Hey, Ford Tech, I have a mystery problem with my 2013 F150 5.0 with VERY low rpm (it literally idled at 100 rpm today at red lights). It’s not the F27 fuse, it’s not the fuel relay #8 in power distribution box, it’s not the fuel pump driver module. It’s also not throwing any codes. It was rough starting but that has since stopped now that I’ve been using premium fuel and Lucas fuel treatment. Wade Ford in Smyrna, GA wants to do a “de-carb” on my engine in one week. I’m a bit skeptical of that. Do you have any suggestions? I’d be happy to share any photos/videos with you. Thanks!
Perfect, to the point, real time step by step. Just picked up an 06 f150 xlt, fixing small things like this just to make it that much more nicer. Much appreciated.
Thank you for your video. It took me 20 minutes to replace this on my Ford F150 5.4 Triton XL. That guy has been driving around for two years with a piece of foil keeping it closed. I just got to say I love it when he goes on vacation. Then I get to work fixing the truck all the little things that have been broken for far too long. From vacuum hoses to solenoid sensors the only thing I haven't been able to do is replace the sensor that tire dealership broke when they replace the tire.
Hello, I wished I came across your video first before tackling this project. Other videos were not quite as clear as yours about the removal and installation of this fuel door. BUT, yours is the best I've found! I literally tore the old unit out of the housing. I had plastic removal tools for trim, and just about destroyed two of the "prying" tools just getting under the lip. I eventually used a needle nose pliers to grab the tabs and break them off the broken unit. I didn't care, since it was going in the trash. After viewing your video all that I really needed was a couple of smaller slot screwdrivers to get the two plastic snaps disengaged from the frame. The real blessing here was your installation tips. I was thinking how the heck can I get this installed (sort of like a square plug in a round hole). But, after viewing your instructional video it went in pretty easily. You're right though, it is a very tight fit. Thank you for your assistance! It is most appreciated and I saved $$$$ from having to take it to the dealer. 😃
Me and my dad had the hardest time putting the new housing in. Our top clips just wouldn’t fit in flush. We got it as close we could and I’m going with it. It’s not hanging out but not perfect. About 97% flush based on your video. Much easier to take out than to get in😂
I'm no mechanic but I just stated earlier I do all the little repairs on my truck once my guy takes off and goes on vacation when I replace this part I had a bit of a time getting it that clerk also but then I took a little bit of WD-40 and ran around the rim slid right in clicked and it was done
Just did mine about 5 minutes ago. Easy to do for the most part. Getting the new one in was a bit tricky at one point, but with a bit work it went finally.
I work at an independent shop and whenever these old fords come in and I have a scanner hooked up I always check the mileage for fun and you’d be surprised how many of these fords have an inaccurate odometer, I have an 04 when I got it the odo said 167k, I hooked up the scanner it had 294k, just put a timing set in it she’s running great really quiet it came from Florida so no rust it’s still got the original exhaust
I recently purchased my 2nd 04 F-150 STX; F-150 #1. Is an 04 FX4, Being a new comer to the F-150's and issues with 17 yr old trucks, I've learned so much from your videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, tricks and tips, if it wasn't for you, I might've regretted my purchases 🤭
As an extra precaution, if you're DIY and nervous about it, you can put a couple layers of making tape around the hole to protect the paint... Great vid
Thank you, finally found one where the pivot is broken like mine rather than just the large spring came off the housing pin or the pivot pin lifted out of a slot. And you showed how to remove the door too. All I have to do now is order a new filler housing. Thanks again!
After watching, I changed mine in about 10 mins.and believed me, I'm as UN mechanical as they come. Thanks!! One note though. I have a flare side '04 f150. If you do too, be sure to order for the "flare side" not the standard build. Thanks Brian, enjoy your videos.
I just did this on my truck, but I bought it used and my fuel door was held on my some type of adhesive! Had to buy a new door and repaint it! Love the vids!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I really appreciate the detailed step-by-step video and the link to Amazon for the exact part! I initially took this to the Pep Boys near me. They said I needed to take it to a body shop. I'm guessing that you saved me at least a hundred dollars! By the way... For the folks (like me) who are not mechanically inclined... After watching this video TWICE, I completed the repair/replacement in about 15 minutes. Thanks again!!
FordTechMakuloco... you're a lifesaver! I just had this same issue happen on my wifes truck and thanks to you, this will be a piece of cake! Especially thankful that you linked the part in Amazon for this, it made the repair even easier not having to search for the part! Thank you!
Mine's been broke for 3 years or more. Now I'm going to get this fixed on my 2005 F150 with 312,000 miles on it. By the way Brian, i took your advice and changed the oil viscosity from 5W20 to 10W30. Man does it ride better, seems a little quieter, and I know it's happier truly being well lubricated. What would we do without your great advice? THUMBS UP!
Thanks so much for this video! I was going to pay a body shop to do this repair until I saw your video. When I saw how simple it was, I ordered the parts and did the repair myself.
This video was very professional. Thank you! I bought my truck new in November 2004, have 108,600 on it, love this truck. Gas door latch spring minor imperfection.
I have to send you a great thank you! The door of my 2004 FX4 broke about a month ago - i had no idea how easy it would be to fix until your video. Bought the part from a Ford dealer in NH thru Amazon for $27.40 - saved a bunch compared to my local Ford dealer in NJ. Just popped it in - 15 minutes time carefully following your video and all is good with the world. Thanks!!!
Damn, it's nice to watch you do it before I do it... Years ago, it was trial and error - figure it out and get it done. Today, I watch TH-cam and get past the trial and error.... and just get it done. It's a BFD and makes a diff, so thanks!
Aloha's Bruddah! It's been a while. All I can say is it's been a madhouse here. Major reno's throughout the whole house. The last thing on our list is to replace all the interior doors. They are from the 1980s .. so they are almost 40 years old. Bruddah, when are ya coming back to Hawaii? No need to spend hard-earned money on hotel space. We got two extra bedrooms. Plenty of room for the family. Y'all can use the truck while you're here. Btw, we ordered some of your Tee's and a sticker for my toolbox. Brah, my fuel door is in the same shape. Hey man, at least it closes... I'm guessing this procedure is the same for my 2k9 F150 (?). Give the family an Aloha's Hug from Uncle Rick and Aunty Soon.
Just a tip for those who cannot install their replacement no matter how big and strong you are. I got the exact matching replacement part from ebay for a 2004 F150 5.4, it was an exact match, I even measured it with a digital measuring device, yet it was impossible to snap the tabs back on! First bottoms then tops, I know! I thought this simple cheap thing should be the easiest thing ever to replace, NOPE! Tried for an hour, used all sorts of tools to help, filed down the tabs a bit, fingers hurt bad, no go. Finally loosened the gas filler neck at the wheel well that's held by the first clamp to push it back a bit for more room. That did the trick. The filler neck was so stiff it was not allowing any more room at all to install the part until I loosed it. I'm saying this because this was not said in this video, if it was I would've done it sooner! Live and learn, I thought I was stupid! Nope! There was simply no room to push it any further. They must've initially installed it differently at the factory to make it so tight to do in reverse, because I had 1/4" to go before the tabs would clip on until I loosened that filler neck.
I might need to try that, it was easy to take off but been struggling to put on. am not a mechanically inclined skilled person. There’s a reason I work management jobs.
I have a 2004 f150 4 door, Mine broke today, that small white part fell on the ground when I opened it. This diver is a huge help. I’ll get a new one and replace it. Thanks.
Thanks for the video you posted this yesterday"Friday" went this morning to my Ford dealer this morning Saturday 7/27/19 picked up the part. 15 minutes later fixed. Only thing I would add is be careful taking the lid off the assembly there is a catch to retain it to the hinge that is really small and will break. Thanks FordTechMakuloco love your videos. $42.34
On my '12 . .. the spring slipped off the rod. I incorporated a small screw & washer to the end of the rod for the fix. Many F-150 owners have run into the "slipped off spring" problem. Love your work, explanations, & videos. You are the "Go To Guy" for Fix Or Repair Daily😲(FORD)just kidding My '12 Raptor has been very reliable, though. A lead frame connector & reprogramming w/trans oil & filter change was FREE. And, I replaced the passenger blend door actuator ALL from the glove box. Quite a feat, seems impossible, & I do not recommend anyone try it.
Great instructional video as always! Try using Velcro instead if you don't want to spend time and money to fix this annoying issue only to possibly break again in the future. It's cheap and a quick solution unless that's not how you like to roll with things sometimes.
Mine broke on first fuel fill after purchasing the truck used. When I opened fuel door at the gas station, I heard a clip flying off. I fixed the door by sticking neodymium magnets until I got a replacement.
You’re not the first I’ve seen using those little magnets! Have had a customer or two using the same come through my emissions shop. Whatever works! Glad to know how to fix them now.
Watched the video twice. Rewound and played parts numerous times. It took me some large pliers to muscle it out. Then I spent an hour trying to put the new housing in. I don’t know how you do it because I’m watching the video and imitating your movements and it won’t go in. I gave up and will tackle it tomorrow.
Keep at it. It’s been a while since I did it, so I do t remember how I did it. I just remember once I got it turned just right, it went in and I thought that was easy. But it was after a lot of pushing and cussing. In fact, my truck got totaled in August 2022 and I got a broken arm out of the deal.
@@keithcarpenter3218 I finally got it done yesterday. Had to have some help with pulling the gas pipe down and pushing the part in. After I got it in, had trouble lining up the holes to put the screws back in. Got it done and I'm finally happy to have my gas cap cover fixed.
Appreciate this video. Clear and concise. Helped me visualize what needed to be done to fix my fuel filler door on my 2006 F150. It was a lot tougher to remove the insert than it was to install the new one. But still basically a piece of cake, just the plastic gets a bit brittle after 16 years...
Thank you for this video. I watched your video 2 times then changed the door. It took less than 15 minutes. Thanks so much. I'm glad I have subscribed to your channel.
Thanks for making this video. It provided lots of useful information, but for me the replacement was still an aboslute nightmare. One major factor was buying the replacement part from amazon. The part was a poor fit. After much sanding, I was able to get it to fit. However if I have to do this again, I will definitely buy the part directly from Ford. The cheap chinese junk is not worth the frustration.
Thanks. I feel like I'm going to be able to knock out this repair for my wife's truck and be a hero. I changed the power window motor assembly last year she was over the moon with that repair image how much of a star I will be when I fix a piece that is noticeable all the time. Thanks for the post. I will give you a like and comment. Also I will check out your other videos to see if I might subscribe. If I don't at least I know you are out there making very good walkthrough videos.
I needed to see this for a different reason. I have new fiberglass bedsides that I have to put on, and with the driver's side I needed to know how to get the filler neck loose so I could move the bed back just enough to access the spot welds on the front of the bed. May replace this while I'm at it since it is rusty and it's starting to be loose. Fuel door still closes tight, but can not hurt to put a new one on.
Easy, any 10 y/o with twenty years experience and three hands can do it. Still like your channel and the instructions. Without you, the paint would be scratched up, the plastic tube to the filler neck would be sideways and the door would open north and south, instead of left to right.
You have to be a psychic at this point. Something breaks and within a week or so you have a video. I am seriously flummoxed. WTF? Thanks for the help on these trucks. Mines been a PITA but I love it. Glutton for punishment I guess. lol
He put up a video last year about spark plug blowouts about a week or two before my new-to-me F-250 blew one out--I bought the tools he recommended, followed his guide, and fixed it myself in my driveway and I've put over 26k miles on it since without issue. My last blowout I paid a shop to do, 69 miles later I was at the side of the road trying to put the flames out and it cost me a NICE 2002 Mustang GT.
Good video. Helped me remove the old gzs coor assembly. Unfortunately, I broke the door cover when I tried to remove from assy. Now gotta go find and buy a door cover. Maybe try one oc the after market covers.
Thanks for the tips. Just so you know, glass cleaner is not what you want to use on paint, (strips any wax/sealant that may be present) use a quick detail spray or a diluted no-rinse wash like Optimum no rinse.
@4:18 Tech: “Trust me”. @4:18 Me: “I do”. I’ve been trusting you for years. You have never failed me. A few years ago, you said, “Do not use after market, use Motorcraft or you will have to replace it again in 6 months!”. (‘06 Escape oil sender) I did not listen. Six months later…yep, leaking again!!! Lesson learned. Then hurricane Ian destroyed the car! Thanks for everything Makuloco! 😁👍
I drove for two years with my fuel door flopping in the wind without a care. I trade the truck in and here this video pops up. I guess if I'd have applied some effort into I could have fixed it but eh.
I just put a Piece of Velcro, stays closed! Cost me $1.00 and 5 minutes! works great . A small Piece the size of a finger nail on door and inside right where they come together when closed .

The dealership recommended to pull the door off before removing the housing from the bed side.
Best walkthrough I’ve found. Huge difference seeing it done by someone with experience.
Mine just broke, how convenient. Thanks Brian, perfect timing.
Yeah he didn’t show the clips so his tutorial is why mine broke

Appreciate this video. Clear and concise. Helped me visualize what needed to be done to fix my fuel filler door on my 2006 F150. It was a lot tougher to remove the insert than it was to install the new one. But still basically a piece of cake, just the plastic gets a bit brittle after 16 years...
Too bad we couldn't have done ours together John. I found it came out pretty easy. Putting it back in was another story. PITA.
2009-2014 models suffer from a similar problem. Thanks
I just used the old plastic part leading to the filler tube on our out house door.
Thank you for this video. I watched your video 2 times then changed the door. It took less than 15 minutes. Thanks so much. I'm glad I have subscribed to your channel.
You probably just saved me atleast 100$ THANKS BOSS!
Take your time and it will fit! I almost gave up…. Great video
Just did mine while watching this video. Thanks for all your help!
Thank you. I fixed my door after watching this
You have to be a psychic at this point.
Once again Brian you are the man when it comes to the Ford F150. Mine just broke. Thanks for the info. Merry Christmas to you and the family from NC
Nice Job! I never replaced one, you make it look easy.
Bruh... wish I lived a lot closer to ya so you could do some serious work on my 04! Great channel keep the vids/knowledge coming👍👍
Awesome step-through video! Mine works perfectly again.
That freaked me out too Brian 😲😲😲😲😲 Nice job👍👍

At about 1:53 it looked like Dr. Zira from the Planet Of The Apes movies. (shows my age, I guess, not to think Goblins).

Great channel, man. Just did this on my 2005 watching you. Thank you. 👍🏼
Good video. Helped me remove the old gzs coor assembly. Unfortunately, I broke the door cover when I tried to remove from assy. Now gotta go find and buy a door cover. Maybe try one oc the after market covers.
This is a sick ass channel
Thanks for the tips. Just so you know, glass cleaner is not what you want to use on paint, (strips any wax/sealant that may be present) use a quick detail spray or a diluted no-rinse wash like Optimum no rinse.
Of course but I am looking at it from a shop perspective, no one really has Meguiars quick detailer on their bench.
Thank you . Been needing to do mine saved me a ton of money
Your the Man 👍🏻
@4:18 Tech: “Trust me”.
@4:18 Me: “I do”.
I’ve been trusting you for years.
You have never failed me.
A few years ago, you said, “Do not use after market, use Motorcraft or you will have to replace it again in 6 months!”.
(‘06 Escape oil sender)
I did not listen.
Six months later…yep, leaking again!!! Lesson learned.
Then hurricane Ian destroyed the car!
Thanks for everything Makuloco! 😁👍
THANK YOU ! WILL HAVE TO REMEMBER THAT ! BE SAFE ! ENJOYED !
Thanks so much for this video. Just fixed mine and it looks good! Followed each step and it worked perfectly. Appreciate it!
I drove for two years with my fuel door flopping in the wind without a care. I trade the truck in and here this video pops up.
I guess if I'd have applied some effort into I could have fixed it but eh.
Best walk through on this.
