orange man bad” or say that someone is not trustworthy… especially a former president of our country from his pulpit… ( or in this case, a huge, theatrical stage.)
Where is the Christian example? Where is there any fruit of the spirit in this sermon? Yes, I know, Mr. Chandler doesn’t care if you like him or even stay in his church. He elaborated by saying he may not like you either. Nice… I guess that’s my cue to turn my other cheek, right Mr.Pastor?

Ephesians 6:12 ( KJV)
How do Christians fight “ against rulers, against authorities, against the powers of this dark world” if we do not participate in politics?

Unfortunately, clarity is needed.
But, to vote in accordance with the teachings of Jesus, would be a vote for
the Republican Party/candidate.
Therefore, elections matter:
Not to replace or diminish the ONE TRUE KING, but, as an opportunity thank God for the abundance of goodness HE has given us through the privilege we have in the voting process to care for and preserve this awesome country we get to call home.

@@lynelleonarecker5067why are you not praying for Kamala’s salvation. May I offer an observation that you may be captivated by politics and not Jesus.
"You have this liar guy over here who is in it for himself." Really, Matt? Rubbish mate! Good God!
The guy that is in it for himself that has had 2 assassination attempts and refuses to take a salary. That guy Matt?
@@mickeytollison yes he can do those things and also be in it for himself. He’s not Jesus guys. He’s not Hitler but he definitely isn’t a saint. He is a liar, I’m sorry if that offends you but it’s just the truth. He doesn’t lie at the rate the media and democrats say but he is a liar. He’s a serial adulterer. Tell me was he just being selfless there as well? C’mon guys. You can still vote for him and acknowledge his faults. Your morality isn’t based on how good of a man the presidential candidate you vote for is.
We've never listened to this man and have no opinion on his ministry or character. But regarding this "sermon", it's textbook compromise, people-pleasing and failure to lead the flock with clarity, all while mixing in good sound bites and presenting himself as bold. and all part of the great falling away. This poor congregation is likely even more confused. Not surprised to learn he called Obama a good man. For a mature, strong Election Day sermon from a God fearing strong shepherd, listen to Pastor Gary Hamrick (Cornerstone Capel) "Election Day Sermon 2024" from 9/8/24. Pray for Matt and always remember that we all fall short, our answer is not in a politician, onnly Jesus can save America. But we vote policies that line-up closer with our biblical worldview, and this one is a no-brainer
You missed the entire point of the sermon. Is God king? You’ve seemed to believe the lie you must vote for one of two. If republicans wanted people like me to vote for their candidate they should have nominated someone who reflect Jesus.
Pastor Matt, it feels as though we’ve been pastored/ thank you God for direction. For clarification-praise king Jesus. Elizabeth
Sooo TRUMP 2024 it is!

I understood that reference... ;)
I was in the 11 service. I was a little skeptical that Matt was going to be able to handle this message with grace and truth. Politics brings out so much ungodly anger and frustration. Although I didn't agree with every single view he expressed, I thought he "landed the plane" beautifully. I left with an overwhelming sense of, "Gods got this!" Well done Matt.
He handles his personal message as expected. Clownish, childish.
I’m extremely curious, as he “landed the plane,” how then do you intend to vote?
In reading Genesis 1-3 I apologize but I just honestly don't see where your drawing the point from that Adam and Eve were given a special authority to rule and rein. Incan only find they were commanded to subdue the earth and have dominion only over wildlife in order to eat. Can someone please help me understand?
Great job, Matt!! 🎉
For a real sermon on the election from a non-compromised legitimate God-fearing shepherd, listen to Pastor Gary Hamrick (Corner Stone Chapel) "Election Day Sermon 2024", from 9/8/24
Hurray for your biblical message Matt... what a relief.
I’m kind of disappointed that he with democrats! 😮
This is Truth 💯!
👍🏽
PREACH!
i love how you are like trying to act like ur in the middle trying to just focus on being christian but at the end of your sermon I literally know who you are voting for... if you do happen to vote for trump you are proving my point why give this stupid sermon if you know at the END OF THE DAY sacrificing your kid to BAAL is worse than having to deal with mean tweets...but if you do vote for Harris you literally are telling everyone that the democratic party has demonic principles but YOU CAN STILL VOTE FOR DEMONIC POLICIES ? hahahahah i just have a question your church does an excellent job at saying the western church does everything wrong , is there any underground churches in china talking about BAGS OF PRIVILDGE? Hey matt you at all feel like you were wrong about anything since 2020? how about this matt how about you stay out of scolding the church about who and how to vote , before you get on trumps charactershow about you show evryone your text messeges you sent to the lady at your church and maybe stop protecting Pedophiles at your church... I guess only mark dirscoll should be removed from a church huh ... only trump should be questioned about his salvation ... ur the mASTER of confusion and you are just as woke as your dear Friend DAVID PLATT ...
Awesome sermon. Thank you, Matt.
Amen
I enjoyed this sermon and I believe Pastor Matt delivered it respectfully and thoughtfully. I agree with all that was spoken, and he confirmed my political stance. I will continue to be present with each part of this series, and actually look forward to it! Thank you Pastor for tackling this extremely difficult subject and will pray for your subsequent sermons. Thank you!
I have absolutely no clue what your political stance is that he confirmed.
Who are you voting for?
Fire!!! Thank you Pastor Matt for this message. Amen!
We love you Pastor Matt from British Columbia, Canada. Goin thru some stuff please could you pray for Brandy & Chad were really going thru it. Bless all of the Village family.
This is an abuse of the office of a pastor and the Lord's day. You are supposed to bring the gospel not reason about the best way to think about elections.
Pastor Matt Chandler is one of Gods very best Leaders.
World War III dangling.
Fantastic message! Thank you!
That didn't strike me as woke. If you see the obvious comparison between abortion advocacy and ancient paganism, you're not woke.
@@RyanGlenn-e6pyou're really hung up on that one verse to command going to a Sunday service , aren't you? Grow up.
Yeah, Chandler is one of many of the megachurch pastors that get messages written for him by a service. They've been identified as having a left leaning bias and Chandler, Platt and JD Greer have mentioned it at times thinking there's no issue with it. Sad and makes me not take them seriously.
