One of my favorite songs for the last 40 years or so. So glad to See Marcus carrying on the tradition, and also re-inventing it too with his own style. Thanks 🙏🏻
Toy Cauldwell said he wanted this to be a Bob Wiltzie and the Texas Playboys type song. Marcus took it and made it almost a straight blues-type shuffle that just works to me. Stayed with Toys original idea but since he didn’t have a spare piccolo player. He did it with his guitar.
He's the perfect man to do a cover of in my own way. The greenville-spartanburg area should be proud, a local treasure shared with the country and the world
Wow, impressive. Has a flair of santa song of the wind with neal schon on guitar and the B3 accompaniment. The intro almost has a william devon “be thankful” sound also. As a whole the single best cover of marshal tucker / toy caldwell’s best song! Standing ovation.
@@BPags dude you gotta admit, its pretty fucking good. I love MTB and I'm the first son of a bitch to start singing desert skies, but this is a damn good jazzy ass cover
@@BPags I went and listened to the MTB version right after this. And...I'll take Marcus King, but I really enjoyed learning that this is a cover song. I enjoy both versions, but this one is cleaner and more jazz, the other is a little more bluegrass and oldschool. Thank you guys for the education on this song. Marcus brings that lick to life in this song, I walk around whistling it all day!
I’m not hating on it I think it’s awesome they covered it. They did a good job but they could try this one all day long and they won’t come close. We’ve all got opinions mine just differs from yours.
Have loved the Marshall Tucker Band ever since I first heard them back in the early 70's. Marcus and the band nailed this one. I think that it's better than the original.
Toy and Tommy would be absolutely honored to hear the respect Marcus gives with these covers! I just wonder why we never get to hear him play the intro which I assume Toy wrote? Ugh! It would almost be too perfect? Haha! Mush appreciated though!
Little known fact: Jammin' Joe Kane is playin' guitar on this one. OK. Not exactly true... but I've listened to this and the original about 19,876 times. Truth … And bein' a good Christian, I probably wouldn't sell my soul to play with this execution and soul, but I am FUCKING TEMPTED!
Anybody saying that the original is better is just pining for nostalgia. This version is miles better. Very few times is a cover better than the original- Storyville’s cover of A Change Is Gonna Come comes to mind- but this is definitely one of them.

Fuck yea 🤙🏼😎
As good a cover of as good a song as you're ever likely to hear. Toy would be proud.
What a smokin cover of This ole cowboy ! Wow !
Dennis green no doubt Marcus is on the guitar!
this is just f'n incredible .
Wow, Marcus. Just Wow! Thank you.

Didn’t think anyone should touch this song but MTB.. I’m glad these guys did!
Check out The Moonstone Riders live cover of this. Excellent!
Truly awesome
Love it 😍♥️ RIP Toy Cauldwell!! We miss ya!
I agree with some of the other people commenting. Toy would give a tip of his hat to this cover.
Beautiful playing!!
2024 listen here and hearing next album is with the whole band again!!! So excited.
how is this dude not more known by now?😢
Marshall and Marcus - sweet
thanks BTW
Not since Greg have we been blessed with such a stellar voice and his guitar out of this world...!
Markus can't sound bad bro!!
It's great that he slipped a reed instrument in there, that's a toast to the Marshall Tucker Band and their flute
Slick, Clean and NOT over-produced, PERFECT!
The Marshall Tucker original is my favorite version...and this is my other favorite version.
Wow, impressive. Has a flair of santa song of the wind with neal schon on guitar and the B3 accompaniment. The intro almost has a william devon “be thankful” sound also. As a whole the single best cover of marshal tucker / toy caldwell’s best song! Standing ovation.
Even if is a cover, and great cover, with this you are already in The Big Ligues little boy.
This cover absolutely slays. The instrumentation is euphoric. Well done to Marcus and the band!! I would love to see this live.
I saw them live in a small club with my whole family--one of the greatest shows I've ever seen.
Really nice. Marcus & Toy, think of that 😊
Really nice take on this. Yea

Man, they killed it! Very few covers are better than the original, but this comes close! That's coming from a huge Marshall Tucker fan!
Better than I could ever dream of playing... However it doesn't even come close. Coming from a huge MTB fan

So Good, So much feel from this new Blues Master ! Superb Voice and even better guitar chops ! Onwards and Upwards Marcus
Outstanding Marcus how cool it is to have a horn section and unbelievable band at age 22!
Have loved the Marshall Tucker Band ever since I first heard them back in the early 70's. Marcus and the band nailed this one. I think that it's better than the original.

You maybe right.

This Caldwell agrees!

Have you seen our latest session with The Marcus King Band? th-cam.com/play/PL2WI4mMDDI__XfT3HXNngOe8lybXpYF7b.html
Toy would be very proud
Did justice to what was already a great song and could have screwed up but they nailed it

Now cover Desert Skys and Tell it to the Devil.
Anybody saying that the original is better is just pining for nostalgia. This version is miles better. Very few times is a cover better than the original- Storyville’s cover of A Change Is Gonna Come comes to mind- but this is definitely one of them.
better than original?
This version is nothing like the original other than the lyrics. I prefer the original version by The Marshall Tucker Band.
Move over Marshall Tucker.
NOT better than the original, but a really GOOD cover, I must say.
Yeah I love MK and this is really good but the vox drums and bass are better plus the flute on the MT track
