While I like so much of this concept as a non-correlated investment and as a means to partake in some of the potential financial benefits that heretofore have only been limited to the super-elite, I came across a spreadsheet which appeared to show the significant impact that fees will have upon your bottom line returns. Someone had posted a link to it under a different Masterworks youtube video.

Masterworks is certainly an intriguing concept, but the younger generations are much less interested in crypt-bound creatives. What other endeavor in this world is appreciated through such a macabre lens, one which so strongly reinforces the false adage of nostalgic superiority?
I’ve come to realize that the cutting-edge defined by the truly inspired visual artist is in fact so far ahead, that their customers take decades to catch up.
What a wonderful opportunity Masterworks has to align (and reward) both creators and collectors by synchronizing this archaic time-lag between innovative and market adoption; an irrational inefficiency far from tolerated in any other marketplace.
Should Masterworks, or a competitor, fully embrace this clear arbitrage, they will be performing a public service to quality living artists, while enriching the marketplace offerings, and themselves.

It’s a strange phenomenon built partially on death’s particularly strong tendency to categorically limit future supply lines

If I talk about the pictures that the artists have drawn, I think it is a valuable asset and regardless of the price, there may be people who want to buy it and sometimes it reminds them of the meaning and purpose of the memory, but there are people who buy it regardless of the price.
