- Once a year, in a small corner of southern England, the car park of the Greyhound Pub in Tinsley Green hosts the Marbles World Championship. The first organised tournament was held here back in 1932, but Tinsley Green's relationship with the game goes back to 1588. Legend has it that two local lads played for the hand of a fair maiden. The aim is to knock as many of the 49 red target marbles as possible out of the ring using a shooting marble, or "tolley", which is held between forefinger and thumb. To guarantee the hand does not move while shooting, the player's knuckle must be grounded, which gave rise to the phrase "to knuckle down".

Man... I remember back when I was around 8-9 years old 2012-2013? Me and all my friends in the neighborhood would collect all kinds of marbles and battle with each other for keeps unless they only had 1 left... the rules were 3 hits in a row you win. If you miss the hits get reset. If two marbles got stuck together then you would stack them on top of each other then drop them causing them both to fly separate from each other. We even named our marbles and even get attached to them XD we had clowns ( white with 3 primary colored stripes) cat eyes ( average clear marble with paint inside) ghosts (clear glass marble) dragons (green with crazy other random colors added) bumblebees (bee colored) peewees (tiny marbles) steelheads (ball brings ) and boulders ( large marbles) man I remember having a boulder bumblebee onetime was my favorite until I lost him to my friend who uses a peewee ghost :( fun game fun days

I played a lot of marbles in the 90s growing up the clear ones with paint in middle we called them budgets stealies( ball bearings)
Colored ones with painted dots (galaxies)
Pee wee marbles we had those and other sizes. Also had those half flat ones we called them Chinese marbles different marbles had different marbles and we played for keeps. I've still got my collection.

I just bought a bin of 160 marbles with 5 shooters on a whim at some discount store. Now i want to actually play the game, but no one i know has even heard of playing. I even ordered some fancy shooters online 😎
Just held an 80th birthday party for my father in law. Each child (my hubby and his siblings) had to come up with a game. One of the games was a marbles tournament. Wow! Everyone is still playing marbles even after the party, old and young. A simple game yet so much fun!

We never played anything like this, we just picked a hole in the garden or street and took it in turns to get marbles into the hole and the one that got all theirs in first wins.
I haven't played with marbles since I was a child. I need to hunt down my collection and attempt to play.

We used to play this in my childhood. I am in the Philippines and we have a different gameplay.

How I learned how to play you would make a hole have a starting point and who ever would get to the hole first would go after the other player and if you hit their marble it’s yours!

Damm.. Idk this game exists in other countries and even have championship. But they lack of skill. In my country even kid way much better than them. They can shot 1 single marble from 3m long. But still i love this game get popular
