I'll agree with scaling down (but not stopping) when you take a lot of losses. For example, I had a few choppy months and instead of taking 2% losses, that gave me an opportunity to adjust a few things I was doing wrong and start trading at 1% risk, making sure things were back on track, and then consider scaling back up.
My max draw down this year as a new trader is 9% on a 1150 euro live testing account on 0.01 lots since late last year. It took immense patience and care to get through all the nuances of trading (again) and live testing loose ends and meta analysis (like which signals to prioritize). Yeah I lost my shit and got excited and got crushed at first but I just knew I had to affirm self control. I had to keep following the algo and experiment. So that's what I did. Made consistent wins, added more money and moved to 0.02 lots. Despite carefully considering recent rough $EVZ data. I definitely thank my estrogen. I hope I can submit my testimony next year.
Every time you guys mention "Tilt" as a poker phenomena I think of Phil Helmuth.
Now don't get me wrong Helmuth is an amazing player - but he's got to be since he has to overcome the hurdle of his emotional reactions and how he lets his ego get in the way of his playing in some amazing blowups.
I suppose this isn't directly related to the topic at hand. Women are emotional as well but it tends to be about other things (we're not supposed to say "women are emotional" but everybody is emotional and it can lead to pitfalls in life as well as the wonderful aspects of life). Anyhow those sorts of issues tend to be unrelated to trading while men's emotional responses tend to be of the sort that hamper their trading. Or poker-playing. No matter how skilled one is as a trader or a poker player. Few people have had as much success as Helmuth but few people have had such spectacular public implosions either.
Whenever somebody is in tilt, that means emotions are high, and decision making is in the toilet. Lesson there.
Unless you're Phil Hellmuth, then you can still pull victory out of your ass sometimes.
